What is the nicest (lighthearted!) thing anyone has ever said to you?

I’m thinking more silly things than telling you that you are the best X in the world, brilliant at your job etc, but obviously those are lovely and very welcome too!

Years ago my partner put The Little Mermaid on for his youngest daughter. When it got to the bit where Ursula disguises herself as Vanessa, DSD turns to my partner and said “this is the bit where she does the spell so she looks like SophieLaGiraffe!”.

I really don’t think it’s true, but remembering it always cheers me right up if I’m having a bad day!

Please share your lovely compliments 😊

A child I teach told he this week I was “beautiful, just like a Disney Princess”. Made my week 😃

WorkHardPlayHard1 · 07/02/2023 20:05

I was told "you could be a model but not because you're pretty" honestly made me die laughing as it was such a rubbish try at a compliment ! 😂

Sexypyjamas · 07/02/2023 20:08

Working as a temp some of the guys wrote a fake invoice and put on it "giving us things to laugh about and keeping up staff morale" then price column said "priceless" - I loved those people
A child told me I had a calming voice
My DH relative said I made everyone feel calm (during a stressful event)
A lady I sold to on eBay sent me a parcel some time later with a thank you card, a really lovely note and little gifts for my kids and myself. I had a little cry it was that nice.

@Johnnysgirl I don't look like a typical type 2 diabetic due to my weight. The consultants were surprised I was type 2 and assumed I was diabetic from childhood.

The general attitude towards type 2 diabetes is appalling. Especially by medical professionals who continue to tell you that it's your fault you have it. It was flattering it was assumed my body had failed me rather than I had failed it based on what I had put in it. I was just unlucky that the diabetes stayed with me after I had delivered my son.

ReindeerSkull · 07/02/2023 20:15

My tattoo artist says I'm a "bad bitch" who sits really well for tattoos. I've always thought I had pretty low tolerance for pain so that's good!

My 18 year old son's girlfriend likes me, she said she feels happy and comfortable here which is brilliant!

GiraffeLaSophie · 07/02/2023 20:16

These are lovely, thank you for sharing. I am sat here smiling reading them!

A colleague I really rate and like said I had an excellent moral compass and they would always take my advice

Youngest DC, now 18: "I know ours is the smallest house by miles, but it's the one with the best vibe for 'pres'".

Blackcountryexile · 07/02/2023 20:27

DD visited a family who had recently adopted a DC.
The parents thanked her for being so kind and helpful and said that she must have been parented very well.
I know we made plenty of mistakes and muddled our way through but I was very touched.

LaMadrilena · 07/02/2023 20:30

Such a lovely thread!

I was once told I had a "damn fine set of pins." I cling to it even though it was 20 years ago!

Also, I was once complimented on my English (ie the Spanish person I was translating for thought I was Spanish). I felt very smug.

When I had DD the midwife said I had perfect nipples for breastfeeding Smile

Weirdest one I ever had was a beautician tell me I had lovely eyebrows to work with. No idea how as they're pretty sparse due to overplucking years ago, but I'll take that 😂

Oh, I see what you're saying. I don't think type 2 is entirely self inflicted, though. It's not something fat people get.

DS (20) is a brilliant dancer. He told me ‘that’s down to you mum. Dad taught me about music but you taught me how to really enjoy it. You didn’t teach me how to dance but you taught me I should’
He feels it with every bone in his body ❤️

Tisfortired · 07/02/2023 20:34

Somebody told me that my relaxed parenting style and rarely getting frustrated had made my DS a relaxed kid.

This made me happy as I grew up in quite a fraught childhood and I often don’t feel very relaxed so I am pleased that my DC are having a more chilled upbringing than I did.

Tisfortired · 07/02/2023 20:37

Oh a colleague once told me that speaking to me was ‘like having a camomile tea’ and always calmed him down 😃

SammyScrounge · 07/02/2023 20:43

A very troublesome boy was getting a ticking off from the head teacher. The boy was never in any trouble with me and the head asked him why he was badly behaved in all his classes but could be good for Mrs Scrounge.'She's a real teacher' the boy replied.
That buoyed me up all week.

Robin233 · 07/02/2023 20:43

Lovely thread.
Work related
'I always come to you if I'm upset'
'You've got one of those faces' (compassionate)
'Robin is the only one who knows what's she's doing ' lol I wish.

Chelsea26 · 07/02/2023 20:45

These are lovely.

I met a lady at a work event in the summer and we hung out in a group together for the evening.

I saw her again recently at another event and realised we had a friend in common (who was also there) The first lady said to my friend “I absolutely love Chelsea26, she just spreads joy around her!” and my friend agreed - that was nice to hear!

dew141 · 07/02/2023 20:46

My hip surgeon referred to me as a young lady in his letter today.

I'm in my late 40s and so far from being either young (or, frankly, a lady on occasions). I also feel about 80 after my replacement but I'll take it as a compliment.

ilovepixie · 07/02/2023 20:49

The dentist told me I had long roots on my teeth!

MuthaHubbard · 07/02/2023 20:54

Consultant wrote that I had a 'surprisingly high pain threshold' after he'd had to inject steroids deep into my arm in an attempt to alleviate calcific tendonitis in my shoulder. He may have taken into account that I'd already said if it didn't work and surgery to remove the calcium pressing on my (every last) nerve wasn't an option, he could take my arm off with a rusty spoon if it meant the pain in it stopped

Outandover · 07/02/2023 20:57

DH told me that I am nothing like my ‘D’M.
It’s the biggest compliment that I’ve ever had.

Billoddiesbeard · 07/02/2023 21:13

My mum once told me that I "corner very well" when I drive 🤣 I'll take that...... as I am actually an awful driver!

Afonavon · 07/02/2023 21:13

I worked with little children many moons ago. I was often told “I love you, you can come to my party!” It made up for the fact that I felt that at the time I was doing a shit job raising my own kids (all of us undiagnosed ASD/ ADHD).

Since my kids have grown up, I am told that in fact the best of all the Mums they know.

LaughingCat · 07/02/2023 21:15

Looking after my twin 3yo nephews and 7yo niece for a week last December while my BIL/SIL were away. The night before they came back, one of the twins put his arms round my neck at bedtime and showered me with kisses, saying, “Please don’t go home tomorrow, I’m going to miss you for a HUNDRED weeks!”

It was such a cutely odd thing for such a little thing to say that I still smile now when I think about it.

I mean, he definitely hadn’t been saying that half an hour earlier while I was bodily removing him from the bath as he screamed, but it was super cute by bedtime. 😂
