Tea, which one makes a decent cup of tea easily.

Ok, we drink a good bit of tea, but lately, I can’t find one that we really like.
We used to have Ringtons Tea, possibly a Northern brand, bored with that, we’ve had various Twinnings, they are OK.
I just want a black tea really, not green or herbal

We get a good healthy tea, with good bacteria in it, but you can only buy it online now, that’s Daily Cultures, that’s good but not cheap, and not intended to be drunk all day.

I did buy Assam tea from some supermarket which was delicious sometimes, but it seems that was when combined with semi skimmed milk from our local garage, which possibly was quite sweet.

Sadly I can’t seem to replicate that any more.

Anyone got any suggestions

I'm one of the people who recommended Thompsons earlier. Just done a bit of research. Their 'Special Everyday' tea (red bag) is on offer at Morrisons atm - £1.75 for 80 bags. It has 2 Great Taste Award stars. The 'Signature' blend in gold bag (3 Great Taste Award stars), isn't on offer, £3.

Then I decided to Google 'Thompsons tea'. Oh my word! A huge range of teas online, including single and special varieties. Again, very reasonable prices and I too am going on a tea buying spree!

Don't work for them btw, just astonished to find a treat that's affordable atm.

I've also enjoyed various Fortnum and Mason teas as gifts. Always taste wonderful, but priced to match.

Coop own brand - fairtrade and a good big box

I’ve just had the Thompsons Signature blend delivered, and it tastes quite good. an improvement on my last cup of tea.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations, I really want to work through them, including the Lidl, Aldi and CoOp ones that I haven’t mentioned already.

I do think the Fortnam and Mason, might be the most fancy if I do get those ( at a later date) 🤣

I now exclusively use loose leaf tea.
It's really not any more effort than a tea bag but the waste is completely compostable (the reason why I did it) and the taste is amazing.

I use a deep infuser like this one and leaf tea from online retailers like tea pigs or suki tea. Tea pigs breakfast blend is my go to and with the large leaf you get very little detritus into the mug. You can decide for yourself how much tea to use, I use a level measuring spoon and the tea goes a long way.

I'm stunned no one has mentioned PG Tips. It's the nicest tea that comes in a bag. Tetley is decent as is Tesco Red Label. I find Yorkshire Tea a bit limp and flavourless, even when I was drinking it in Yorkshire (we always had it in the staff break room). If you're after loose leaf tea, Twinings English Breakfast is decent.

I was shocked I got so far down the list with just one mention of it too!

PG tips alllll day long!

We get Miles tea now after having it provided in a holiday cottage in Porlock. It's lovely.

That's good too -sorry about the South west bias!

Pj Tips

I was waiting for someone to say PG Tips and assuming it was a joke, but really?!

Co Op 99 Fairtrade.

I find Yorkshire tea too strong since the menopause!
