Just curious to know what other people's ideal temperature is

emmathedilemma · 03/02/2023 15:43

Mine is set to:
14 overnight
20 for 2 hours in the morning
16 during the day
20 for 2 hours in the afternoon
It's currently turned up to 18 because I'm sitting at my desk with a blanket over my legs and I'm still cold! If i was doing housework or something moving it would be fine.

Baconand · 03/02/2023 15:45

Set to 19
I’d prefer it at 22 but we are low on oil!

There’s one room we use less that is at 16 just to prevent damp. Only warm that up when in use. We can change the temp for each room via an app.

FrenchandSaunders · 03/02/2023 15:46

Turned right down today as it’s quite mild in London. Later it’ll prob be on at 17/18 turned down again overnight.

TheBigWangTheory · 03/02/2023 15:48

19 during the day, but its actually switched off for large parts of the day.

People really have their heating on all night, at 18 dregrees or more, heating the whole house while they sleep? Wow. I guess that could explain a lot about people complaining about their high bills!

Spendonsend · 03/02/2023 15:48

17, down from 18 last year and 19 the year before.

jellybe · 03/02/2023 15:48

15 over night and during the day when no one is home and 18 for a few hours in the morning and evening. We are lucky that are house keeps its heat well.

Chickpea17 · 03/02/2023 15:50

Set at 19° 5-9am 2-10pm

Reluctantadult · 03/02/2023 15:50

13 at night, 17 if it's just me at home, but I'm cold! 18 or 19 if DH gets involved.

NeverHadANickname · 03/02/2023 15:51

18 through the day, 15 at night but it doesn't usually kick in overnight. I am in a t shirt all day but I work from home and have to have a minimum temperature for who I work with.

Gymtok · 03/02/2023 15:52

16 for a couple of hours in the evening, off at all other times. Hate a hot stuffy house.

Zofloraqueen27 · 03/02/2023 15:55

I have turned mine off - just wear warmer clothes. I am 73 and live alone in a small flat. I recently renegotiated estimated £95 per month down to £75 for gas and electricity. I cut back drastically, and saving on water too as minimal use of washing machine and one minute daily showers. I feel very sorry for young parents and children. I very well remember the 1970’s, three day week when power was cut off for hours at a time. It was never as bad as living conditions are for many these days. I can’t see the situation improving in the near future. I had three sons under five then.

We did not have food or warm banks in the 70’s and it is a shocking disgrace that we need them fifty years later. Shame on this uncaring Government.

Wotrewelookinat · 03/02/2023 16:10

16 during the day if we’re at home, otherwise down to 9 if we’re all out. 17 in the evening. Off at night. The age and type of home are going to be hugely relevant though.

HideTheCroissants · 03/02/2023 16:15

17.5 for an hour in the morning and again for a few hours in the evening. 15.5 for most of the day. (DH works from home and the equipment in his office makes the room warm) and 10 overnight.
We used to have it at 18 and for longer but we decided to cut back and it’s been fine.

WolfFoxHare · 03/02/2023 16:15

18 degrees. The heating is on for a couple of hours in the morning then four hours in the afternoon/evening so it drops below that during the day and at night. That’s fine for me to work from home wearing a few layers and with a hot water bottle during the day in this weather. When it was really cold I had it on longer but at 15-16°. We never have it on at night.

KangarooKenny · 03/02/2023 16:16

I have it on 17 or less, DH 18 or more.

Whyisitsososohard · 03/02/2023 16:22

I'm surprised people would be maintaining at say 19 to 22 all day. Or is that the temp for when the heating is on? We have recently moved house and unfortunately no longer have a smart thermostat. So we have the heating off and then turn it on at say 22 for a bit on an evening then poss a morning if it's very cold.

But it would cost a fortunate to maintain at 19 all the time.

Comefromaway · 03/02/2023 16:24

Mine is set at 19 during daytime hours when the house is occupied. It’s set at 14 overnight and when unoccupied.

Spotsstripes · 03/02/2023 16:24

19 degrees last year it would have been 21 degrees.
I'm physically disabled so can't move around much to get warm and have two dc that have medical issues affected be cold weather and so don't feel I can make it any colder. I dont have the heating on in the day when the children are at school.

QuestionableMouse · 03/02/2023 16:26

Mine is at 16 currently but I'm going to bump it up to 19 because I'm going in the shower and the bathroom is usually chilly.

NewBootsAndRanty · 03/02/2023 16:27

My boiler isn't constantly firing while my thermostat is set to 21 if that's what you mean? It goes off when it hits 21 and then comes on again when the temp around the thermostat drops below 21.

beguilingeyes · 03/02/2023 16:28

18 during the day, off at night. In a previous life I would have it on at 21-23 all day without even thinking about it.

We have invested in fleece bedding. It sounded disgusting, but it's soooo warm and snuggly.

Preseli · 03/02/2023 16:28

Ideal is around 15.5 as it's ideal for either sitting with a blanket or moving round the house without getting hot and bothered

We have it off though and our house usually sits at about 13/14 and only stick heating on if it hits 12

Due our first baby in a couple of weeks so I think I might have to look up how eskimos raise kids for some good tips 😂

PanettoneMoly · 03/02/2023 16:44

12 when it’s “off” (most of the day and overnight). 19 between 6-8am, and 5:30-8:30pm.

WaddleAway · 03/02/2023 16:46

18 in the day. 16 at night.

userno777 · 03/02/2023 16:48

22-23 during day. Off at 9.30pm. Bedroom never heated (window open for sleeping)
