What is the nicest (lighthearted!) thing anyone has ever said to you?

I’m thinking more silly things than telling you that you are the best X in the world, brilliant at your job etc, but obviously those are lovely and very welcome too!

Years ago my partner put The Little Mermaid on for his youngest daughter. When it got to the bit where Ursula disguises herself as Vanessa, DSD turns to my partner and said “this is the bit where she does the spell so she looks like SophieLaGiraffe!”.

I really don’t think it’s true, but remembering it always cheers me right up if I’m having a bad day!

Please share your lovely compliments 😊

I came out of the meeting room and my client said “god you are tiny, but you are such a boss bitch!” I laughed out loud!

'You have great knockers' - a female friend
'You're the fairest maiden in all the land' - DD

I have called my grandson a cute nickname since he was born. He now has his first girlfriend and on the way to pick them both up ( and meet her for the first time) I was saying the mantra of name not nickname, name not nickname. As she got in the car, the first thing she said was that grandson had told her I called him by a nickname. I said yes but I was trying not to now he’s practically grown up. She told me that her dad had given her a nickname when she was born and still uses it. Later that evening I received a text from grandson that said thank you for inviting my girlfriend. We both had a lovely time, then he signed it , lots of love then put his nickname. I thought that was such a lovely thing to do .

Working on an advice line and at the end of a conversation a lovely client said that "no-one would need medication if they could talk to you".

Made me well up a bit 😊

A more emotional one. I taught a very complex non-verbal child in my special school class. He was an amazing kid. There was so much in him that was tantalisingly close, but inaccessible, and he arrived to me self harming. But we clicked somehow, I could tune into him, and he had a really good year.

When his equally wonderful mum came to the last parents evening of the year she looked at me, beamed, and said "you get him. You really get him!" And that meant so much. It was my last parents evening before retirement, and her face and her words stay with me.

Not quite sure if it's a compliment but a very good looking gay man once told me if he wasn't gay he would sleep with me..

Toddlerteaplease · 07/02/2023 19:07

When I come out with something that my friend wouldn't necessarily expect me to know. And I jokingly say. "Are you impressed that I know that? And he said "I'm always impressed by you"

I am diabetic after gestational diabetes when pregnant with ds, it never went away. I have normal bmi and my weight is well within the parameters for my height but I'm still diabetic.

So I go to a medical appointment for something else and tell them I'm diabetic and they asked how I was when I was diagnosed in childhood. They thought I was type 1. I was flattered.

I'm confused by this one.

Iwantyourmidnights · 07/02/2023 19:15

My DD8 recently told me that all of her friends think I look like a model. Given I'm mid 30's and have had 2 babies in the last 2 years it felt like quite the compliment!

Mummymidwife33 · 07/02/2023 19:18

I'm this thread is lovely!

My DD14 told me that I am the glue that holds this family together. And that her friends all think I'm fit!

Not sure which one I like the most!

TroysMammy · 07/02/2023 19:22

My friend's little boy asked "is Troys family Mummy?" To which she replied " no but she's good as".

HuntingoftheSnark · 07/02/2023 19:23

When she was a teenager, DD told me half proudly, half mystified that her friends thought I was "cool mum". I didn't know any of them and definitely wasn't worthy, but accepted it graciously.

JuneWind · 07/02/2023 19:25

My DD (3yrs) said to me the other day “you’re not just a mummy, you’re a hero”. Made me incredibly emotional, especially as she’d been a little terror most of that morning!

plominoagain · 07/02/2023 19:26

I've been told recently that people love working with me because now matter how fraught things might get , I'm always really calm so it takes the pressure off . ( They don't see me singing all the way hom

plominoagain · 07/02/2023 19:27

Bah ...

They don't see me singing my way home ...

Also got told my voice over the radio is like easy listening Grin

Ridingthegravytrain · 07/02/2023 19:28

A lovely lady at my local supermarket told me she thinks I look like a famous actress. We now joke every time I'm on her checkout about what I'm currently filming and how were the oscars etc. I don't see it myself but lovely ego boost!

iliveinhappyvalley · 07/02/2023 19:32

@anomaly23 I had very similar when I walked into a diabetic eye screening appointment and the consultant turn to the medical students and said 'and this is what a healthy well controlled diabetic looks like'. Made me smile

chimichangaz · 07/02/2023 19:33

My son was once talking about a missing child, who everyone had given up on ever finding.

He said to me that he knew if he ever went missing I would NEVER give up looking for him.

Made me feel very emotional that he knew how much I love him.

BeaLola · 07/02/2023 19:36

When my DS just a few months after we adopted him (4.5) said that I was his REAL Mummy - REAL like in the Velveteen Rabbit - he said that all his love for me had made me REAL.

That keeps me going especially now he's a teenager (!)

namechangeforthisbleep · 07/02/2023 19:37

Someone told me I was the most charming person they've ever met. I've never been called charming before, I thought it was lovely (even if old fashioned)

SabbatWheel · 07/02/2023 19:40

I was once described as “scary fun” 🤣

ShandaLear · 07/02/2023 19:43

My son’s friend told me I was the best fun of all the mums. My son was SO proud of me!

That's lovely. I would have had a massive confidence boost hearing that. That's how I felt when they said type 1 to me. The recognition that it's not my fault.

Bluetrews25 · 07/02/2023 20:02

When I was in primary school I heard a friend's mum say to my mum 'I'm so glad my daughter's friends with Bluetrews, she's such a good influence'

I was very disappointed!
