In praise of the bed jacket

In recent times (keeping the heating down ‘cos COL crisis) I have been wearing a woolly cardigan to sit up in bed whilst reading, watching tv or MN’ing

It’s great. Less bulky than a dressing gown. Better than an Oodie because I can just unwrap rather than pull over my head and spoil my curlers when I am ready to snuggle down. Can just chuck on the floor until the morning.

Them old ladies did things right. I am thinking of sourcing a Teasmade.

Anyone else use a bed jacket ?

I love how the advert algorithm gets influenced by clicking on bed jackets

What a wholesome thread

No rimming and dildos on here 😋

I didn't realise I had one but it appears reading this thread that my lovely warm fluffy cardi that I only wear to bed and just fling on the floor until the next evening is a bed jacket. So yes I think they have their place!

Lolacat1234 · 28/02/2023 18:53

And I remember my mum now in her 70s had a teasmade, reminds me of my childhood coming in to my mum and dad in the morning and getting in bed with them for a cup of tea ❤️ she did used to put the milk in first though which didn't bother me then but I couldn't live with that now! 😂

Reading this thread reminds me that I need another cardi for reading in bed as I only have the one, and that's pretty old. (In this cold weather I wrap it round the hotwater bottle that goes in an hour before bedtime).

Ooooh, an excuse for shopping!

I have bed cardigans and going out ones, I love them

Well the going out ones means I go out so not like those ones as much 😁

I also have bed cardigans and going out ones, the bed ones are the ones with holes!!
My going out ones will gradually morph into bed ones.
I also swear by bed socks!

Admire your spirit girlwiththecurl -bet you look fab.And cashmere is so light and so instantly warm ! ..

I'm team fleece jacket -the Uniqlo one is perfect .Full length sleeves with what looks like a slightly elasticated "cuff" so that they won't ride up .Perfect body length and nice cosy raised collar ....
can i resist getting one .?

Thank you so much @amberedover , I do try!

I also wear large dangly earrings and pretend I am a very posh invalid to cheer myself up!
Star

You also need a little tickly hand bell to ring for cups of tea and other assistance, (even if there is only you to answer it).

Yes, my adult sons bought me a bell and are very good at appearing with tea and treats. Probably why I am now so fat!

heatdeath · 28/02/2023 20:36

I have a bed-cardi! It wasn't originally intended as such - overpriced from Zara & the most unflattering garment I own - but is incredibly warm & frilly & I love it ... makes me happy every evening when I sling it on over my PJs :D

I bought my daughter one a few years ago. It's like a crocheted cape. I'd like the fleece one for reading. I do have a shawl somewhere but the jackets look practical.

Jellylover · 28/02/2023 20:43

I bought a gorgeous bed jacket from John Lewis a few years ago. It’s ivory, fleecy, has a small shawl collar and is the perfect length. Coffee stains and biscuit crumbs wash out like a dream and I tell myself it’s quite attractive 😀 I dread the day it wears out! No idea why they aren’t sold any more.

I actually thought this was this was a zombie thread for a bit.

bamboonights · 28/02/2023 20:50

Love this thread. Surely a modern take could be a back-to-front fleece cardy at just the right length?

Hedjwitch · 28/02/2023 20:51

I wear fingerless wrist warmers from Turtle Doves. Bloody brilliant.

Wolfiefan · 28/02/2023 20:56

Turtle doves are lush. I have a wrap that’s a great warmer in bed too.

BorgQueen · 28/02/2023 20:59

I have a really shaggy soft fleece poncho that has pockets at the front for sitting on the sofa, I find I don’t even need to wear it, just use it around my neck/shoulders as a wrap.
DH bought me an extra large heat pad for Xmas and it’s brilliant, I don’t need the heating on during the day, I just have the heat pad on low and tucked under my bum and up my back, it works wonders for random aches and pains too.
For sitting in bed drinking tea I have an ancient flannel pyjama jacket and a soft angora type shawl. I have a short thick robe next to the bed for middle of the night loo visits and I also put the bathmat down because the tiled floor is freezing, I can’t sleep in anything and DH is like a radiator.
I covet an ikettle but I’m not paying £100 just to be able to switch it on from bed, they haven’t come down in price at all and they’ve been out for years.

WonderingWanda · 28/02/2023 20:59

They are a great idea, my Mum got me one when I was bf my first baby.

OldTinHat · 28/02/2023 08:26

I sit in bed with my dressing gown on back to front so it's like a blanket and my arms are in the sleeves 😆

I am going to do this tonight

Atethehalloweenchocs · 28/02/2023 21:21

My sister, who is an incredibly talented knitter, made my mother a thing like a long scarf with ribbed cuffs at each end so she could wear it in bed. Mum loved it. I would freakin love a teasmade!

Me too @OldTinHat - like a fluffy surgeon Grin

mumda · 28/02/2023 21:37

I looked at what bed jackets were for sale and decided I'd just pull the fleecy top throw up around my shoulders.

FelicityBeedle · 28/02/2023 21:38

I can’t help but think Sybil’s bed jacket is all fur coat and no knickers. No proper sleeves and no quilting in sight!

Libre2 · 28/02/2023 21:47

I have been on MN since my youngest was an atrocious sleeper - she turns 13 this year and I honestly think this is my all time favourite thread. I was beginning to despair with all the bitching and horribleness and random sex-toy ads and you ladies, well, you have restored my faith. Not that I will buying a bed jacket as I lie on one side under the covers completely to read but the thought of one warms the cockles of my heart. Thank you @AnyFucker.
