Vernon Kay taking over from Ken Bruce on R2

I think he’s great when he does Zoe Ball’s show but is he fit to step into the shoes of living legend Ken?

I don't mind VK but would like him to replace ZB on breakfast, I have silence in the morning now. Ken is king, they should have grovelled at his feet to stop him leaving. Don't mind JV and love Sara but why they though Scott Mills was a good idea is beyond me, although I agree Wrighty was past his best before date. I have seen Greatest Hits has Premium ad free option coming in April but would mean listening through an App which I don't think I could be faffed with, I just want to yell at Alexa to play

I’m waiting for Radio 1 to kick Greg James over to R2 once he turns 40. In the meantime Ken is taking Popmaster with him so I have no choice but to follow

I'm preferring Scott Mills to Steve Wright and whilst I think Ken Bruce is a veteran broadcaster, his show feels quite staid and dull, so I'm not sorry it will change.
Love Sara Cox in everything she does but Zoe Balls voice annoys me!

So disappointed Ken is going, ideally it would have been JV leaving! But I don't mind Vernon.
I might test Greatest hits radio though, the kids have capital on in the car so I'm used to adverts!

He can't replace Ken but he's a decent choice.

Gary Davies would've been my choice but then again he's no spring chicken and they'd probably give him the push in a few years time sadly. I like Greatest Hits and happily put up with ads to hear Simon Mayo.

Gary Davies is 64, so you can imagine the R2 bosses thinking hmmm won’t be long before he retires and we have to start all over again. Vernon is 50.

You can pay a monthly fee to listen to Greatest Hits Radio without the adverts. I might try it when Ken Bruce starts his show there.

When I was young R2 was for old people. Now I am old/middle aged they have turned it into R1 from the 80's and 90's. Makes sense in a way but it's not what I want.

I have given up on BBC radio and gone Radio X

I’d have preferred Gary Davies. Looks like R2 will bite the dust here and Alexa will have to work overtime finding decent music 😳

I was always pleasantly surprised when I heard Vernon Kay on the radio and think he will do a good job.

Lots of people have mention Ooh Gary Davies as a possible suitable contender - I’m sure on other mn thread people were more against him. Mn is a fickle old place at times. I do like Gary Davies but not sure he would have right for that slot.

I’m surprised they didn’t try to lure a big name from another station. I would like to have seen OJ Borg get the gig.

Sorry to sound like a total dick, but it's aimed at us millenials. The mid 30s - upward age of Mums/Dads, who like music from the 90s and 00s, not the same stuff Radio 2 have played since it was the 90s and 00s.

As one of their core target demographic, I love most of the changes. Will really miss Ken, he's brilliant, but I also love Vernon when he's on the breakfast slot. Despite finding him highly irritating on the TV. Love Zoe, love Sarah, can tolerate Scott far easier than Steve -interrupt everything because I'm in love with myself - Wright.

My Mum listens to it on her tv if that helps.

I think losing local radio is a travesty, we had a lovely local station, well established with good local presenters. They were swallowed up by Greatest Hits and all lost their jobs.

So I won’t be listening to Greatest Hits.

I also associate Vernon with the sleazy sexting scandal.

Please God no more of Ritchie, I'm sick of how the BBC decide someone is going to be a thing and they're everywhere regardless of whether anyone actually likes them or not - AJ Odudu is another one.

I realise I sound a bit Northern-ist - I'm really not, I'd just like to see people who are genuinely good at the job given a chance for a change.

I’m a Northerner - live not far from where Sara and Vernon are from and I can’t stand either of them. To me they reinforce the stereotype that Northerners are all a bit think.

The issue is that it is an exaggerated Bolton accent. He’s trying too hard to be from Bolton.
