If you are at home today, what temperature is your house?

Without the heating on our house seems to fall to 11-12 degrees. I don't know if that is normal or if I just really feel the cold. We obviously can't afford to have the heating on all of the time but I just find it so miserable being cold.

Who accepts room temperature as 18 degrees? I think that's a minimum. I think 20 - 22 is more accurate.

It’s just the accepted “standard”. Not what your preference is of being comfortable. Google it.

GobbieMaggie · 27/02/2023 11:23

Depends which room you’re in. House is too big to hear otherwise.

Lcb123 · 27/02/2023 11:31

about 15? feels fine to me. Don’t have heating on.

WinterMusings · 27/02/2023 11:32

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/02/2023 09:58

i don’t think there is any house that would get to 5 degrees so of course it wouldn’t ever come on if it’s set to that overnight. Unless your house is an igloo.

@CurlyhairedAssassin

Was there any need? Really??

it would be nice if people stopped being so snarky.

the poster probably knows well enough that it's highly unlikely to come on, but most systems are set between 5 & 10 frost setting to protect the pipes.

if you say it's 'off' at night you get a pile in about protecting the pipes.

I'm not all about the 'Be kind' crap & often posters need telling straight, but it would be great if this snarkiness could stop.

Gjallerhorn · 27/02/2023 11:36

17.9 without the heating on, it went off at 9 am after in for 2 hours.

AndrexPuppy · 27/02/2023 11:38

25 degree according to the thermostat

WinterMusings · 27/02/2023 11:40

11C
It feels very chilly.
I cleaned the grate yesterday so don’t want to light the fire- lazy!

@MmedeGouge

in the '80's when I was a teenager, we had a 'I don't even know the proper name, but is was a fireplace on legs, no doors, it was lovely (very much of its time!!!) it was a big brass thing with a brass flu.

it was my job to keep the bastards g thing clean & sparkling. Also to set & light the fire after school so the house warmed up!

the bloody thing took an age to clean & id just about cry when I had to light the fire in it as it would look like it hadn't been cleaned in minutes!!!

of course it wasn't cleaned every day and I loved lighting it on the other days!

How much are your bills? must just be lucky as our heating is set to 18.5. We pay around 160 per month for joint gas and electric (fixed tariff)

We are on the standard government tariff and our highest was £160 so far. Typically we pay about £90 for both.

caringcarer · 27/02/2023 11:56

18 degrees. I have a blanket on sofa too for as soon as I sit down. I have to have heating on as I have arthritis as the pain is always so much worse if I get cold.

Notaflippinclue · 27/02/2023 12:07

No heating on 17 indoors in Cornwall

AuntieMarys · 27/02/2023 12:21

The house is currently 15 degrees.
Heating will go on at 4 for 2 hours

Cookerhood · 27/02/2023 12:22

Thank you @WinterMusings !
People are very quick to jump down throats these days

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/02/2023 12:30

@Cookerhood

Apologies if you thought I was snarky. That wasn’t my intention. The igloo thing was supposed to be a bit of a joke, I should’ve put a laugh emoji. I just wondered how come you seemed to be surprised that it had never come on at 5 degrees overnight as that was the impression you gave. The fact you have it on that as a frost setting is a different thing.

Actually someone else proved me wrong later on anyway if you read the subsequent posts when they said their house HAD got to that low overnight.

Cookerhood · 27/02/2023 12:33

@CurlyhairedAssassin
Thank you! No permanent offence taken. Easy to misunderstand words on a screen.

ifonly4 · 27/02/2023 12:35

Our heating is set to 18c, but switched off before came up to temperature this morning. Can't have been far off as digital reading in lounge (north facing is 17.3c).

My DD is a student in old flat in Scotland and the two she shares can't afford the heating on. She reckons it's around 11c.

Myotherusernameisshy · 27/02/2023 12:37

11c. It feels cool but I'm acclimatised to it now. I wfh and can't afford to heat the house during the day when I'm the only one here.

Proudofitbabe · 27/02/2023 12:42

18.5. Heating is off atm and due to come back on at 2.30.

I rarely let it go lower at home, my bones feel chilled. I'm wearing a hooded blanket atm and would feel cold without it. Before prices went berserk I used to Boost the hive constantly!

garlictwist · 27/02/2023 12:50

Mine says 13. Had the heating on for an hour at about 6am and that's it. It doesn't feel too bad.

thesonicoscillator · 27/02/2023 12:52

North Italy( Milan) today it's on 22°c as it's cold and we had sleet today. Until the weather warms up it's on 21 daily. WFH and we're freezing if it's not on, the house has no insulation. Will cost a lot (Gas) for the four-five months of the year we need heating, but it always has been expensive, so we've budgeted for it. Most people I know here have their heating at 23, and wouldn't think of wrapping up, we need to feel like it's summer!

LittleTiger007 · 27/02/2023 12:52

I work from home and keep the heat at about 16 degrees. I turn it up in the evenings to 19. It’s a false economy to let the house get too cold because you then need to use more energy to get the heat back up.

cocksstrideintheevening · 27/02/2023 12:53

19.5, heating was on 6-8 and I turned it on again around 10. My hands are freezing. We don't have a thermostat but the dial is on 60%.

Versailles2023 · 27/02/2023 12:58

17 degrees heating was on for an hour this morning 0630 to 0730 some windows are open as cleaning today.

GoChasingWaterfalls · 27/02/2023 13:03

16.2.

It comes on for two hours each morning and each night set to 19 but it doesn't seem to retain the heat very well. 1970s detached with massive double glazed windows, most of which are blown and we can't afford to replace them.

Holdinghnds · 27/02/2023 13:03

Its 8 degrees outside, inside is 12.9 currently. My house hasn’t been above 15C since November.

megletthesecond · 27/02/2023 13:06

19°. Heating is on and I'm wrapped up warm.
