Would you consider cauliflower cheese a meal?

So, I'm steaming veg (cauliflower, carrots and brocolli) and sauteing mushrooms, and I'll add some frozen peas and spinach. But this is just veg in a cheese sauce. WOuld you consider this a meal in itself?

Yes. 4 of us have cauli & broccoli cheese a lot, with crusty bread to mop up the excess sauce. Love it.

WonderingWanda · 22/02/2023 18:23

I meant I would eat that. That'll teach me to put the cup of tea down and use two hands!

Okunevo · 22/02/2023 18:25

Ratatouille, on the other hand, is not dinner (looking at you dm 😒)

we add jacket potatoes then yes!

wasacasa · 22/02/2023 18:26

I’d hoover it down and consider it a standard vegetarian meal but lacking in protein I think.

onaniert · 22/02/2023 18:28

That isn't cauliflower cheese though. Cauliflower cheese is just cauliflower.
You are making some kind of random cheesy vegetable dish.

To be more helpful and answer your question. Yes, I do consider cauliflower cheese to be a meal. I'll usually have it with a side salad.

PurplePrawn · 22/02/2023 18:28

It's always a main for me. With salad normally. I have seen it as a side dish at restaurants though

Thighdentitycrisis · 22/02/2023 18:28

Yes if served with carbs (jacket potatoes) or it won’t be filling enough. That meets all food groups
carb, veg, protein and dairy

TenoringBehind · 22/02/2023 18:29

Yes.

what you’re suggesting is also a meal but it’s not cauliflower cheese!

Georgyporky · 22/02/2023 18:29

Need protein & a stodge to be a meal.

PurplePrawn · 22/02/2023 18:29

I'm not a big meat eater though so that's probably why. I can eat loads of it in one sitting

Branleuse · 22/02/2023 18:29

It can either be a main or a side, depending on portion sze

Bongosbanjo · 22/02/2023 18:30

Yes

I'm happy with just the protein, but then I grew up on a combination of beige oven food and vegetarian food that was often just vegetables, cauliflower cheese was the best we got unless dad was cooking.

EwwSprouts · 22/02/2023 18:34

No. Unless you forgot to have pancakes yesterday and are having those after.

OhNoNotThatAgain · 22/02/2023 18:34

Throw in a few bits of ham or crispy bacon and I'd say yes.

Runnerduck34 · 22/02/2023 18:35

As long as it came with garlic bread!

LizziesTwin · 22/02/2023 18:35

Whole meal for us with green vegetables. Smaller portion with some meat & vegs also a meal.

EwwSprouts · 22/02/2023 18:35

Horrified by the PP who eat cauliflower cheese with a salad. Bleurgh.

Dzogchen · 22/02/2023 18:36

Yes, with a green salad. Delicious, in fact.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/02/2023 18:37

If there’s a lot and it’s served with a jacket potato, yes.
We often have that - a favourite in this house.

piedbeauty · 22/02/2023 18:38

Yes, I think so. Yum!

EnglishGirlApproximately · 22/02/2023 18:39

We have the Ottolenghi cauliflower cheese filo pie quite often, its definitely a main served with salad

wordler · 22/02/2023 18:39

Yes - you're basically making a vegetable gratin with all those extra vegetables. So perfectly fine for a vegetarian main course.

HairyKitty · 22/02/2023 18:41

Of course!
