What’s your gut reaction to a 38 year old being pregnant?

Do you consider 38 old to be having a baby? Just interested in how people honestly feel hearing it as obviously most people would be polite in person but I’m not sure if secretly they’d think it was quite old to be having a baby?

probably overthinking but hey…

I wouldn’t think anything of it whatsoever. It’s totally normal. Unless they were very close to me I wouldn’t care if they were pregnant or not.

tweetypi · 01/03/2023 09:26

I wouldn't think much of it. It's upper end of average in my friendship group but completely normal.

AnneLovesGilbert · 01/03/2023 09:27

Happy. As long as they want to be pregnant. Why?

As a woman who had a baby at 38, I’d consider it just completely normal tbh

Temporaryanonymity · 01/03/2023 09:27

Most of my NCT group were around that age. I think it’s a perfectly normal age to have a baby. I wouldn’t think anything of it.

maddy68 · 01/03/2023 09:28

Why would anyone think anything other than congratulations?

Lamelie · 01/03/2023 09:28

Excited for her. I know more women who had babies in their 40s than 20!

Sunnyshoeshine · 01/03/2023 09:28

The majority of my NCT group (London) were around this age and I'll likely be 38 if baby #2 is born (hopefully) so I'd say it's quite normal in London. Obviously not sure about other parts of the country.

MrsJessePinkmann · 01/03/2023 09:29

I wouldn't think anything. I had my DC2 10 months ago and I was 39.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 01/03/2023 09:29

I wouldn't give it a second thought.

FatGirlSwim · 01/03/2023 09:30

Wouldn’t give it a second thought or even consider it unusual

This

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/03/2023 09:30

Unsurprised.

Imogensmumma · 01/03/2023 09:30

I would think congratulations!!

I am currently nap-trapped under my DD 5 months who I had at 39

MonkeyPuddle · 01/03/2023 09:31

I would think congratulatory thoughts and be a bit jealous as I want to be pregnant again.

Pegfriedrice · 01/03/2023 09:31

my sister made a comment to me that I was getting ‘too old’ to give my child a sibling and that surely I was ‘done’ - I’m 36 and would likely be 38 if I were to have another. I just wondered if what she said was what most people actually thought - ie it’s old to have a baby, as I don’t think like that but realise I might be in the minority.

EllieQ · 01/03/2023 09:31

Normal to me. I had my first child at 38, and a lot of people I know had children mid-late 30s.

Screwedupworld · 01/03/2023 09:31

Congratulations would be my literal first thought.. totally wouldn’t be fazed at all.

Enko · 01/03/2023 09:32

38 =pretty normal to me. 45+ I may feel surprised but not judging

Haha yes! I'm 37 and currently nap trapped under my 3 month old ;) Brew

lurchermummy · 01/03/2023 09:32

Literally nothing except to be happy for her

maddy68 · 01/03/2023 09:28

Why would anyone think anything other than congratulations?

Exactly!
As long as the woman was happy about it I would say: 'Congratulations'.
(if not, I'd ask if I could support whilst she does what she needs to for her)

I had my 2nd child at 39. She was much wanted.

Pegfriedrice · 01/03/2023 09:33

She said it to me with a tone of almost disgust at the thought of someone my age having more children which made me feel a bit shit!

OP posts:
7Worfs · 01/03/2023 09:33

I had my second at 38, same as one of my friends. Another friend is having her first at 39, she left it quite late to start trying and it took her a while.
No judgement here, though I worry about close friends who leave it so late, and feel happy when they do get pregnant.

Holly60 · 01/03/2023 09:33

Totally normal in my adult DD's circle. I'd be surprised (but still not judgemental) around the 43-45 mark.

You never know a person's story so why judge someone for a decision which doesn't affect you in any way.
