Do your bedroom curtains match your bedding?

Try not to get too excited over this topic of conversation!

Do you have matching bedding and curtains? Or do they at least compliment each other? Do lots of people have curtains that just clash with their bedding?

We have 3 different sets of bedding one of them definitely doesn’t go with the curtains, it bugs me every time it’s on the bed (which is all winter because it’s our cosy brushed cotton bedding)

matching things give me irrational rage.

Makes me feel institutionalised and claustrophobic.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 01/03/2023 19:29

They don't match, but they're in the same colour palette. Actually, now you mention it, one set doesn't really go but I've never really noticed! I will now! If it bothers you. OP, get a new duvet cover. I bought a pure cotton set from Primark recently and it's great and wasn't expensive, of course.

Mine match the cupboard doors on the TV cupboard, they don't match the bedding,

No but years ago my bedroom and the children's bedrooms were all matchy matchy Laura Ashley. The children had the full works, door stop , bunting , throws, rugs and lampshades. I had Laura Ashley lights , furniture and paint, thinking back I was obsessed

Matching bedding and curtains looks so crap

seratoninmoonbeams · 01/03/2023 19:56

Neutral blinds in my bedroom. Well. Everything neutral and then lots of random colour bedding.

Loafbeginsat60 · 01/03/2023 20:00

Well my curtains are light grey velvet and so most of the bedding has a grey/white base so it goes. Headboard is grey too.

I don't like lots of patterns

RedRiverShore3 · 01/03/2023 20:00

If they match you must have to have the same bedding for years and quickly wash it or buy two the same, I think I would get fed up with it.

AdoraBell · 01/03/2023 20:02

Not matching, floral bedding and plain blinds.

Giggorata · 01/03/2023 20:16

Not matching but toning and complementing. I have dark green plain velvet curtains and bedding which is mostly green, with different patterns.
It's all a bit old now, so I'm replacing with plain black velvet curtains and black and cream bedding, perhaps with other colours in the patterns.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 01/03/2023 20:17

The best thing to do is use a spare sheet as a bedroom curtain
.
(It worked at the squat and most people were impressed with the thoughtful co-ordination.)

Ethelfromnumber73 · 01/03/2023 20:18

No since Pierot in the 80s

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 01/03/2023 20:19

No but… my curtains are floor length bottle green velvet and I have a moss green velvet throw on my bed. Rest of bedding is shades of pink (everything from ‘millennium pink’ to shocking) and cream, with soft pink and cream walls. All bedding can be mixed and matched (but always matching pillowcases). Lots of different textures but no patterns on anything, ever. Huge wicker lampshade. Mahogany bed.

AlwaysLatte · 01/03/2023 20:19

No, I've never done that. Very neutral curtains so any bedding goes with them.

gorillalala · 01/03/2023 20:22

Nope, I've never even paid attention to whether they match or clash or what. In none of the bedrooms. And unlike other posters my curtains aren't even neutral haha.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 01/03/2023 20:25

No, all bedding in white/neutral & pretty plain. Curtains match room decor.

IMO matching curtains & bedding is pretty dated

RedRiverShore3 · 01/03/2023 20:31

I'm not that keen on matching as it can be a bit restricting if you see something you like and it's the wrong colour

dudsville · 01/03/2023 20:31

This was a big topic for me for years! I naively chose curtains i loved. Then realised how it limited my bedding options. I lived with that for years and grew to hate the curtains. Last year I bought new curtains in a neutral, bought the bedding i really wanted - 3 sets that do not match each other, but go well with the curtains, I'm ridiculously pleased with the decision.

Paturday · 01/03/2023 20:32

Wow. Wouldn’t even occur to me.

My sheets vary so much anyway - bright yellow floral, grey with tufted polka dots, white stripes on white, red winter scene print.

purpledalmation · 01/03/2023 20:32

Lord no. So 90s.

dudsville · 01/03/2023 20:33

Ps, i just looked around my bedroom, we did it last year, repainted and refurnished. The walls, curtains, side tables, lamps and ceiling lights all have a presence but "go" with the various bedding.

Paturday · 01/03/2023 20:34

Also I’ve just done the curtains in the kids rooms - DD black patterned curtains and sheets are either strawberry print or orange (fruit) print with teal leaves.

DSs have beige and black curtains and one son has crazy colourful abstract sheets and the other has navy and red stripes (bunk beds)

ILoveADoubleEntendre · 01/03/2023 20:38

I definitely aim for ‘coordination’ to a certain extent, of everything in the room - curtains, bedding, wall paint, furniture - but definitely not actually matching, that’s a bit Spider-Man duvet set territory IMO.
