I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

@tulips27 That's a bugger, they're really good with personal care offers. I used to divide shopping between Ocado and Waitrose but the depot from which I used to receive the Order from Waitrose has limited stock -plus they are more expensive.

AngelsandAliens · 04/02/2023 10:44

Chappie food when I last bought it used to be about £4.00/£4.20 , now look at it , £7.75! - complete joke.

Also the Bueno eggs I had yesterday , they were ok , bars are better and the hippos.

Everything in "Next", crazy prices lately!

Read recently we export over 60% of our lamb. That might be why. Can't fathom how New Zealand lamb is cheaper than our Welsh lamb though. Morrisons is the cheapest place for lamb or was

I've never understood why we import lamb from the other side of the world when we already produce more than we can consume ourselves. Do the Kiwis also import Welsh lamb?! Surely things like this have to be the environmental elephants in the room?

Just wondering about 'left-wing fascists, isn't that a contradiction in terms?

Maybe the word itself needs to be replaced for the sake of semantics, but a 'liberal' kind of fascism is exactly what we're seeing nowadays. Many, many people who would identify as very liberal and left-wing are all about 'tolerance' - but only accepting people who tolerate their opinions and neo 'facts'.

Anybody who disagrees with them is ironically painted as the 'fascist', even if they just hold a relatively mainstream/traditional opinion that happens not to align with theirs.

24 box of dog food has gone from £13.90 to £20.50 but I have to stick with this brand because it's the only one my dog isn't allergic to! All dog food/treat items have gone up. Even the dog groomer has had to raise their prices.

Yep tell me about it, I’m trying to upload the menu to show you but it has their logo throughout the online menu so it’s a big outing but yeah you get that’s it’s a mental price too 😱 A pub down the road has steak and sauce for that price 😆 it’s a bit more of a shit hole but I don’t want to pay extra for fancy carpet!

At least Dick Turpin wore a mask….

😂😂😂😂

Welshdraig · 04/02/2023 12:02

Pencil cases are pricey for what they are, just bog standard and around £8.00, and postage stamps. Bought two 1st class stamps today for £1.90. Apart from that, pretty much everything!

BallroomBitch · 04/02/2023 15:19

I fancied making a stew, suet for the dumplings in Tesco today, £3.00!!!!!!!!!! It used to cost about 70p not that long ago, unbelievable!!

ALDIs dumpling mix is 65p, you only need to add water and it’s lovely. Makes 8.

Lurpack butter. £3.79. Kerrygold £2.39. Could I taste the difference? Nope.

VickyEadieofThigh · 04/02/2023 16:28

Over £40 for ONE tablet for my dog's skin complaint.

Someone mentioned yoghurt. For some years I've had Total Fage Greek yoghurt for my breakfast. In the past few months, not only has the price for the 500g tub gone up from around £2.25 to at least £2.75 (they're £3.60 at the Co-op now) and often £3 at Tesco, Morrisons etc, they've slyly taken 50g out of the tub so you're getting less, too!

Same goes for the 1000g tubs - price up markedly, 50g less in the tub.

@justdoingmyduty
I've really noticed the dog food price increases . 12 tins used to be around £5 now £8.50 at least , mixer was £8 now £10 .
I'd starve before they go hungry.

Noname63 · 04/02/2023 17:23

£3 for a packet of suet in Tesco.

£2.20 for 6 small brown bread rolls in M&S. (Similar purchased in Tesco for 49p)!!

Roselilly36 · 04/02/2023 19:02

Yep I saw £3 for suet in Tesco today, and lots other ridiculous prices. Our shopping bill has gone down, we are using multiple supermarkets now, as we are refusing to buy items at hugely inflated prices.

TortolaParadise · 04/02/2023 20:25

medical prescription nearly £10
🤔

Try Aldi's "lurpack". it is really good and about £2,35

I thought they processed cheap/value chicken in a different way eg injecting it with water so it artificially plumps it up. Would be interested to know which is right.

I thought I would try the TGI Fridays range at Iceland (we love the restaurant) but found it was absolutely disgusting and bore no resemblance whatsoever to actual TGI Fridays.

When I had a holiday job in a juice factory, there was one huge tank with 5 feeds, Sainsbury, Tesco, Safeway (it was 1992) M&S and an own brand. The one with more water was Happy Shopper and made separately.

Pre payment cards often work out cheaper
You can backdate them too and get the money back from the pharmacy (well my pharmacy does anyway!)
Before I got free prescriptions I would do this, you can even pay it on your phone before you get the prescription there and then

BallroomBitch · 04/02/2023 22:14

Thank you @Marmite27, we do usually shop in Aldi or Asda, but I had to take my son to collect his glasses from Vision Express at Tesco. My partner has had food poisoning today, so I did a quick shop there for essentials/dinner tonight. Didn't want to leave him for hours alone unwell. We have loads of roadworks etc in our local area, and were already out for longer than planned, I just couldn't believe it!! Mad prices!!

kateandme · 04/02/2023 22:50

a woman was crying in lidl was crying at the til beasue she could only get half the dog food she usually gets for the price. she said how will my dog survive on half the food. it was horrible. she suddenly stopped, grabbed half her OWN shopping and put it aside saying she would half her own food for the dog. "the dog wont understand or surivive why it gets half its food.at least i will" it was one of the worst and saddes things ive seen

justasking111 · 04/02/2023 23:01

You know what makes me suspect price fixing, the rounding up in £'s. So cat food now £7, dog food £12. Bottle of wine £4.99 now £7 Where are the odd pennies? Can the buyers no longer work out % .

Earl grey tea this week, two boxes of 50 tea bags cheaper than one box of 100 tea bags. There's little competition at the moment.

justasking111 · 04/02/2023 23:17

Heinz tomato ketchup large bottle Aldi and Tesco exactly the same price

Aldi and Tesco identical price for heinz soup

Heinz beanz Aldi and Tesco identical prices.

There was a war with heinz and supermarkets a while ago. I guess heinz won. They're only supplying the industry at RRP prices they're setting.

That's illegal surely?

Chickdaft · 05/02/2023 00:07

Makes me so sad to read of pet owners not being able to buy food as per above thread. Surely there must be a way to feed pets cheaper if we think about it as so many struggling family’s have beloved pets. Ideas? Hard enough for families but to give up or potentially starve a pet struggling to keep them must also be so hard. Ideas?

Chickdaft · 05/02/2023 00:12

My idea would be frozen chicken mixed with lots of carrots if cheap, then loads of boiled rice and cooked in batches and refrozen Maybe some cheap greens added? It’s horrible to think of ppl having to lose a family pet due to feeding them. 😥

Imtryingnottobother · 05/02/2023 01:20

I believe there are food banks for pets springing up, so maybe direct people struggling to them.
