I think he’s great when he does Zoe Ball’s show but is he fit to step into the shoes of living legend Ken?

I'm signing up for the premium GHR. I've accepted that Radio 2 no longer wants me as their demographic.
But I only used to listen to pop master on Sounds anyway.
I did follow Chris Evans to Virgin when he left - but he has become even more smug and pleased with himself lately - so for £1 a week for no adverts, Ken and Simon - GHR have played a blinder.

I might do this. Love Simon and Ken

I never understood the love for Ken Bruce. To me it all sounds: “hat, har, white man, potting shed, pun about the misses, har har, roast beef, har, har old white man, tedious uncle we must be polite. Har har diy gone wrong, the misses said, potting shed.”

Erm, none of that sounds like Ken Bruce to me.Hmm

Or me, it seems to be only you 🙄

How bizarre. I’ve listened to Ken for years and not heard him use the word “missus” once.

Obvs not everyone’s cup of tea - no dj is.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 25/02/2023 10:36

I think I should get the job as I had the genius idea to rename "Piano Room Month" to...

Pianuary

No idea why that hasn't occurred to Ken.

mrswhiplington · 25/02/2023 10:36

Just read that Ken's last show will be on Friday!! He was supposed to finish in March but been told they're bringing it forward and Gary Davies will fill in until Vernon takes over.😪

ThighMistress · 25/02/2023 10:59

I suspect they wanted a transition to avoid a one day Ken/next day Vernon situation and possibly unfavourable comparisons.

I am still bemused as to where the BBC expects the 50+ crowd to go. There were diverse radio programmes in the past: as pp mentioned, The Organist Entertains, the Dance Band Days, Folk… Not that I necessarily liked these, but there was a notion of catering to all tastes.

I did read a rumour that Radio 1 &2 could be merged (as was once the case) hopefully leaving an opportunity for those who like stuff from 70s onwards.

Also heartily agree about audience participation. So annoying! One brief birthday dedication per show only, please.

Ah yes, the charmer who cheated on his wife and stalked other women
perfect

Have you ever listened to his show?

Gutted.
@RuthGalloway I think you must have confused Ken with someone else. Either that or you need your hearing checked.

Vitriolinsanity · 25/02/2023 14:26

I would've put VK into the 2pm slot and got Gary Davies to do the 9:30.

I'm sure it's me, but I think whenever either Scott Mills or Neeta Rami are on they are quite patronising.

Definitely doesn't sound like Ken Bruce to me either. Have you been listening to the voices in your head instead if the radio? Grin

Looks like it wasn't his choice either. Shoddy behaviour by the BBC.

ThanksItHasPockets · 25/02/2023 14:31

It was very canny of Ken to secure the rights to PopMaster all those years ago. I’ll be following him.

Vitriolinsanity · 25/02/2023 14:32

I'm seriously in favour of the Ken and SImon channel with no adverts.

Am I the only one who can't stand Ken Bruce? Agree with comments about BBC recycling washed up talent but Vernon is an improvement on Ken for me.

I can't stand him either.
Like Jo Whiley
Radio 6 is great.

Anita Rani has come from the background of a successful career on BBC Asian network programmes and stations; she’s been a presenter on C4 and C5 and has been on tv and radio for around 20 years.

No, nor the KB I listen to either!!

Potting shed/allotment is a bloke Jeremy Vine speaks to occasionally - and it was excruciating on the day he was ‘potting out’ plants for the winter live on air and all you could hear were indeterminate sounds accompanying him supposedly filling pots with soil, compost (homemade of course) and the plants!! Then again, it’s better than the occasions when he try’s to pad out a small non news story into a phone in!

SlipSlidinAway · 26/02/2023 05:02

I’ve never been a huge fan of his style but I was lost forever for VK when he was caught sexting and embarrassed his family as he could t stop letching young reality TV women. Funny how these ‘disgraced men’ seem to crawl back in over time. Really annoys me.

^^ This.

XanaduKira · 26/02/2023 06:05

I'm loving all the changes - I'm still listening to radio 1 but not feeling it like I used to (mid-40s now!) so as long as they allow him to update the music, I'll definitely be listening to VK.

I also love Sara Cox and Jo Whiley but end up turning them off when they play 60s & 70s, so hoping that stops and the move the whole station to the 90s and beyond.

Great change in my opinion!

Appalonia · 26/02/2023 06:16

Been listening to GHR through Alexa and enjoying the music, but it comes up as local radio! Not sure how to get the national station?

RaelImperialAerosolKid · 26/02/2023 06:38

GHR is a hybrid of local and national- main presenter is national - news and adverts are local.

rainbowstardrops · 26/02/2023 07:46

I've got a feeling that radio 2 are going to lose a lot of listeners and GHR are going to have an influx!
I'm going to miss hearing Pop Master at 10.30 in the mornings!
