Hurrah for the voice of reason. Now this is the sort of person we need as Prime Minister.

Yet another enlightening pearls of wisdom from Tories to bestow on people who they think are mentally not brightest spark in box

Mooshamoo · 23/02/2023 19:57

Rich people have no concept of being poor, and they think it is poor people's fault that they are poor. They think "why can't poor people better themselves to stop being poor"

When I was in school, I was pretty poor. I grew up with a single mother. My friend had two parents with good jobs, she was rich.

We were talking about rich and poor people once. And she said "but my parents deserved to be rich, they worked hard for it".

I pointed out to her that it's not always about working hard.

I told her that my father left us, he wouldn't pay maintenance, and no matter how hard my mother worked, we were still poor.

Rich people genuinely think it is poor people's fault that they are poor.

They think, "why just not stop being poor?". Like it's so easy.

I think Paris Hilton wore a t-shirt once that said "stop being poor"

@SerendipityJane would you mind adding an irony icon please as there are ladies on here living off husbands income in Manor House's who might think you mean that a woman with no discernible talent but pots of money and expenses actually has a good point

XelaM · 23/02/2023 20:02

Let them eat cake 🍰

I hope she remembers what happened to Marie Antoinette 🫣

I'm getting to the point where I will be compelled to change my username to Madame Defarge. Forward les triicoteuses.

Crikeyalmighty · 23/02/2023 20:11

I'm waiting for the phantom Tory PR ladies to come on here and justify Coffeys comments.

StaunchMomma · 23/02/2023 20:12

Interesting.

I read that and thought 'What a ginormous Tory cunt'.

And I stand by it.

oldwhyno · 23/02/2023 20:12

I agree with her on one point, it’s ridiculous of people to seriously think that a lack of fresh tomatoes in the supermarket is a significant hardship. Never enjoyed turnips much personally but there’s plenty of other seasonal veg around.

theworldhas · 23/02/2023 20:15

No hope of change for ten years minimum. New Labour version 2.0 will win a landslide in less than two years time. Will it be better than the last decade? Probably. It could hardly be worse. But it will basically just be a slightly modified version of the same failed economics and upward trickle of wealth. Come 2030 and beyond Britain will still be one the top three or four most unequal counties in the developed world, the average British worker will still be lagging way behind most of their European counterparts, and there will still be a “debate” to be had about the NHS etc. There’s a reason the likes of the DM and the Telegraph show very little fear of Starmer gaining the keys to Number 10.

So, 10 years of Tory lite to come - almost certainly followed afterwards by the real thing once again. Rejoice!

I could work all the hours I wanted, but I still wouldn't get any overtime pay!

Same 😰 Are you a teacher too? 😨

NeverDropYourMooncup · 23/02/2023 20:20

Apart from Turnips not being on sale in the main supermarkets at all - baby turnips are a niche, expensive purchase later in the year (obviously from the point of view of not being in Scotland, Swedes are available at 60p - £1 and cost a fair bit in fuel to cook with them being tougher than a breezeblock even at cricket ball sizes) - this comment made me laugh on Trolley;

"Very disappointed bought this item to feed family of 6 and it was the size of an orange"

RedToothBrush · 23/02/2023 20:21

The funniest thing about this, is the number of Brexit/Covid threads which joked about eating turnips.

Only for a government minister to advocate eating turnips.

Some of us can very legitimately say 'we told you so'. But tbh, it doesn't feel terribly good to do so.

Baldrick will be turning in his grave...

Dymaxion · 23/02/2023 20:21

@oldwhyno its not a hardship, plenty of the red lovelies in tins to be had if you need a tomatoe fix, makes your salad a bit sloppy, but beggars living in rich countries can't be choosers Smile

Valuesarekey · 23/02/2023 20:22

All politicians should spend a month doing low paid work or living on benefits. Unless they have huge amounts of empathy (most seem to be power obsessed psychopaths in government recently so don’t) then they won’t be able to imagine what real life is like.

JellyMouse · 23/02/2023 20:23

Turnips are £1.70 per kg in Sainsburys. Not the cheapest veg.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 23/02/2023 20:23

Why do people fall for these utter shit stirring cunts?

Dymaxion · 23/02/2023 20:24

cost a fair bit in fuel to cook with them being tougher than a breezeblock even at cricket ball sizes

Hot tip - chopping them up and freezing them and then defrosting them significantly cuts down on cooking time

Valuesarekey · 23/02/2023 20:25

From a carbon footprint point of view turnips grown here are a good option. We should be trying to move to seasonal local veg where possible. Here’s a good recipe but certainly not a cheap one!!!

Dymaxion · 23/02/2023 19:33

Can I just point out that sending children down the mines is no longer a feasible option, up a wind turbine however is a goer. They love a climbing wall and it would tick a lot of boxes in primary science ?

@Dymaxion

And that's PE taken care of simultaneously. Brilliant idea!

No wonder the UK is in the state is is when people trying to help are treated with such disrespect.

Disrespect? No.

Scorn and derision, yes.

There is a long and illustrious history of politicans demonstrating what we should eat by eating it, so I am expecting a photo op soon with Turnip eating a Coffey.

Jellykat · 23/02/2023 20:27

Sleep is so over rated!..

She sure looks like she's eaten enough food.

Give them turnips to chomp on- that should keep them busy.

🥕 couldn't find a turnip so will a carrot do 🙂
