Tea, which one makes a decent cup of tea easily.

Ok, we drink a good bit of tea, but lately, I can’t find one that we really like.
We used to have Ringtons Tea, possibly a Northern brand, bored with that, we’ve had various Twinnings, they are OK.
I just want a black tea really, not green or herbal

We get a good healthy tea, with good bacteria in it, but you can only buy it online now, that’s Daily Cultures, that’s good but not cheap, and not intended to be drunk all day.

I did buy Assam tea from some supermarket which was delicious sometimes, but it seems that was when combined with semi skimmed milk from our local garage, which possibly was quite sweet.

Sadly I can’t seem to replicate that any more.

Anyone got any suggestions

Dorset tea is lovely!

AlwaysLatte · 22/01/2023 23:07

I generally prefer coffee but if I have tea I prefer Earl Grey with a slice of lemon. DH likes it too but with a splash of milk.
Or Assam, but I don't like that first thing.

FlippingColdToday · 22/01/2023 23:08

I used to like Earl Grey mixed with ordinary tea, but went off that, after a while

I’ve now bought some Thompsons, Yorkshire Gold and Twinings to try, on an online shop

Im going to see if I can see Dorset tea after this too, and then might try some loose leaf, as I have a tea strainer from an old Whittard tea pot.

Thanks for all the great ideas, I’m going to have to encourage the whole family to use these tea bags up, I’ve bought so many .

Thompsons Punjana. We're in NI though so i don't know if they sell it elsewhere

StPaulandTheBrokenBones · 22/01/2023 23:16

I like Whittard Chelsea breakfast for tea bags. Cornish Tea is good too.

For loose tea I have Fortnum & Mason Wedding Breakfast. A tin lasts for ages.

Cornelious · 22/01/2023 23:25

We're massive tea people and have tested them all- punjana (red packet) wins.

HarryBlaster · 22/01/2023 23:31

Always Twinings English Breakfast - not too strong and a lovely flavour.

FlippingColdToday · 22/01/2023 23:33

So tempted by more tea now…😂
Now I’ve bought some new bags, I’m worrying that they were a mistake as we have had them previously, except for the Thompsons ones.

I need to look for Dorset and Cornish tea, and may have to buy them on line direct, and F&M too.

I might try some loose leaf from M&S after these, as I will be able to find those, and can explore what Ocado do, as they deliver to our area luckily, and I still have a lovely long free delivery trial with them

Ive just made a cup of currently disappointing tea, possibly an Assam bag, but I’m feeling hopeful for all the new teas we are going to be trying, in the very near future.

I had a cup of lemon and hot water this morning, but have never tried lemon in my black tea, ever, instead of milk.

So many options and ideas from you all

I feel I will be trawling for advice on teapots next, but perhaps my sudden expenditure on tea bags is enough at the moment, but it’s tempting !

Yorkshire here - in Devon too!! For loyalty's sake, not having even heard of let alone seen, a Devon Tea I'd drink Dorset, but sorry, Yorkshire it is.

Especially when it's always on offer in one supermarket or other and you can a big big box and not worry about whether there's teabags in the house or not.

We do also drink proper tea in leaves, using teapots and a tea cosy. But that's different. And you can buy Cornish grown tea! Which I have, and it's for very special occasions.

Clipper tea bags are fab!

This!

Jux · 22/01/2023 23:38

And while we're on the subject, if you use wateroiled in a microwave it doesn't taste right. We tried it, well I did anyway, in the interests of economising only last week. I was not pleased. Our kettle on the hob was quicker to boil too with the exact same amount of water.

NerdyBird · 22/01/2023 23:40

We get Miles tea now after having it provided in a holiday cottage in Porlock. It's lovely.

FlippingColdToday · 22/01/2023 23:41

I don’t fancy tea out of the microwave either. My husband will reheat his like that, but ugh, it’s just not the same.

I use the kettle, which is allegedly fast boil, but doesn’t seem to be at all.

I have buyers regret on the three types of tea, I have bought this evening, and might need to remove at least one in the interests of economy

Yorkshire tea biscuit brew

inloveandmarried · 22/01/2023 23:49

Red box single cup bags in Lidl.

Best cup of tea I've had for ages.

Clipper tea

millerpie · 22/01/2023 23:52

I was a Yorkshire gold tea drinker for a very long time but have switched to Stokes though it may just be a Lincolnshire tea I don’t know if it’s available elsewhere.

Whitwhit · 22/01/2023 23:57

@FlippingColdToday
will you report back your findings please once your online shop arrives, and you have tested your teas!

ODFOx · 23/01/2023 00:02

I used to love simple old typhoo when I lived in a soft water area. Now I buy Yorkshire hard water blend, twinings assam, twinings or pukka English breakfast .
We recently went for Sunday brunch at a lovely buttery who ruined the experience by serving tea pigs every day brew: Wishy washy and very disappointing ☹️

Belladonna208 · 23/01/2023 00:09

Another vote for Yorkshire, especially Yorkshire Gold.

MeinKraft · 23/01/2023 00:25

Punjana is the only tea worth drinking.

dontgobaconmyheart · 23/01/2023 00:41

funnily enough I tried Yorkshire Tea for the first time today, nothing to do with this thread but solely based on what felt like constant recommendations I'd been seeing for a while and saw it on offer. It's ok, I'll finish it up over time but can't say I particularly loved it and was glad I only bought a very small box.

It isn't highbrow before anyone points it out, but my current favourite is the Twinings Jam on Toast tea - it has a really nice mild flavour with some sweetness. I often put a splash of coconut milk in it and that blends beautifully. I also like the Twinings Biscuit tea. I thought they both sounded vile before trying them but repeat purchase both now.

As an alternative to a 'proper' tea when I fancy something different I really like raspberry leaf tea (preferably green tea), jasmine tea, or the Whittard Silver Needle (got some for christmas and it's very pleasant. Once I've whittled some of those down I'd really like to try a rose blend.

Emmamoo89 · 23/01/2023 00:46

Yorkshire tea is the best tea

Emmamoo89 · 23/01/2023 00:47
