In praise of the bed jacket

In recent times (keeping the heating down ‘cos COL crisis) I have been wearing a woolly cardigan to sit up in bed whilst reading, watching tv or MN’ing

It’s great. Less bulky than a dressing gown. Better than an Oodie because I can just unwrap rather than pull over my head and spoil my curlers when I am ready to snuggle down. Can just chuck on the floor until the morning.

Them old ladies did things right. I am thinking of sourcing a Teasmade.

Anyone else use a bed jacket ?

It was my (non sexual) pleasure 🥰

@BorgQueen you don't need an ikettle. I have my kettle plugged into a smart plug and the first thing I do each morning is tell Alexa to turn the kettle on!

I don’t read in bed. I wear my dressing gown in the evenings, and have a fleece blanket under the duvet. DH never gets cold and if the bedroom isn’t Baltic he can’t sleep Hmm

@Jellylover
That truely is the bed coat of my dreams, just perfect

I alternate between a shawl, a poncho thing and a cardigan, depending how hot flushy I am

Daft question, how do I get round the fact that my alexa can't depress the kettle switch?

ProjectsGalore · 28/02/2023 23:09

@OhYouBadBadKitten you depress the kettle button yourself but turn the smart plug off (leaving it switched on at the wall) you can either turn the smart plug on via the app on your phone or by asking Alexa to do it for you (if you have added the smart plug to Alexa as a device)

This is the one for me 😂, sadly discontinued and doesn’t look that warm, but stylish at least.

Oooh.... I like.

I doubt I will look as beautiful as the model does wearing it though.

I love nice gentle threads like this. Thanks@AnyFucker

Now looking forward to some nicely targeted ads…

I had a fleece blazer thingy from Lands End that I turned into a bed jacket. It got too hot when I hit the menopause. More natural fibre options would be great. I need to crochet myself a shawl.

OneHundredPercentCompostable · 01/03/2023 07:52

That’s what I thought @isthismylifenow. Wouldn’t look the same over my long sleeved t shirt nightie 😂.

I looked loads when I first had the idea last year but stuck to my old cardigans and bought long sleeved nighties instead.

A cotton, warm fleece lined cropped sweatshirt style with roomy raglan sleeves and a 3” knitted cuff would be ace. #bringingthebedjacketto2023.

I have a ratty tatty cardigan from M&S (cashmillon) that I wear in bed. Very cosy.

Also agree with bedsocks, electric blanket and hot water bottles as essential bedroom items.

There is nowt sexy about my bedtime attire. Give me a month and I'll be wearing curlers and a thick layer of Ponds cold cream.

BorgQueen · 01/03/2023 10:01

I’ve tried a smart plug with timer but I never remember to flick my kettle switch on at bed time 🙄
I’m sat with my heat pad right now, my lungs are so sore from coughing but I keep testing negative for covid despite spending hours with SiL last Thursday and she tested positive on Sunday. Probably just bronchitis but I feel so weak and drained 😷

Deathraystare · 03/03/2023 16:39

I am now the proud owner of a lilac bed jacket! Have not worn it yet but probably will tonight!! Got it from Amazon (Slenderella or something).

isthewashingdryyet · 03/03/2023 18:41

I took up knitting again after a long break to make a shawl to wear in bed. It was chilly, and a toasty alpaca shawl sorted that out.
I now have several (ie an overflowing box ) to choose from. And some of the lacy beaded shawls are part of my posh going out clothes.
