Do your bedroom curtains match your bedding?

Try not to get too excited over this topic of conversation!

Do you have matching bedding and curtains? Or do they at least compliment each other? Do lots of people have curtains that just clash with their bedding?

We have 3 different sets of bedding one of them definitely doesn’t go with the curtains, it bugs me every time it’s on the bed (which is all winter because it’s our cosy brushed cotton bedding)

No curtains here. We have plain ivory coloured Roman blinds and they go with any bedding or paint or wallpaper we might choose in the future.

SpaceJamtart · 01/03/2023 20:44

No, it would probably look nice if they did but the curtains were left from whoever lived here before and they favoured hideous clashing patterns- they left lime green and orange striped curtains in the bedrooms that coordinated awfully with the teal and brown walls. We painted over all the walls but have yet to replace the curtains as they are blackout ones so are quite good- even if they are ugly.

Bedsheets are blue and white stripes, they came with me from the last house - so they dont go but they do make it look like we love stripes

AllTangledUpInThisTango · 01/03/2023 20:50

@SpaceJamtart oh that sounds quite horrific...you could buy cheap curtains in a pattern you like and have them sewn to the front. Otherwise IKEAs blackout curtains are very good, look nice and are cheap!

Nah. White bedding, green floral vintage curtains. Quite fancy a Welsh blanket on the bed that picks up one of the green or pink tones in the curtains – so not matching, but in the same zone.

cocksstrideintheevening · 01/03/2023 20:51

God no, not since 1990 and I had Laura Ashley wallpaper, bedding and curtains, sweet pea. Awful.

MyriadOfTravels · 01/03/2023 20:51

No I don’t and tbh I didn’t even think about it.
Curtains match the walls and the carpet here. Not the bed sheets.

And I wanted them to be coordinated somehow, I’d buy the bedsheets to match the curtains (not the other way around)

Spectre8 · 01/03/2023 20:52

No I have all white bedding and grey curtains.

Littleflowerseverywhere · 01/03/2023 20:53

God no, how tacky, but they do compliment, in as much as bedding is white and blinds are dark wood. It’s so eighties to match.,you may as well add a wallpaper border and don a ra ra skirt 😃

AnnieMore · 01/03/2023 20:56

No. I have an aversion to curtains & would certainly not match them to bedding. It’s not 1980.

We have blinds on our bedroom windows but in our room, we have long white curtains that are for dressing only, ie they don’t draw - the windows looked a bit unfinished before I did this.

FuckNuggets · 01/03/2023 20:59

Blimey! Even my bedding doesn't match my bedding!

RedRiverShore3 · 01/03/2023 21:01

Laura Ashley used to be the epitome of matchyness.

PetitPorpoise · 01/03/2023 17:53

No, our bedroom is the very last of our decorating priorities. The curtains are ones I bought for my first rented house in 2011 and the bedding is nothing like it and the carpet is red Envy.

@PetitPorpoise

the bedroom is the last of your decirating priorities...the carpet is red.

The rest must be an absolute riot!!

I hope you have the time, energy & money to get it all done soon.

daisypond · 01/03/2023 21:05

Bedding is plain white, so goes with anything. Blanket on bed picks up the curtain colour. Curtains are a self-colour, but not white. It looks nice.

GuyFawkesDay · 01/03/2023 21:05

Well.....sort of. I have one set of "matching" (again bought in a fit of sale based madness and desire to not feel like our bedroom is the most neglected space in the house, including the shed).

But I turn it over so the "matchy matchy" patter is under the duvet. And the curtains are mainly white so most of the bedding is just plain white. And then there's the bright set which clashes totally but I love so sod it.

WinterMusings · 01/03/2023 21:06

@Tacocatgoatcheesepizza

Not in that 80's way. But walls are mostly white, bedding is mostly white. No window dressings currently, not sure what colour they'll be, but they won't be a matching curtain/bedspread combi!!

Ginmonkeyagain · 01/03/2023 21:08

No, because I am not a lunatic.

Although I have just remembered our winter bedspread (a heavy Indian cotton throw that goes over our duvet at the end of the bed) is navy as are the curtains.

gogohmm · 01/03/2023 21:10

Sort of, well one lot does, the other coordinates. Had curtains first

MrsElf · 01/03/2023 21:13

Ours go together but no matching items. So pale pink walls, green curtains, cream painted furniture and lamp. Bedding usually patterns that pick up 2 or more of those colours. Or my new and favourite pink seersucker crinkle that matches the walls (I thought it was quite a bit darker but, no) where hopefully the texture stops it looking bland.
Spare room is DH’s (pre-me) epic decorating accomplishment that is still too good and frankly too much effort to change, complete with aforesaid wallpaper border two tone walls. Lower wall colour matches curtains, and both colours in the sheet sets (yep, he bought two sets) are from the walls.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 01/03/2023 21:17

No. I've got 5 different sets of bed linen for my bed and the curtains don't match any of them.

Brokendaughter · 01/03/2023 21:19

I have a cushion that lives on the armchair in my bedroom which matches the curtains, but nothing else does.

Most of my bedding is white & looks fine with the curtains, but the other bedsets go nicely enough.

The walls, ceiling & floor are white too, so it looks intentionally put together whichever cover is on the bed, but not matching.

neighboursmustliveon · 01/03/2023 21:20

Yes ours match. But then we bought a complimentary set of bedding from same range, similar colours but different patter to have as a second set as washing and drying the same day is difficult over winter.

user922218 · 01/03/2023 21:28

No as Roman blind is black and bedding sets are all white. I do have black cushions, black and white cushions and throws though. I very oddly only sleep on white bed linen.

Snoken · 01/03/2023 21:32

My bedspread is a different shade of the colour of the curtain, my sheets are all linen but both in a muted green and beige which isn’t the colour of the curtains but belongs in the same natural colour family. No bright colours or patterns.

echt · 01/03/2023 21:34

I have Indian crewel work curtains, so all bedlinen is plain colours. I favour rich colours. Nothing matches now I think of it.

I don't like symmetry either.

Bookist · 01/03/2023 21:34

No. Curtains are a muted pink and cream floral pattern. Duvet is a pale pink ticking stripe. Pillowcases are a cranberry sprig pattern. Lampshades are a plain pink velvet and we have a big brass bedstead. Walls painted in a very soft sage green. So all very tonal rather than matching. Our house is very old so it lends itself to a cosy and slightly cluttered Victoriana vibe.
