What other films like this would I like?
All suggestions welcome.

The Volcano
Birdbox
War of the worlds
World War z

Also highly recommend a thriller The fugitive with Harrison Ford. I watch it once a month

PopsicleHustler · 06/03/2023 14:33

Sorry, its just Volcano, not The Volcano with Tommy Lee Jones. Ace film.

BeetleyCarapace · 06/03/2023 14:35

White House Down might be worth a look. (Same director as The Day After Tomorrow.) Also Channing Tatum in a vest.

FooFighter99 · 06/03/2023 14:35

I LOVE The Day After Tomorrow and have seen it so many times, its one of my favourite films

You might also like Cloverfield, and San Andreas Smile

Bonjovispjs · 06/03/2023 13:26

War of the worlds. The one with Tom Cruise, not the original.

Tom Fountain of Youth Discoverer 🥳

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 06/03/2023 14:55

For the big budget disaster film, PPs have got you covered - if it's "grand collapse of society", I see someone mentioned Volcano, so give director Mick Jackson's (in)famous Threads a watch (everyone should see this at least once, it's a masterpiece. Also Miracle Mile, Outbreak, the End Day series, and Songbird.

cassiatwenty · 06/03/2023 14:57

28 Days and 28 Days Later, also a bit of an oopsie element to them.

Watching this film will instill a greater appreciation for sprinting or running

bumblefeline · 06/03/2023 15:01

I am legend.

The Rain on netflix.

BasiliskStare · 06/03/2023 15:03

@Diorinthecountry This film will never win an Oscar but DS & watched it and it was very entertaining en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flood_(2007_film). & I do like Robert Carlyle - I thought of it as The day after tomorrow - lite :) - worth a watch if you can find it

That's weird, I've just thos second put that on

Also Bird box and a quiet place if you haven't already seen them

Diorinthecountry · 06/03/2023 17:13

Fab suggestions. Thanks everyone, I will work my way through them Grin
By the end of the list, I will be prepared for any eventually 🤪🤣

BasiliskStare · 06/03/2023 17:19

Well if you get any good ones DS & I rather like a disaster film so do post which are good.

Not a disaster film because it works out OK ( not a spoiler I think everyone knows it ) But Apollo 13 is one of my favourite films - avoided disaster film perhaps 😁

Dudum · 06/03/2023 17:21

Deepwater Horizon
Fall (new on Netflix)
Touching the Void
Everest
Crawl

BasiliskStare · 06/03/2023 17:30

Oh Oh - if you have ( I think Netflix ) try Falling Skies - it is a series rather than a film but you can binge watch it - Aliens invade earth and dreadful but utterly watchable but very much in the disaster genre - it has Noah Wyle & other good actors in it.

WinterMusings · 06/03/2023 17:35

Aquamarine1029 · 06/03/2023 01:28

The Core. It's great 😊

@Aquamarine1029

Well, it had to happen eventually!

I agree with you!

@Diorinthecountry

I love disaster movies 😂😂

let's just agree now though, that they're shit film quality, dated & poor acting, tgat said...

Both the San Andreas ones are good

im crap at remembering titles, sorry! But as others have said, searching flood/earthquake/disaster type things will find you plenty! Then the ones you enjoy, note the main actors names and search them...

Although a slightly different genre I thoroughly enjoyed FALL on Netflix the other night!

(again shit quality technically & 'oh yeah, that's highly likely 🙄🤣' but none the less, really enjoyed it!)

PuppyMonkey · 06/03/2023 17:39

Armageddon is the greatest film ever made OP, you’re in for a proper treat.Grin

inigomontoyahwillcox · 06/03/2023 17:43

Absolutely love disaster movies, have pretty much gone through the whole genre. 2012 is epic and DD's and my favourite. You could always go old school and watch the OGs of the genre such as The Towering Inferno or The Poseidon Adventure!

toooldforgymnastics · 06/03/2023 17:49

How has no one mentioned Geostorm! Fantastic addition to the disaster movie genre

MrsCarson · 06/03/2023 18:11

I just finished Fall on Netflix. Really enjoyed Day after tomorrow.
I liked.
Good Omens
World war z
Contagion
2012
I'm watching The Santa Clarita diet on Netflix for something a bit lighter and funny.

MrsCarson · 06/03/2023 18:12

Also have a look for The day the earth stood still

CalistoNoSolo · 06/03/2023 18:48

Independence Day. Surely the best feel good makes you proud to be an American movie ever made. Also try Inception, Minority Report and Edge of Tomorrow.

Diorinthecountry · 06/03/2023 18:54

We watched the fall the other night and enjoyed it. Inception we watched years ago and still don't have a clue what happened.

Another one for Flood on Amazon. A two part mini series when the Thames gets overtaken by a giant north sea storm. It's not a technicolour end of the world by flippin' good all the same.

@Diorinthecountry Have you tried Tenet by the same director - now that was a mindbender!

cassiatwenty · 06/03/2023 23:02

I see someone mentioned Tenent and I just recalled Sharknado II

cassiatwenty · 06/03/2023 23:04

All I'm saying is better safe than sorry
