What is the nicest (lighthearted!) thing anyone has ever said to you?

I’m thinking more silly things than telling you that you are the best X in the world, brilliant at your job etc, but obviously those are lovely and very welcome too!

Years ago my partner put The Little Mermaid on for his youngest daughter. When it got to the bit where Ursula disguises herself as Vanessa, DSD turns to my partner and said “this is the bit where she does the spell so she looks like SophieLaGiraffe!”.

I really don’t think it’s true, but remembering it always cheers me right up if I’m having a bad day!

Please share your lovely compliments 😊

A work colleague handed me a magazine with Cameron Diaz on the cover and said "You look just like her" they were not joking or sucking up. They insisted it was true. Always been very fond of that co worker and of Cameron Diaz and her films since then.

Someone I used to work with, not particularly closely but we always had a little wave when we saw each other or a chinwag in the staff room now and then. Anyway one day I smiled at her and said hi as we passed in a corridor. She stopped me and said 'can I just tell you.. whenever I see you it makes me so happy to know that you're around, somewhere in the building. Can't really explain it and I don't want to sound weird. I just really like having you around.' That is easily the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.. and probably will!!

"Yeah, don't underestimate her - she's MUCH smarter than she looks" 😂

chronictonic · 07/02/2023 17:05

Someone I worked with for years and looked up to, they were my mentor, used to always say that I was so good at managing tricky people situations that I should have been a Diplomat which I always thought was lovely!

AggieTop · 07/02/2023 17:05

My darling nephew, who died in his teens, once said to me "whenever I see you Auntie Aggie, you are always smiling". It is a memory that I have treasured so much since we lost him.

My boss who is now a friend once said to me that there are teachers who work in special education and then there are special education teachers and that I am the latter.
I was having an off time at home and will never forget it . It made my day and I smile years later when I think of that.

In my 60s, on holiday with adult DD, walking back upstairs to our apartment from the pool when she told me I had "a very pert bum"! It's become a bit of a family joke over the years but it made my day at the time!

When my son was three and going through his ‘Bob The Builder’ phase, he said “you can be my measuring tape girl”. Still melts my heart tears later.

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 07/02/2023 17:14

I have had two recently.

One a friend said to me ' I like how you have no sides to you'.

And recently when we got netflix and DH could not figure out how to set it up. I did it and tossed him the remote and said; Am I the smartest person you ever met?!' and he replied; 'Well, actually yes you are'.

I was really thrilled with both those comments.

That my granddaughter looks like me.
(My granddaughter is, of course, the most beautiful child to ever walk this earth) 😀

Bluevelvetsofa · 07/02/2023 17:23

I’d been working with a boy who was at risk of exclusion from school and I went to see him for the last time, before he moved to secondary school. He’d managed to complete his primary education and we were both very pleased about that.

He was a very able boy and I was talking to him about his future and what he might do. He looked me in the eye and said ‘Miss, I’ll never forget you’. It made me tear up a bit and I’ve never forgotten him or his words.

My cousin's little girl said to me, "you've got hair like Princess Jasmine" <3

LadyMargaretDevereux · 07/02/2023 17:34

If anyone ever says that my daughter looks like me, I take it as a huge compliment.

ClaribelLowLieth · 07/02/2023 17:42

My friends daughter started calling me Trinity - as in Carrie Anne Moss in the Matrix. Was stunned and delighted!

SouperNoodle · 07/02/2023 17:43

A girl once walked up to me and told me that I have really nice elbows 😂

Toddlerteaplease · 07/02/2023 17:44

Was joking this morning that I fancied moving to a specialist orthopaedic hospital. And one of the consultants, who was standing at the nurses station, looked absolutely horrified and told me that I was not allowed to go anywhere. Massive compliment!

RedBonnet · 07/02/2023 17:47

When I was a teenager someone said I looked like Stevie Nicks. For years I was deeply insulted because I thought she was Lindsay Buckingham (and he was her) lol

mrsdolittle · 07/02/2023 17:57

When I had DD the midwife said I had perfect nipples for breastfeeding Smile

A friend of my daughter saw me driving into Tesco some years ago. I waved to my daughter, the girl who is a lesbian, said 'oh my god, who is that?'
My daughter said it was a compliment.
Now I'm a wrinkled old crone sadly.

Tallisker · 07/02/2023 18:41

Someone told me I was like sunshine on a work call the other day (in the chat). It cheered me up no end.

Purplepeoniesdroppingpetals · 07/02/2023 18:44

My dh once interrupted my rant about teaching with the comment that when I get to 80, I can look back and know that I changed lives. The other day, a colleague told me that without prompting a student with quite profound additional needs told her that ‘Mrs Purplepeonies is very pretty’, which she felt communicated pleasure at my personality (I’m old and not commonly described as pretty) - I did try not to cry at that one.

Chevyimpala67 · 07/02/2023 18:52

I recently stood down as Chair on a charity board.
The manager I've worked with closely over the years wrote me a thank you letter that was SO lovely I've kept it.
No one has ever said so many nice things about me.

saraclara · 07/02/2023 18:53

As the guy who came out to replace the fan in my oven this afternoon was leaving, he said "you have a very clean house"
If you knew me you'd fall about laughing 😂. I'm wondering if I should give my cleaner a pay rise.

icanneverthinkofnc · 07/02/2023 18:55

1)That I was the best recruitment decision he had ever made. New job.
2) I am the best travelling companion anyone can wish for. Holiday with a friend.

mac1974 · 07/02/2023 18:56

@Bluevelvetsofa that's lovely. I would definitely have cried

I've been told this week that I have a kind heart. Quite liked that.
