The secret things you do that no-one else knows....

Every day that DP is out of the house at work, I buy an early-afternoon energy drink. They are rancid, sugary, unhealthy and downright common as muck but I absolutely love the buzz I get for the rest of the day. DP would be appalled with me if he found out 😅

My MN habit is a secret too. I don't have children, and I'm meant to have a professional, busy job which doesn't allow time for fucking about online. But here I am. I'm friends with a lot of women with young children who regularly talk about things being discussed on MN. I feign surprise or interest but I'm really thinking "Yeah, I saw that".

When I'm stressed and home alone, I talk to myself. I talk myself through what's getting me down, why, and what I need to do. I also reassure myself saying things like "Pull yourself together, it's fine, make a list and let's start at the top". I have no shame about this, I think its a perfectly normal thing to do. Except that I talk to myself in random accents. Today I went inexplicably scouse. My temporary foreign accent syndrome is the reason I keep this particularly activity a secret.

Tell me your secrets....

BTW, long-timer but NC just in case!

When I'm out walking (I walk alot) I dance, prance, spin and twirl - in my head! But I actually feel like I'm doing it 😆

I take all the ironing to the laundrette to be professionally ironed. My husband has no idea. He thinks I'm brilliant at ironing and a real trooper for doing it all without any fuss. 😄

And this !! Why wouldn’t you, its brilliant !!

Ginger1982 · 16/02/2023 21:54

I write FanFiction for all the programmes where I fancied male characters and their love interest in every one is basically me.

quietnightmare · 16/02/2023 21:57

When alone at night I turn off all the lights and run up the stairs and pretend I'm being chased and feel great success when I make it to my bedroom alive

I pretend I'm in music videos some days and will act it out in my living room

When my husband wants something for tea and I don't I go to the supermarket and get what I want and then say I'm sorry the shop didn't have x and y so I can't make what you want and he always thanks me for getting something different that he also likes of course

I drink 2 bottles of beer and cry for my dad; I'm 53, and he died 4 years ago, but I cry most days in secret. I also talk to my cat in different accents and address him as "my dear young friend". And eat Dr Oetker pizza in secret.

When I was pregnant I got McDonald’s breakfast every.single.day before work. I was sometimes late for work 🤷🏻‍♀️ I spent so, so much money keeping up that habit for months, usually we are v strict at budgeting and takeaways DP would be appalled if he knew. Baby is 6 weeks now and I miss it.

I buy scratch cards on the national lottery app, not loads usually £10-£15 a month but for some reason I feel really guilty doing this especially when I lose (which is always.)

I have a childish habit of sticking my tongue out and/or sticking fingers up behind DPs back if he annoys me. This is not limited to DP but as we live together he gets the brunt of it.

@CharlieSays13 I like those videos as well. The relief the person must feel!
I still run upstairs on all fours. I have to stop myself doing it at work.

That's how I use the stairs at home🤣

I love Within Tempation! If I mention them to others, they look at me with a blank expression on their face! Nice to 'meet ' someone else who has heard of them.

Nice to 'meet' you too!

iwantchinese · 16/02/2023 22:15

This thread has made me laugh!

Mine has to be MN as my friends/family would think it’s weird i read forums online, whenever my partner asks what i’m reading i just say facebook and i don’t know why😂.

Also every night when my DC’s are asleep i put asmr on in the background to listen to before i sleep.

I secretly vape and only my mum and sister know, the thing is i don’t even need to hide it as i’m on my 20’s so i’m allowed, it’s just everyone was so proud when i gave up smoking in my first pregnancy. After i had my 2nd i just had a urge to do it and it’s just continued, i’m hoping to break the habit when i return to work cos i won’t be at home all day!!

JustJamie5 · 16/02/2023 22:15

love this thread!

Love Pokemon go…. DP and my sister know about this…. But it’s top secret!! my collection is enviable though!! (couple of shiny legendary ones)

I’m on mumsnet…. 38 no kids…. honestly not even sure if I like kids! (Individuals are ok, but collectively hmmm)…

Oh and I have a work crush…. Hes 30, married, lives at the other end of the country, I work in HR and clearly I do love my DP!!…..but still, messaged me on Teams yesterday and I got a bit giddy! Sure it’ll pass! And he is mostly ‘just a pretty face’

Animal crossing

MrsRinaDecker · 16/02/2023 22:25

I talk to my cats - they have voices and talk back!
I also write imaginary AIBU’s in my head (I usually am..)
And I make up all sorts of stories in my head when I can’t sleep, usually picturing myself in whatever novel I’m currently reading, but I have some favourites I go back to that I could almost write a book of of my own.

