In praise of the bed jacket

In recent times (keeping the heating down ‘cos COL crisis) I have been wearing a woolly cardigan to sit up in bed whilst reading, watching tv or MN’ing

It’s great. Less bulky than a dressing gown. Better than an Oodie because I can just unwrap rather than pull over my head and spoil my curlers when I am ready to snuggle down. Can just chuck on the floor until the morning.

Them old ladies did things right. I am thinking of sourcing a Teasmade.

Anyone else use a bed jacket ?

I am wearing a zip up fleecy jacket from Uniqlo. Very cosy.

This looks fabulous

I bought my Mum that one (and a Kindle stand) for reading in bed. It is lovely and soft. However she is 81!

OldTinHat · 28/02/2023 08:26

I sit in bed with my dressing gown on back to front so it's like a blanket and my arms are in the sleeves 😆

We used to buy them from charity shops and wear them with jeans and T shirts (70s) Grin

@marriednotdead .

If you had suggested I get one a few years back I would have laughed . It normally has to be very in or out for me to dress up warm. But now I feel it

I don't like to wear layers in bed and nothing buttoned up. I went to the ample bosom link and saw rhe perfect thing but only one size left. Crafty Mumsletters got there before me!!

Deathraystare · 28/02/2023 10:43

Just looked on Argis site for a teasmade. Only one make and £60±.

Deathraystare · 28/02/2023 11:19

Hurrah! Found the bed jackets sold on Ample Bosom but on Amazon!! Treated myself to a lilac one and a mint one.

purpledalmation · 28/02/2023 11:22

I wear DSs Oodie as I am quite slim and small, and it makes a lovely short warm jacket. My oodie does swamp me so pinching his works. He wears mine as he like to be semi naked so sits on his tablet in mine.

prampushingdownthehighst · 28/02/2023 11:32

I usually wear an old gone bobbily cardigan for reading/ browsing MN in bed...but I'm seriously tempted by a nice bed jacket!

SunThroughTheCloudsAt6am · 28/02/2023 11:43

I saw one once that was literally a quilt (it was even down filled) in the form of a jacket. Kicking myself now that I didn't buy it. I have a big fleecy shirt thing that's my go-to.

All I can see is Sybil wearing her bed jacket in hospital in Fawlty Towers.

FusionChefGeoff · 28/02/2023 11:49

I have both a Teasmade, a bed jacket and an electric blanket. I am only 43 Grin

BollocksToThem · 28/02/2023 12:01

I swear by my bed socks too
Granny was right

Siameasy · 28/02/2023 12:48

I’ve got a few fluffy fleeces from Uniqlo and I sleep in them

www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/fluffy-fleece-zipped-jacket-449753.html?dwvar_449753_color=COL15&dwvar_449753_size=SMA002

It says jacket but it’s also fine in cardigan mode.

I spend almost all of my day in bed (multiple conditions) and so I decided to treat myself by buying several very expensive cashmere shawls to wear in cold weather. I also wear large dangly earrings and pretend I am a very posh invalid to cheer myself up!

amberedover · 28/02/2023 14:46

Admire your spirit girlwiththecurl -bet you look fab.And cashmere is so light and so instantly warm ! ..

I'm team fleece jacket -the Uniqlo one is perfect .Full length sleeves with what looks like a slightly elasticated "cuff" so that they won't ride up .Perfect body length and nice cosy raised collar ....
can i resist getting one .?

Does anyone else wear a night cap? My head’s felt cold recently, so I’ve dug out an old fleece hat.

I find a sweatshirt works well as a bed jacket.

Yes, if it’s really chilly. My bedroom is badly insulated ( before Kevlar) and the windows are draughty , too. When it is minus anything, I keep my single layer fleece beanie on the bedpost to hand.

I’m having the windows replaced soon, though , so I may be beanie free next winter!

You also need a little tickly hand bell to ring for cups of tea and other assistance, (even if there is only you to answer it).

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 28/02/2023 14:56

I don’t like teasmade ( takes cover) , I don’t think the water boils properly so the tea is not quite right.

When I first spent the night with my then BF, he had a filter coffee machine by the bed, He set it up the night before, so he just had to press the button and…fresh coffee! I was very impressed.

Reader , I married him. We are on our eighth machine now.

Does anyone think those Slenderella ones are expensive? Feel rather taken advantage of !

Hottytotty · 28/02/2023 15:07

I ❤️ the idea that there’s a company still making night caps with matching night gowns - “treat yourself to a set” Grin
And in more good news my Mumsnet ads have transformed since I clicked on the thread this morning - quite a change from the endless sex toys…

Cup and saucer surely !!!! 😂

NormalForNuneaton · 28/02/2023 15:15

I wear my fleece Oodie casually draped across my shoulders with the arms worn like a scarf as it always seems to be my neck and shoulders that get cold.

It's great 'cos the bulk of the body and hood are behind me and act as a soft, warm blanket/cushion . So snuggly
