What's happening in your house tomorrow with the the teacher strikes?

It seems the strikes are affecting all of us in different ways as not every school will be closed. Dd8's teacher is striking but ds6's is not (same school). Ive decided to keep ds off as he has sen and will ruin everyone's day if he has to go in but his sister doesn't. We're off to soft play tomorrow. I've had to juggle all my clients around to fit them in during the week. How is everyone else coping?

KS2 DD in school. I'm not in because I'm supply and the school I'm in on long term supply are collapsing KS4 classes. KS3 aren't in.
So ,I'll be steam cleaning the big bathroom and catching up with laundry.

Ifulikepinacoladas · 31/01/2023 18:25

DS14 will stay in bed, as I'm working. He has declared that he won't be doing any of the work set as the teachers are striking 'cos they want more pay and don't want to teach'. Coming from a family with several teachers in it he should know better 🙄...He will obviously do any work set, then either go to the gym or play on PS4.

BlueSoul · 31/01/2023 18:26

Normal day for DS thank goodness.

Most classes are closed in DS's school, except for his and a couple of younger classes in years below. The assistant teacher will be having them, as their 'main' teacher is part of the union.

Surprisingly, DS isn't bothered that other kids are off, but I did explain what the strikes were about so he might see it less of a holiday thing.

soboredtonight · 31/01/2023 18:27

I'm away tomorrow till Thursday with work so DH is working from home with our dd.

Soubriquet · 31/01/2023 18:27

Nothing. Kids are going to school as normal (yay)

JuneOsborne · 31/01/2023 18:28

Wfh. Luckily she's old enough to entertain herself and her big teenage sister will be home, so they'll do something together.

MajorCarolDanvers · 31/01/2023 18:31

Our schools aren't striking tomorrow (Scotland) but on the 3 strike days we've had already my kids have had

  • a day out with GPS,
  • a day on devices
  • a day out with friends.

I think we've got 4 strike days in February but the primaries and secondaries are now striking on different days for max disruption so it's the equivalent of 8 strike days for us.

PartnersInCrime · 31/01/2023 18:31

Older one will be online from home for any work set/live lessons and younger one is going in but may not have normal teachers.

TheMousePipes · 31/01/2023 18:37

I’m going to work in a school. Dd will be going to school.

shard5 · 31/01/2023 18:37

Dd's are all going in because their school is open, teachers not striking
Ds2 is home but has been given strict instructions from school to join the online lessons, if the teacher is striking there will be work set otherwise it'll be live lessons.

50:50 changeover on a Wednesday.

Ex is a TA, so picking up the DC in the morning (changeover is usually weds evening). Then I have a hospital appt and DW has a covid booster. Such fun! Confused

Mylobsterteapot · 31/01/2023 18:40

I’m a sick and injured teacher who isn’t allowed to go on strike. I am dreading getting to work due to the train strike, but also dreading ringing in sick.

YouJustDoYou · 31/01/2023 18:40

Nothing set from school, no apology for disruption, school doesn't give a shit. But luckily I do, and can, give them home lessons.

Xtraincome · 31/01/2023 18:42

Getting up at crack of dawn to tick all 5 things off my list. Meeting at 9. Off to London with DDs. Work at my brothers and SILs, break for cuddles with nephew. Work in car on way back (mum driving).

Tulipvase · 31/01/2023 18:42

Secondary age children all staying home, husband off sick and I’ll be going to work as TA. Only a small amount of staff striking at our school.

autumnboys · 31/01/2023 18:46

I am school support staff, so need to go in.

a friend is kindly taking my youngest out with hers. Ds2 will go into college late as one of his lecturers is striking.

Totally in support of what the teachers are doing.

Stellaris22 · 31/01/2023 18:47

Doing the set work and then going into the city to support the strike. And taking DD for a haircut.

4thonthe4th · 31/01/2023 18:50

Normal day here: my 3 DC are all in as usual.

Tunnocks2022 · 31/01/2023 18:50

Y6 DD is off to school as usual. I will WFH. Y9 DS (adhd) plans a massive lie in and a day of baking. He has been set lots of work but won’t do any of it.

Sirzy · 31/01/2023 18:50

Going to support local picket lines and then off to a museum for a bit hopefully

RobinRobinMouse · 31/01/2023 18:51

Sadly none around here appear to be closing i think, despite Union protection, many are concerned about how they will be viewed by management etc. It's disappointing as I believe they are needed in the interests of all children.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 31/01/2023 18:54

Our school has admitted they cannot manage to open for anyone except vulnerable children. I've declined their invitation to dd as DH is off tomorrow.

hryllilegur · 31/01/2023 18:54

DS2 is off school. But he’s 13. He’ll annoy me by using the internet to play FIFA with his friends for much of the day. I will be ignoring him and getting on with work.

BeyondReleaseTheKraken · 31/01/2023 18:56

DS2 is home ed, so technically I'm also striking
