Since when has M&S been so good for clothes?!

After years of being dragged round M&S with my gran and swearing I'd never ever shop there..... I now own a Per Una jacket Shock

I was given a voucher for Asos for Christmas, still haven't managed to spend it and instead my last 5 purchases have all been Markies.

M&S have improved quite a lot over the last couple of years so I'm assuming they have new buyers now. Far better than 10 years ago when I wouldn't have even bothered visiting their stores.
Their customer service is much improved too, especially for collection of online orders.

ApolloandDaphne · 27/02/2023 21:47

My 30yo DD loves M&S especially for jeans. Having said that she did go out at the weekend wearing the top I wore to my 21st birthday. I am now 60! I think she has retro tastes.

The sort of underwear you might show to a doctor has made me properly giggle Grin

Same! Zara used to be my go-to, I'd usually like everything in there. But for the last 6 months or so I've found it to be crap. Also the quality has gone way down, the jumpers bobble so quickly.

New look and h&m are just shocking quality, I always walk in thinking maybe I'll find something today, but often walk straight out after about 30 seconds of seeing all the hideous polyester, creased outfits. I do like h&m baby clothes though!

I still find the style of a lot of M&S stuff a bit too middle of the road for my taste, but have recently bought a few more bits from there than in the past. The difference in quality now between M&S and H&M/New Look (where I used to shop loads) is what has struck me the most though. I still buy a lot of my more statement pieces for Zara, but for better quality basics M&S increasingly seems like a good place to start - more reasonably priced than Cos, for instance, for t-shirts. The leather-look leggings and cord leggings from M&S are fab. And I've always been a fan of their shoes. The high street has gone downhill in general, sadly.

But I bet you know exactly the sort of boring full coverage underwear I mean.😁

Any links to what people are buying would be appreciated

OP are you from the east coast?
I've lived in various places across the country and now east coast and locals say Markies I never heard it before I lived here.

I call in Markies too.I'm in Scotland

Fossie · 27/02/2023 22:13

They’ve stopped selling suit jackets though. I keep looking but they’re not out. They also keep moving the departments around in our local.

maddy68 · 27/02/2023 22:13

I have to say that I have never ever been an m&s shopper and I have bought several things from there recently. Am I getting old ? Their dresses fit beautifully

Boogismyname · 27/02/2023 20:56

I've heard their 'good move' fitness range is good but I've never bought it
because I don't exercise enough

I love their Good Move range. My favourite is the double layer shorts they do for summer. Really comfy, fun patterns and I can walk about in them or even sit down without flashing my arse cheeks or feeling like they're cutting me in half, and they usually have a zip up pocket!

deeplybaffled · 27/02/2023 22:18

It’s Marksies / Marxies round here - north west

BadAmbassador · 27/02/2023 22:24

I have bought quite a few things over the last year!
I have particularly loved wearing these boots.

Ah ok thank you.

Truckinghell · 27/02/2023 22:36

I've bought two things from Per Una this year. My mum won't stop laughing at me.

WrongSideOfLife · 27/02/2023 22:37

The last time I shopped there I bought what I thought were a few nice tops. One went in the charity bag when I bumped into a 74 year old wearing one. She wasn’t a trendy, youthful 74 year old either so that just means I’m an ancient mid 40’s fuddy-duddy!

Gingercatlover · 27/02/2023 22:39

Most of my money is spent in M&S these days, love their dresses and jumpers, have the Harper jeans in most colours also.
Online returns is fab and free.

userno777 · 27/02/2023 22:46

I'm late 50s and for me their clothes are mostly bad. No style and bad material.

In my late teens/20s I could not go in to M & S without wanting to buy a really beautifully designed item of clothing.

I'm now buying Toast, Cos and Baukjen.

HeartShapedSea · 27/02/2023 22:47

I've always bought m&s leggings, a dress last summer, underwear. I'm 40 but I've shopped there throughout my 30s. If you like something then why not.

I'm 4'11 too so will have a look😅any advice on where you find things that fit your leg length? I have to go for a cropped jean in most 'cool' shops that end up just being normal length or even slightly too long on me. I'm around a 27 inch leg but a size 12 so can't shop in the kids section like I could pre-lockdown😫

Land's End are brilliant for petite trousers. At 5' they are the only brand I can rely on not needing any alterations. They also manage to make the fit consistent regardless of style of trouser. Last time I went to M&S I needed different sizes in each of the styles I tried on which is really irritating

Ditto. I have some vouchers and was going to use them for posh food when we have visitors, but maybe not.

EachandEveryone · 27/02/2023 23:01

Last time we had a thread like this I ordered nearly everything that was recommended on here. All ill fitting rubbish. Nothing remotely nice.

Ive just been on the website and was thrilled to grab the last Clinique chubster stick in a colour I ran out of two years ago. So maybe their make up section is fine. And tights.

RampantIvy · 27/02/2023 23:05

I have these cargo pants that I bought last year and wore and wore until the weather got too cold.

I have these slim fit jeans

A few of the soft touch jumpers in different colours, a cashmere jumper, several pairs of knickers, a couple of ribbed vest tops, a denim jacket, a sweatshirt with pockets and quite a few other bits and pieces from M and S.

I am lucky that we have a flagship store not too far away and although there are times when there is nothing that appeals, there are also times when I need to curb my spending.

rainydogday · 27/02/2023 23:09

Ok like M&S as they do long length trousers! Loving the wide leg trousers at the moment.

Noodlehen · 27/02/2023 23:30

lanternlantern · 27/02/2023 20:52

I'm 32. Completely swerved away from New Look, not even liking Zara as much.

I’m 31 and haven’t shopped in new look for about 10 years I thought it was for teenagers. 🤣

I really like a lot of bits in M&S, big fan of their wide leg jeans too but usually I’m a Zara girl if out shopping and ASOS if online.

adrianmolesmole · 27/02/2023 23:33

They do surprisingly fantastic jeans.
