What's happening in your house tomorrow with the the teacher strikes?

It seems the strikes are affecting all of us in different ways as not every school will be closed. Dd8's teacher is striking but ds6's is not (same school). Ive decided to keep ds off as he has sen and will ruin everyone's day if he has to go in but his sister doesn't. We're off to soft play tomorrow. I've had to juggle all my clients around to fit them in during the week. How is everyone else coping?

Exactly @Spiderplantation Online learning won’t happen here either.

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 31/01/2023 20:15

Child 1 is still attending school. Child 2 gets to go swimming and then accompany me to do various errands. Depending on time we make bake.

Dejavu23 · 31/01/2023 20:16

I’ve got one child in and one child off (different schools.)

All three kids at home. DH and I both working.

Kids will be left to their own devices mostly. Only the secondary age kids have been given homework.

onemouseplace · 31/01/2023 20:19

DC1 at school (indie secondary and not striking). DC2 home and has work set - it's actually useful stuff as he has a couple of tests next week so I'll get him to do a morning of work, then he can sack off the rest of the day. DC3 home and no work set (primary) so we're off to soft play.

sanityisamyth · 31/01/2023 20:21

DS(9) will have a haircut, then I've got 2 Zoom meetings for uni, then to the stables to ride his pony.

MrsMurphyIWish · 31/01/2023 20:25

Taking DS to school (class teacher not on strike) and then will be taking DD along to my picket line.

YourUserNameMustBeAtLeast3Characters · 31/01/2023 20:25

Both DC will be at home, with a bit of online work, but mostly they’ll be (loudly) playing online with their friends. I have to work from home anyway because of the train strike.

I’ll mostly be getting flashbacks of 2020/2021 and wondering how i managed months of it.

DomPom47 · 31/01/2023 20:26

Taking my kids into town to support the teachers with their protest and show support. Will make it a learning experience for them.

Sussexlass84 · 31/01/2023 20:26

School have sent online learning and I'm getting flashbacks to 2020...so we'll be taking the dog for an extra big walk then home for some reading and baking cupcakes!

LaraReign · 31/01/2023 20:27

@YouJustDoYou why on earth should the school apologise? It's completely out of schools hands.

Oblomov22 · 31/01/2023 20:29

Ds2 school as normal. He's peeved as most of the other local schools aren't in.

Beezknees · 31/01/2023 20:30

I'll be working from home. DS is almost 15 so plenty capable of getting on himself. There is no work set but he will do some independent study.

Monkeybutt1 · 31/01/2023 20:31

I've booked the day off work and taking DS who is 10 to the local Wildlife park for a few hours

Spiderplantation · 31/01/2023 20:35

Exactly, this. Such an opportunity to learn such important skills for citizenship.

WaddleAway · 31/01/2023 20:36

No teachers are striking at our school, so a normal day.

StillWantingADog · 31/01/2023 20:38

My kids school is open to their years so work as usual

totally support the strikes, obviously

Spiderplantation · 31/01/2023 20:38

MockneyReject · 31/01/2023 19:52

DS (12) has been set work, but won't be doing it. He has been instructed to attend online/zoom lessons, as well as other set work, but will have to come to work with me, instead.

Weekends and school holidays, he has to stay home alone, so I do reduced hours. But it was only confirmed late, yesterday, so not enough notice for me to change my hours.

I will challenge any detentions he gets for not attending those lessons.

I think attending the lessons would be crossing a picket line, albeit virtually, so it's important not to.

MyMachineAndMe · 31/01/2023 20:39

I'm going to support and take photos of a March near me. Dh at home, dc doing some homework and then playing out with friends.

ditherydotty · 31/01/2023 20:48

Only nursery and yr6 open tomorrow so my yr6 will go in, I'm on strike too so I'll have the day with my y3

ChesterDraws4Sale · 31/01/2023 20:48

Whole school closed (primary) including for EHCP children and key workers other than NHS. I’m having to use annual leave.

troppibambini6 · 31/01/2023 20:52

Dd17 has a mock exam
Dd12 had one online lesson
Ds9 is off
Ds8 was supposed to be in but I'm buggered if I'm sending just one in so we are going on a nice walk and I'm doing them a nature hunt.

georgarina · 31/01/2023 21:00

DS4's class is closed so we'll be going to under 5's stay and play with DD in the morning, then have a midwife appointment and DS' dad is picking him up in the afternoon. School have sent home a few work sheets/activities that they can do together. Good thing I'm on mat leave!

Rodentsrock · 31/01/2023 21:02

Currently off sick but going in tomorrow (am now in bed dreading this as I still have a temperature and hurt etc)
DDs teacher striking but I'm not, so will drop her off to her grandparents house and go to school. She would normally come to school with me, but setting alarm earlier to get her to grandparents 😫
I hope the government take all strikers seriously. I am concerned for DDs future at secondary school if there is a shortage of core subject teachers.

PollyEsther · 31/01/2023 21:08

Student teacher, refusing to go in tomorrow in solidarity (my mentor is on strike). I will probably get a bit of planning done, but only because I wasted my PPA today on procrastinating. It certainly won't take all day.

I have 2DC home and 2DC still in school. I'll spend the time once I've done my planning playing computer games and relaxing. Because mental health of educators is at rock bottom and I'm trying to avoid sinking into the abyss before I've even properly begun.
