That’s so depressing and frightening @Fordian

I think we'll be going back to a more authentic way of living, like we did after the Romans left 🤔 living in wattle and daub huts, sleeping next to animals to keep warm, pulling our own teeth out and living on turnips whilst the rich folks demand we hand over any produce we've grown and taking our daughters off us.

I expect it will be a learning experience and character building.

This made me laugh so much 😁

Fordian · 07/02/2023 17:53

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/02/2023 16:04

I hear you @Fordian, the phrase Not work ready is increasingly common usage in our hospitals.

The NHS should face up to this reality.

New overseas recruits ought to be assessed and, if necessary, trained up in weaker areas, like language skills, cultural things (both local indigenous culture and NHS culture). All parties would benefit.

But fear of this being considered racist, plus the cost- means this won't happen.

Yeah this is why i said to pp ..... We need to open up EU workers once again for the NHS, visa and health insurance free and no limits on right to stay or bringing in family.

We do not have the people in the UK to fill these vacancies or numbers to train and for all the rubbish about a points based system... its not working, how many skilled developed countries HCPs will chose to come here to work in a shitty NHS, poor education for the children, low wages/hi cost of living, poor weather AND be changed a small fortune for the privilege?

Politically this is all very difficult because it would be an admission that brexit (and the NHS) is failing.

One of the worst "second-order" effects of brexit is that to be in government now you must be prepared to say that brexit is a success (and either to believe it and be an idiot, or not believe it and be a liar). Stripping out the competent members of the Conservative Party and replacing them with liars and idiots explains a lot about why things have gone so badly wrong, on top of the direct effects of leaving the EU.

LexMitior · 07/02/2023 19:01

I think you can see small signs that the Conservative Party is slightly less high on its own supply recently.

There is increasing criticism from senior Tories about Johnson and Truss. I think that is going to carry on institutionally to marginalize them further and put them in the clown box. Truly, this mess is Johnson's fault, and they are just beginning to see that the moderate ground they need does not like him. I know there will be lots of Nadine Dorries style fansters but you do not win elections by appealing to them.

Arrrrrrragghhh · 07/02/2023 21:45

@LauraNicolaides I don’t think “failing” in policy now matters long term. The EU was a long journey from a small trading community to 28 members deciding anything and everything. Brexit will similarly also involve over time.
I think longer stay workers visas are already on the cards and student programmes.

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2023 21:58

Brexit will similarly also involve over time

What do you mean with this?

juggleit · 08/02/2023 05:55

Brexit has opened a gateway of potential opportunity and it will be up to Government to decide how to proceed through it..

What opportunities are there for the Govt of the day to navigate in to?

I hear this a lot but no one seems to be able to say what these are.

AnuSTart · 08/02/2023 07:39

I live in Europe and in 2023 our child benefit payments have gone up to 250 euros a month per child (plus 420 single parent benefit if you're single - per child!was watching a documentary where someone was saying that this is because we no longer have to pay extra for the UK. So that's a benefit!

juggleit · 08/02/2023 05:55

This is nebulous, illusory, dishonest bollocks.

We have got the most brexity government we are ever likely to have. They've spent six years since the referendum saying nebulous dishonest things like your post. They have not come up with a single "opportunity". It would have been nice if they actually knew what the "opportunities" were before the referendum. You would expect that people with such a clear and radical vision would have had a vigorous programme to implement. Like the dog who chases the car and catches it they have no idea what to do next, because there is nothing useful to be done. Like something from George Orwell, Rees-Mogg was appointed "Brexit Opportunities Minister". He had to resort to asking readers of the Sun for ideas. Between them all, these buccaneering brexit experts produced a list which is most remarkable by the fact that it showed Rees-Moggs lacks all capacity for embarrassment.

There are no opportunities!

frozendaisy · 08/02/2023 07:59

At least people have to stop blaming the EU for everything now.

That's a Brexit bonus.

We still need immigration so are recruiting further afield. So it's quite entertaining if people thought everyone would now be a British rose are having to face more immigration from in their opinions "worse" countries than our neighbours.

It's quite nice the EU can move forward now without whinging Brits sulking.

There are quite a few Brexit benefits but none for the UK general population.

But some of us knew that erm turkeys Christmas, the others would not be told.

MotherofPearl · 08/02/2023 10:33

One benefit is that eventually Britain will be forced to beg the EU to allow us to rejoin. We will finally be stripped of our delusions and massively overblown sense of entitlement. And if we are lucky enough to be allowed to rejoin, it won't be on the same terms as before. Perhaps we will have to accept things like the Euro, or being part of the Schengen zone.

I for one can't wait!

jgw1 · 08/02/2023 11:27

One of the greatest benefits of Brexit has been that Brexit has proved that Brexit is a bad idea.

LexMitior · 08/02/2023 11:56

Yes we are crap on our terms.

Boris Johnson's "Global Britain" policy is to be mothballed this week.

Will they store it with the useless PPE and Boris' 40 imaginary hospitals?

NewPanDrawer · 08/02/2023 12:55

It's humiliating failure has caused (most of) the brexit bores to shut up and/or to deny that they ever thought it was a good idea.

Even the ones who still pay lip service don't actually want brexit mentioned or discussed.

Yes, I think this is truly the only real benefit.

I do kind of enjoy the ones who pop up to post something and then get all offended if one tries to engage them in discussion as though this were a discussion board.

Are you describing Brussels by any chance 😂

who had a clear and Radical vision of Brexit in the UK government?

who had a clear and Radical vision of a United Europe?

How has Brexit really effected you personally? I’m genuinely interested to know.

I think that’s whats called buying your votes. Most obvious one in the book.
