Vernon Kay taking over from Ken Bruce on R2

I think he’s great when he does Zoe Ball’s show but is he fit to step into the shoes of living legend Ken?

I actually really like Vernon on the radio so don't mind all that much. I think he has the kind of relaxed presenting style that makes for easy listening, with the radio on in the background.

Completely agree with this, the recycling of washed up 'talent' and the apparent inability to develop new people is ruining all radio/entertainment. The demise of local radio is also preventing new talent from getting a foothold.

I'm not sure who radio 2 is now aimed at.

And can I add Jeremy V to your list as well. I only listen to radio 2 at the weekends now.

Never really liked Ken Bruce anyway, especially the quiz. I usually listen to yhe radio on my commute, so it's only Zoe and Sara I hear a lot anyway. Didn't most of the last lot come from radio one anyway? They just shift them over when they get too old.

Am I the only one who can't stand Ken Bruce? Agree with comments about BBC recycling washed up talent but Vernon is an improvement on Ken for me.

I don't mine Zoe Ball, so will probably continue with R2 to listen to her. Once she finishes [ when Ken Bruce leaves ] I will switch to GHR.
I really dislike Jeremy Vine and Scott Mills.

The only downside of GHR is the constant ads! Also I do like to listen to newer music, which they obviously don't play. Going to have to find that somewhere else that isn't R2.

Gary Davies would have been my top choice followed by OJ Borg. Both really professional.

That said, I dont mind Vernon and he does play good music.

As for Scott Mills, I do like the music he plays but gosh he is a boring man. I listen a bit behind on the Sounds app and fast forward through his chat.

I like Vernon on the radio, so I'd be happy to tune in when I'm off work. Scott, on the other hand - I had to turn off last week, I couldn't bear listening to him.

When Steve Wright went, I stuck with Scott Mills, and even got to like him. I'd never heard him before
But I have heard Vernon Kay and I cannot abide the man.

Vernon was so much better than I thought he would be. Still, I'm off to Greatest Hits Radio. I'll treat the ads like I do TV ads and nip to the loo, make a cup of tea etc.

Radio 2 is now dire, it used to be so good now it's like a reunion tour for clapped out Radio 1 djs instead of having its own identity. Next thing we'll see is a special Butlins R2 break advertised.

Don’t like Zoe Ball’s show, don’t mind Sara Cox but can’t do without KB. It’s all gone downhill since Terry Wogan left all those years ago. He was a true radio legend, RIP.

Same. I love Ken Bruce's show, but once he's gone I won't bother with R2 any more.

I don't mind Zoe as a person, but her show is twee and boring and the format is old.

Sara sounds bored and the call to check you're listening feature is pure desperation and local radio.

Scott Mills is boring and he sounds bored too.

Can't beat Greg James on radio one for the breakfast show.

I love bbc radio, but I'm missing the personalities like Chris Evans and Graham Norton. Vanessa was brilliant too.

Given that where I live all the local radio stations are "Northern" I don't have a problem with this.

I’m liking the changes to R2. Being in my forties, I feel too old for R1 but too young for the likes of Ken Bruce and Steve Wright. They seemed old-fashioned to me and the music was awful.

Scott Mills and Vernon Kay are therefore exactly what I want!

Haven't taken to Scott Mills though- I find him inane and forced- and despite loving Sara Cox, three hours every weekday is just too long. They should shorten Vernon by one hour, take 1 hour back from Coxy and slot in a completely new 2 hour programme.

I forgot about Gary Davies, I wonder why he didn't take over from Steve Wright, he'd be so much better than SM. And Vanessa Feltz is much better than JV, who appears to really struggle with his comprehension of a situation and needs it explained to him in a variety of ways, whereas Vanessa just gets it instantly. I like Sara Cox though.

Thank F it isn't Gary Davis, who is just the epitome of Smashy or Nicey to me.

Quite liked Vernon when I heard him standing in for someone recently, so I'll give him a chance.

Scott Mills has been a disaster from what I can gather. I don't listen as I find it impossible, he has me hissing at the radio.

I like R2, Zoe I don't listen to for the full show because of my routine but I can't stand when she's talking and she breathes in saliva mid sentence it's an annoying habit. Sara Cox is quirky and I enjoy bits of the show. I love Ken and Ritchie, can Ritchie not take over from Ken? I'm ashamed to say I think Vernon is a smarm and I associate him with the sexting scandal from years ago, he is annoying as a presenter. Scott Mills is so boring. I miss Vanessa she's fab to listen too. I never listened to Steve Wright because of his grating habit of speaking over the end of every bloody song and whatever the jocking thing was. Urgh glad he is gone. I won't follow Ken if there are a lot of adverts as I use his 2.5 hour show to walk with. I'll need to trial a few stations out x

I really like Ken but I also like Vernon so this is good news for me! I'll miss Popmaster though.....

I like Scott Mills. He sort of cuts the crap, no tedious waffling.

I love Vernon and am happy if this is true. I don't listen to Zoe - only catch her in the car in the way to work.....so I was gutted to find I missed him standing in (but I am loyal to Chris Evans)....but Vernon in the morning is perfect!!!
