What's happening in your house tomorrow with the the teacher strikes?

It seems the strikes are affecting all of us in different ways as not every school will be closed. Dd8's teacher is striking but ds6's is not (same school). Ive decided to keep ds off as he has sen and will ruin everyone's day if he has to go in but his sister doesn't. We're off to soft play tomorrow. I've had to juggle all my clients around to fit them in during the week. How is everyone else coping?

Y10 son will be at home tomorrow
I'm primary school support staff, so will be heading in to help run the show (again) Shades of lockdown days...

RedVanYellowVan · 31/01/2023 19:49

I'm looking after my little neighbour for a couple of hours while his mum has Teams meetings. Really looking forward to it, hoping to keep him a bit longer to be honest.

Smoky1107 · 31/01/2023 19:49

Dd will be doing a level work then out bowling with friends late afternoon. I'm wfh due to the train strikes

It’s not affecting “all of us”. It’s affecting some people who have school age children.

its supposed to inconvenience people. Or else what is the point. It’s to put pressure on employers.

FuelledbyCaffeine11 · 31/01/2023 19:51

I’m on mat leave so very fortunate. We are going to go a museum and also for lunch.

if I was working, I wfh so kids would have sorted themselves

Ariautec · 31/01/2023 19:51

Some flexibility needed. Teachers striking don't have to tell anyone that they won't be in. Keeping an eye on texts for school notice of cancelled classes tomorrow and of kids being sent home/returned home with parents.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 31/01/2023 19:52

I have a GP app, then DH & I need to get our glasses. Once back home I'll be catching up on the last few episodes of Wednesday with youngest 3 who are off school.
They are all recovering from various illnesses so a nice duvet day for us.

My oldest 2 are WFH anyway, middle two have to go to school as they are A-levels & GSCE years.

Dinner is already planned, meatballs, pasta, peas.
Bring on half term!

Notjusta · 31/01/2023 19:52

Older one at home, in theory doing work online, in reality probably snogging girlfriend.

Younger one at school as normal apparently.

MockneyReject · 31/01/2023 19:52

DS (12) has been set work, but won't be doing it. He has been instructed to attend online/zoom lessons, as well as other set work, but will have to come to work with me, instead.

Weekends and school holidays, he has to stay home alone, so I do reduced hours. But it was only confirmed late, yesterday, so not enough notice for me to change my hours.

I will challenge any detentions he gets for not attending those lessons.

Spottypaperdoll · 31/01/2023 19:54

Two primary school kids, both at home. One will be finishing off their Roman project, the other one will be practicing phonics. Fun 😅

Fully back the teachers though and I hope this proves to be worthwhile.

MeghanThyStallion · 31/01/2023 19:57

Some classes are still in but both my DC are off. I'm glad because there would have been loud sulking/gloating if it had been one in and one out.

I'm WFH. DS has work set so I'll be prodding him to do that. DD has invited half the class a few friends, so they'll be over for the afternoon and hopefully keep each other entertained and out of trouble.

Upsadiddles · 31/01/2023 19:58

DD’s primary school is closed completely but thankfully it’s fallen on my day off. I’m thinking a very lazy pyjama day since we have nothing we need to do, although we’ll need to get ready and out at some point as I also have a toddler. I’m unlikely to be as lucky with any future planned strikes so there’ll be some juggling between me, DH and grandparents I think. It’s a pain, but I support the strikes.

MintJulia · 31/01/2023 19:58

Normal day for DS, and I'll be on-boarding my new hire.

Ordinary day for us.

Inkpotlover · 31/01/2023 20:00

My DP is a teacher and striking and my DC's school is shutting. They are putting on online lessons but we're not making our DC do them out of solidarity. I'm WFH and have a packed day but I think we'll go out for lunch as a treat.

Spiderplantation · 31/01/2023 20:01

Planning to fit some home ed for year 5 dc about why the right to strike, like the right to protest, are essential components of a democracy and how these are being eroded. I hope to fit in some local history walks from David Rosenberg's Rebel Footprints, so my son sees how we have an important local history in forming democracy.

kessiebird · 31/01/2023 20:02

Large secondary closing apart from exam years and vulnerable students. DD has turned her alarm off and I'm going to sleep an extra hour as only DS needs to go to college. I'm WFH but due to my job being in education, most meetings have been cancelled.

Hoppinggreen · 31/01/2023 20:04

No strikes at DS school and DD at 6th form college where she has 50% of her lessons so Business as usual here

Noodledoodledoo · 31/01/2023 20:04

I'm not striking, not my union. I am in school delivering online live lessons to students who are staying home (secondary) similar to second lockdown process. My own primary children are both in, 3 classes out of 15 are closed. Husband is on stand by if they are closed at short notice.

100% back them.

NotQuiteUsual · 31/01/2023 20:06

My school isn't closed, but most local schools are. Which means most support staff off with their own children. So we'll be short staffed and off timetable. Never fun when in a SEND school. DD1 and DS will be off, not doing the work set by teachers, because daftly you need a phone to access it and DH will need his phone all day to work. So it'll be Roblox and Netflix for them. DD2 will be in nursery and she'll be absolutely furious her older siblings are off while she isn't.

fastandthecurious1 · 31/01/2023 20:06

Lucky enough to WFH so me and my 5 year old will be together in the morning and his nana will pick him up around 11 for a few hours to let me crack on then bring him back around 3ish.

I only recent started this job without it I would if struggled and had to ask family for a full day or take the day off unpaid I imagine

tealandteal · 31/01/2023 20:09

Normal day for us, only two classes at DSs school are closed although that could change in the morning. If he can’t go in DH is off with the baby and a former teacher so they will do some form of learning.

speciall · 31/01/2023 20:11

normal day for our 3 DC's

Spiderplantation · 31/01/2023 20:11

I think the school is giving home learning, but we're not looking at it. I've explained to dc10 what a strike breaker is and that we do not behave in that way.

Legotiger · 31/01/2023 20:13

Having a nice day out. Taken leave so not being dictated to re online learning. Fully support the strike but you’re either open or shut, not shut and then trying to give work and telling parents how to spend their days.

MarshaBradyo · 31/01/2023 20:13

2 dc at school, taking youngest to meet friends at park
