What is the nicest (lighthearted!) thing anyone has ever said to you?

I’m thinking more silly things than telling you that you are the best X in the world, brilliant at your job etc, but obviously those are lovely and very welcome too!

Years ago my partner put The Little Mermaid on for his youngest daughter. When it got to the bit where Ursula disguises herself as Vanessa, DSD turns to my partner and said “this is the bit where she does the spell so she looks like SophieLaGiraffe!”.

I really don’t think it’s true, but remembering it always cheers me right up if I’m having a bad day!

Please share your lovely compliments 😊

Job related (sorry 😆) I used to temp and one of my assignments was a small medical company. On the day I was leaving I was talking to a colleague I hadn't had that much to do with, and she said how sorry she was I was leaving - 'because after you'd been here a few days I said to X, 'now there's a chick that really knows her shit.'' I have adopted that as my mantra at work - don't mess with me, I'm a chick that really knows her shit.

My midwife told me I was 'hard as nails' Grin

Livedandlearned · 07/02/2023 13:47

A colleague once told me that she likes how I "talk to everyone in the same way".

I work in frontline NHS and took this as a compliment.

MeOldBamboo · 07/02/2023 13:51

Had my work anniversary pop up on Linked in last month. An ex colleague congratulated me on there and said “you are one of the best I’ve ever worked with” to which other people then agreed and commented similar. Put a spring in my step I can tell you!

Years ago now, but a BiL who was going through a very fraught separation (not his fault) had been staying for a few days and trying to see his kids who were staying nearby - and SiL was putting obstacle after obstacle in his way.
After poor old BiL had finally left, dh said, ‘Thank you for making a nice home’, which I still think is one of the nicest things he’s ever said to me.

NB, he was not referring to the decor!

Echobelly · 07/02/2023 15:03

'You're so chilled'

And

'It's good to have you as a friend'

MuseThrower · 07/02/2023 15:04

I’m learning French at the moment, and I had to read a passage out yesterday. My teacher said, ‘You sounded French!’

I was chuffed to les bits Grin

My mum once told me I had very pretty arms, it makes me chuckle when I think about it.

Freebiesbehindcrowsfloors · 07/02/2023 15:08

My dh once thanked me for making his horrid batchelor flat in to a “proper home”. I don’t know why bc I work and everything but I have always remembered that compliment and felt good about it, probably bc he is very self sufficient and rarely needs help with anything else!

stonebrambleboy · 07/02/2023 15:11

I was a 'breath of fresh air' ( work related ) .

GetOffTheTableMabel · 07/02/2023 15:14

My DD was 2 and she cuddled up to me and said “I have lots of kisses in my feelings”. She’s 22 now and I still don’t think anyone has said anything nicer.

My auntie told me that my DH said to her that I am his ‘joy’ and I like that a lot too.

Shutupyoutart · 07/02/2023 15:15

That I have "lovely smiley eyes" :)

BadgerButty · 07/02/2023 15:20

My daughter - who I adopted - had lots of care moves and carers before me. She always tells me I am her ‘favourite mum’

My mum once told me I had very pretty arms, it makes me chuckle when I think about it.

I was told once that 'you have a pretty neck.' I remember that when I look at it now in its current saggy condition. And like another pp have been called a breath of fresh air at a new job.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 07/02/2023 15:41

That I'm a fiesty bitch

Bookist · 07/02/2023 15:49

Most recently at passport control. The officer looked at me, looked at my passport, looked back at me and asked me to confirm my date of birth. When I confirmed it he shook his head slightly and said 'Wow, you look much younger.'

I floated in a cloud of joy to Baggage Reclaim.

HazelBite · 07/02/2023 15:49

DIL (to be) told me that I was the type of Mother that everyone wishes they had.

FusionChefGeoff · 07/02/2023 15:54

When DH and I got married, his cousin had just started dating a woman with a 4 year old we'd not met. She brought her to the early evening do and, when they came in, the little girl turned to her Mum, open mouthed and gasped "Mummy!! Who's the beautiful princess?!!!"

I was MADE UP!!!

FavouriteSlippers · 07/02/2023 16:19

Dh always says how he loves how i treat dsc the same as my own / our own dcs.

Marblessolveeverything · 07/02/2023 16:24

When I was an older teen a younger teen admirer told me I was like a gorgeous giraffe. Still makes me smile as the most original compliment

Tidsleytiddy · 07/02/2023 16:46

When I was MUCH younger, aged about 20 I asked if there was anything I could do to help with rearranging the office where I worked. My manager replied “No, you just sit there and look nice”. I suppose this would be seen as sexist now. It was 1982

anomaly23 · 07/02/2023 16:48

I am diabetic after gestational diabetes when pregnant with ds, it never went away. I have normal bmi and my weight is well within the parameters for my height but I'm still diabetic.

So I go to a medical appointment for something else and tell them I'm diabetic and they asked how I was when I was diagnosed in childhood. They thought I was type 1. I was flattered.

GlumyGloomer · 07/02/2023 16:50

Aw, I love this thread.
My favourite is: "You are a good good mummy in the world". I love that it's unintentionally accurate (I may not be the best, but I think I qualify as good, and I am indeed in the world 😁)

CatherinedeBourgh · 07/02/2023 16:53

Ds2 (aged 7 or 8) talking to my sister about the dinner I was cooking (which was something he'd never eaten before).

'I know I'm going to enjoy it. Mummy could take rotten dog and make a tasty meal out of it.'

PauliesWalnuts · 07/02/2023 16:54

“Oh My God Ellen your auntie is so cool”. Said by my niece’s school friend at her 21st birthday.
I was 40 and wearing red glitter ballet pumps.
