Would you consider cauliflower cheese a meal?

So, I'm steaming veg (cauliflower, carrots and brocolli) and sauteing mushrooms, and I'll add some frozen peas and spinach. But this is just veg in a cheese sauce. WOuld you consider this a meal in itself?

Yes its a meal. No different to if you had all those bits of veg and mixed it in a curry sauce instead of the cheese sauce. No one would say a veggie curry wasnt a meal

But you’d have rice with a veg curry. I would anyway. Or naan.

Cauliflower cheese, generally not
Vegetable gratin, yes

But we probably eat too much, and too much meat, in this country so our social norms are weird around food

YY to this. We've already had the 'it's OK for lunch but not dinner' crowd in, but no-one's ever been able to give a rational explanation as to why they think this.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 22/02/2023 18:14

the cheese sauce would have 25g of flour max between even 2 never miond 3-4 that would not be enough carbs unless there was a medical reason for so few carbs, normally about 100g cooked carbs per person
i would have obe form of carb with it, it doesn't really need meat if sufficient cheese

Yes. Sounds great. Not everything needs pasta/potato/rice/meat

StrapOnYourHeroHair · 22/02/2023 18:15

Nope. Macaroni cheese with cauliflower? Yes:

Witsendwilly · 22/02/2023 17:34

Yes if it’s big enough and it’s just for me.

I wouldn’t serve it up for someone else as a meal though

Agree with this.

avocadotofu · 22/02/2023 18:15

No

HeadacheEarthquake · 22/02/2023 18:15

Yes, if you add some bacon!

Newnamenewme23 · 22/02/2023 18:15

From a recent thread, why is soup
a meal but this isn’t?

I dont eat carbs so no I wouldnt but I would want high protein but the cheese sauce would give some protein in this case.

AllWorkYoPlait · 22/02/2023 18:16

Maybe if it was just for me, but I don't think I'd serve it to anyone else. It sounds soggy.

canina · 22/02/2023 18:16

I had this for dinner today!

midgemadgemodge · 22/02/2023 18:16

Because there are people on both threads who see both as a meal

Whereas sone people on the other thread said soup wasn't are probably similar to those here who think cauli cheeee isn't

Yes, lovely with some garlic bread!

Yes!

Okunevo · 22/02/2023 18:17

Yes, just a bigger serving than for lunch. The cheese is the protein so it's a meal the same as meat and veg is. It was a regular dinner for us growing up with a veggie dm with only a few dinners she could cook from scratch!

ididntwanttodoit · 22/02/2023 18:19

Yes, with a side. Gare;ic bread, pitta, fries, OR in a dish with puff pastry on top- voila! Cheesey vegetable pie!!

saraclara · 22/02/2023 18:20

It is for me. I love caulifower cheese and big chunks of good wholemeal bread and butter.

But garlic bread would do the same job I'm sure.

parrotonthesofa · 22/02/2023 18:20

Yes sounds great!

Onwayoutsoon · 22/02/2023 18:20

I’m not an eat meater it would be a meal for me.

Okunevo · 22/02/2023 18:20

Soup is suitable for dinner if it has lentils or beans in it, or onion soup with cheese on toast. Not if just vegetables, though I would eat this for lunch. I wake up hungry without protein.

DNBU · 22/02/2023 18:21

Yes!

jamdonut · 22/02/2023 18:21

Yes. I very often have it on its own.

booboo82 · 22/02/2023 18:21

At least chuck in some nice chunky bacon lardons 😋

ShinyPikachu · 22/02/2023 18:22

I have it as a meal quite regularly. I'll make cheesy pasta for DC and make a cauliflower (sometimes cauliflower and broccoli) cheese for myself instead. It fills me up so counts as a meal to me.

WonderingWanda · 22/02/2023 18:22

I could eat yesterday for a meal with some nice bread but my fussy family wouldn't.
