Is your school shut tomorrow?

This is absolutely not intended to start another slanging match about the teachers strike - but I'm just curious to know how many of you have been told your children's schools are completely shut tomorrow? We had a note late last week to say ours had taken the decision to close entirely; but I haven't heard of this happening in any other schools, every other school in the area is (I guess) seeing how it goes tomorrow morning/has chosen to close specific classes only.

For context it's a single intake primary.

I'm just wondering if total closures are happening elsewhere?

Local high school had strikes yesterday some classes covered by other staff members and closed fully tomorrow. Local primary open for 4 random years only out of R-y6.

Coolblur · 31/01/2023 16:34

No, but it's shut today for strike action

Primary open to certain pupils---apparently 60 spaces offered (most vulnerable and/or pupil premium children), but only 49 children likely to attend tomorrow.

Secondary open only for Y11, 13 and a select number of 7s. Everyone else at home with Google classroom work.

GloomyDarkness · 31/01/2023 16:41

Secondary closed - even for Y11 - they said last week.

They're not sure if that will be the case for next dates or not yet.

It's a worry but it's also a huge worry they haven't got subject teachers for all subjects even for Y11.

Beezknees · 31/01/2023 16:41

DS's secondary only open to year 7 pupils. One of the local primaries is fully open, friend has a child there. No idea about the others, there's another secondary school and a few other primaries in the area.

Lozzybear · 31/01/2023 16:41

No, my DS’ secondary (state grammar) is to remain open. Pupils have been told to bring a book or other work to get on with as a few lessons may be affected.

Yuja · 31/01/2023 16:43

Ours is open to all year groups except 1. They are attached to a private school's education trust and I think they're supplying enough staff to keep it open. I would have liked them to have shut to support the cause properly.

Roxie99 · 31/01/2023 16:45

Year 3,4,5,6 off but some classes in some not, whole of infants off.

Lilbunnyfufu · 31/01/2023 16:45

Ds goes to a special needs primary school and they are closing the whole school. They told us last week.

DaisyCornflowerBlue · 31/01/2023 16:49

I support the teacher's strike.

Looked after children or those at risk must come in, as well as those on FSM. Year 11 are studying independently at home. All other students are getting online classes from the teachers not striking...

HumptyNumpty76 · 31/01/2023 16:49

My DS comp is closed all day for everyone.

Ostryga · 31/01/2023 16:50

DD’s primary school completely closed except for around 25 of the most vulnerable children. They’ve set online work and provided laptops for children without them.

Trinidading3 · 31/01/2023 16:50

School is closed its a primary school. Power to the people!!!! "What do we want? More pay! When do we want it? Now!"
I think the whole of the UK workforce should gone on strike for one whole week, then 👏this country will pay the true workers decent pay in line with the cost of living!! Up the workers!!

MrsMurphyIWish · 31/01/2023 16:51

I’m a striking teacher. My school closed, DD’s secondary closed and DS’ primary mainly closed however his Year group is in (one form entry).

MrsMurphyIWish · 31/01/2023 16:51

Will be taking DD picketing with me!

LimeTreeGrove · 31/01/2023 16:53

Meant to say the school is open to some vulnerable kids too. I support the strike

georgarina · 31/01/2023 16:53

Only reception shut tomorrow at DCs' primary

jennyt82 · 31/01/2023 16:54

Primary school is only closed to one year group and secondary school is open to year 10 & 11

Rainbowclimbinghigh · 31/01/2023 16:56

Primary school open tomorrow, but 'the national curriculum will not be covered by all classes'.

They've said where possible, they will use the day as an enrichment day, with art, sport and outdoor learning. My year 2 is going to have forest school in the morning and PE in the afternoon so is quite looking forward to it!

Rainbowclimbinghigh · 31/01/2023 16:58

For those primaries with some year groups shut, but others open, I wonder what the justification for keeping some years groups in/out is?

IreneJones · 31/01/2023 17:00

Years 11,12 and 13 are in. Years 7 -10 at home and there may or may not be online lessons.

I expect these are just the year groups with striking teachers?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 31/01/2023 17:01

Yes, DS's state primary in east London will be closed. I think all the schools around here will be.

Forever42 · 31/01/2023 17:03

Ours is a very big high school. We are open for years 11 and 13, EHCP and looked after children. All others have been set a full day of work inTeams.

Who is setting the work on Teams?