UnctuousUnicorns · 16/02/2023 22:25

"I secretly vape"

Oh God, that's just reminded me - I used to smoke Consulate or Berkeley menthol ciggies from my late teens to mid twenties, only about five to ten a day. My parents never knew, and I'm 52 now, and they still have no idea! 😂

Ilovelblue · 16/02/2023 22:26

There are some brilliant ones on here which have made me laugh out loud.

When I am driving on my own, I have to find car registration plates that make up an acronym. It could be something like AB72 NHS for example. If it's a three letter one which is a foreign word (usually French or Spanish for me), I give myself two points, all others are one point. I have to get to ten points for it to be a good day ahead.

Also, apart from the four friends I have made via a MN thread, none of my real life local friends know I am on here. Sometimes I want to mention something I've read on here but have to term it vaguely as "one of those things I read online somewhere".

Yonks · 16/02/2023 22:28

As I literally have no sex life with DH when I go to bed I imagine me and my lover getting it on (an ex Boss whom Id always fancied the pants off). We bumped into one another about a year ago and the crush resumed 😀😀.

I usually head off to bed early as I get so excited thinking about him!!!

Oh telling people to ‘f’ off in my head whilst smiling to their face!

I also give myself pep talks…You can do this, try your best, don’t let others get to you! Etc, etc……

I sing in the car…..loudly….

Binge on shite TV……DH has no idea and I just listen to him criticising certain TV programmes that I watch when he’s out! 😆

bringincrazyback · 16/02/2023 22:34

@bringincrazyback I'm glad it's not just me with the Sims obsession. I've actually cried at the deaths of some of them in the past and I once lost my whole Sim world and had to start again when my laptop broke and I needed a new one. The save files just wouldn't transfer over properly.

@Teelu I lost the whole game once too, so I feel your pain! I have painstakingly rebuilt my houses/recreated my favourite Sims as best I could - I don't like to think how much writing I could have got done in that time. 😂
Fortunately Sims don't die in the mobile game, although one of my houses is 'haunted' by a Sim who became unplayable due to a bug. 😂

VeronicaFranklin · 16/02/2023 22:37

Watch ASMR videos on YouTube of people having their back tickled or hair twiddled, I find it strangely relaxing.

I use hair clips (Kirby grips) to give my ears a good itch! Instead of cotton buds!

I sing musical theatre at the top of my lungs even though I'm absolutely tone death, I think my neighbour once heard me belting out a rendition of 'Memory' from Cats as I saw him putting something in the bin right outside the window after I'd finished singing, he probably thinks I'm batshit. Now we just awkwardly smile if we pass.

On my morning walk to work I pretend I am Lizzie Bennett rushing to Netherfield to see her ill sister Jane, it helps me walk quicker as I am usually running late. In my mind I will arrive at work with a “brilliancy of complexion”. In reality I usually arrive in peri-menopausal sweatiness. 😄

This is brilliant.

UnctuousUnicorns · 16/02/2023 22:41

I'm another FU behind DH's back when he pisses me off. 🙂

Oh you've reminded me that I had to build a cemetery plot because if you keep the gravestones or urns in the house when a Sim has died they haunt the house and make furniture float around. It scares the hell out of the other Sims so I just send the gravestones to the cemetery now and it's all set up in beautiful rows with flowers at all the graves. There's a pet cemetery next door to it too. One day I'll make a Sim visit the cemetery in the middle of the night and see if they die of fright with all the ghosts but it'll have to be one I make up just for that so I don't lose a beloved one. Grin

VeronicaFranklin · 16/02/2023 22:42

I also edit fan vids for some of my favourite tv dramas and have a lot of support for them online but for some reason I daren't admit this in real life my DH knows but no one else.

DotAndCarryOne2 · 16/02/2023 22:42

CharlieSays13 · 16/02/2023 11:27

I watch YouTube videos of people having their ingrown toenails removed. Can you imagine admitting to that in real life?!

I watch YouTube videos of people having maggots removed from their heads with tweezers. Huge, wriggling maggots. You can go down a lot of rabbit holes on YouTube once you discover some of the disgusting things people like to share !!

Backtoblack1 · 16/02/2023 22:44

I’m 47 and started vaping last week! Always hated smoking but am suddenly drawn to vapes 🙈

Perry34 · 16/02/2023 22:48

Crushing on the kids teacher when we have meetings. He’s beautiful. 😂 I can barely look at him in the eye.
