Hurrah for the voice of reason. Now this is the sort of person we need as Prime Minister.

She's an arse. Can't stand her.

Isn't she a friend of Liz Truss?

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 23/02/2023 18:06

That’s the kind of trough talk we need.

thecatsthecats · 23/02/2023 18:07

Things humans need:
Physical exercise
Good nutrition
Good hygiene
Shelter
A good, small network of human contacts
Health care for when the above don't bring about good health

Every day I get more and more fucked off that billionaire capitalists have us all on the fucking treadmill to keep up bullshit productivity so they can buy another yacht.

Tambora · 23/02/2023 18:07

My dc works in hospitality, and is in a management role, clawing their way up the career ladder. The hourly rate is still pathetic. One of the shifts a couple of weeks ago started at 7am, and didn't finish until after midnight. On again at 7.30 in the morning. This is someone educated to degree level who works around 45-50 hours a week. Any chance of them and their partner in a similar role being able to even rent a 1-bedroom flat round here? None whatsoever. No other job opportunities either, they are both lucky that they have jobs at all. They literally couldn't work harder if they tried, and both have good qualifications.

Therese Coffey can take this rough end of a pineapple, and shove it where the sun don't shine.

MelchiorsMistress · 23/02/2023 17:51

Obviously it’s not as simple as ‘just get another job’ but do we really have to behave as if working for a living is an outrageous suggestion?

People ARE working but they're not being paid enough to make a living. That's the whole point. It's now not possible to 'live' on nmw.

I’m sure she can afford all the food she wants. Shame she has no empathy

Well she certainly looks like she has a calorie surfeit.

BlackbeardsToast · 23/02/2023 18:13

Just goes to show that there isn't really a vegetable shortage. It's just that they are all working in Westminster.

Thereluctantgrownup · 23/02/2023 18:13

Can't wait to eat my pasta in a turnip sauce tonight 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

darjeelingrose · 23/02/2023 18:13

Well. Let's just nickname her Baldrick and be done with it.

VictorStrand · 23/02/2023 18:14

I hope you're getting overtime for this thread then OP. No point being goady on the internet for free when you could get paid for it.

Bluevelvetsofa · 23/02/2023 18:17

I can’t see that she’s had to put up with any shortages. So pissed off with this now.

Pedallleur · 23/02/2023 18:17

Let's not forget her fellow Tories are out there working extra hours (other political parties available). Former PM Boris is having to live off the largesse of the Bamfords whilst flogging himself doing speeches for ££££ and being a Parliamentarian with his MP salary and/or PM allowance of £115k pa for life.

pointythings · 23/02/2023 18:17

@SerendipityJane is @jgw1 having the night off? Shame on her, she should be working those extra hours extolling the virtues of Our Great Tory Overlords!

catandcoffee · 23/02/2023 18:17

whatever1980 · 23/02/2023 17:40

Who looks after the kids if you're out working every hour? What with childcare being extortionate and/or non existent after core hours

You leave them at home to look after themselves, obviously. 😉

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 23/02/2023 18:18

Mmmm turnip pasta. You could start a whole new thing.

Turnip sausages
Fake turnip chicken
Sweet n sour turnip

🤮

Therese Coffrey is a complete vegetable. A turnip in fact. Coffrey the Turnip🧅
< there’s no turnip emoji>

So what she said was: "We know that one of the best ways for people to boost their income is not only to get into work if they are not in work already, but to work more hours or get upskilled to get a higher income."

Does she really think that this is news to people struggling? Does she think people are so stupid that they can't work this out for themselves? That we're sitting around working part time, capable of working more hours but not realising we'll get more money if we do?

Oh silly me, yes she does think we're that stupid.

Ah, no, someone explained this when another cabinet minister said people who couldn't afford energy bills should just turn the heating down.Hmm

This is nothing to do with them thinking we're stupid. (Though they do.)

This is virtue-signalling to the party faithful that those who aren't coping could just ask for a few more hours at work.

And voila, anyone complaining is transformed into a whinging shirker who doesn't work hard enough.

I doubt that pig in a trough has ever done a decent day’s work in her life. Meanwhile we have people struggling to heat or eat whilst doing 2 or 3 jobs because they are victims of the ridiculous zero hour contracts.

Don't we have Tony Blair and Labour to thank for zero hours contracts?

She obviously can afford the food everybody wants - and she does.

O hate to body shame, but . . . 😬

Emotionalsupportviper · 23/02/2023 18:21

Builds resilience! A vital quality in the workforce of tomorrow. And, bonus, if power cuts do become more frequent there is less chance of them electrocuting themselves.

HashtagShitShop · 23/02/2023 18:22

All those bloody teachers, nurses, police officers etc who dare say the government don't pay them a living wage? Who cares if there's no overtime budget and you often do many hours for free as you can't just clock off at the end of your shift? Or if you're running revision classes /school plays /after school sports clubs etc for free? You're all slacking bastards who aren't working hard or long enough! You should be ashamed!

Redebs · 23/02/2023 18:22

Exactly

RaininSummer · 23/02/2023 18:23

It does seem to be news to some people to be honest that they need to work and/upskill. Obviously doesn't apply to those in decent jobs already who are struggling.

When Coffey does my work for me, it is hard to find any more satire to throw around.
