2021 sometime, with my colleagues for breakfast sometime after the worst, most traumatic night shift any of us had ever had. We sat and ate in pure silence for a little while until any of us had the energy to speak, and then we laughed/cried our way through breakfast. It was so needed after what we’d been through!

Not sure the man behind the counter knew quite what to make of it all, a bunch of exhausted women sobbing and giggling over a fry up, but he was very kind to us!

WetBandits · 22/01/2023 13:13

Oops, two sometimes there!

Xrays · 22/01/2023 13:13

We have quite a few dotted around us in Norfolk. Although to be fair they’re a lot less greasy spoon than the ones I remember from south london when I was younger (we used to live in London). The Norfolk ones are nice though, you can get a decent fry up with fried bread and eggs etc. I really like a traditional breakfast.

Years.

ClockingTime · 22/01/2023 13:15

Last Saturday morning for a full English.
Very nice it was too.

Kevinyoutwat · 22/01/2023 13:19

Jan 2020, when I moved from London.

Fabulous one round the corner from me. Amazing fry ups. And all the main meals were served with roast potatoes and cabbage - even lasagne. So cheap, but the food was delicious.

There are loads where I live now. It’s a very deprived town and there are wonderful little caffs all over the place offering full fry ups for 2.99 with unlimited tea. They certainly aren’t dying out round here, they are always packed.

Unfortunately for me, just after I left London I was diagnosed as coeliac so it’s a fucking minefield for me now to eat in places like that so I don’t bother!

Elphame · 22/01/2023 13:21

Start of December last year - it was the only place open!

RosesAndHellebores · 22/01/2023 13:22

Not since I worked in the City and used to pop in for a bacon sandwich at about 7.15am.

DH about once a month when I don't have time to make him a bacon sandwich.

OnePerson · 22/01/2023 13:24

Yesterday morning for a full English.

iliketartan · 22/01/2023 13:31

Last summer and it was fucking grim.

TinaYouFatLard · 22/01/2023 13:32

Probably once a week. My favourite one nearby serves bubble and squeak with a fry up. I would hate to lose a proper caff.

Thingamebobwotsit · 22/01/2023 13:45

Love a proper caff. Last time I ate in one was pre pandemic though. Loads near us didn't make it through the lockdowns.

GoldenCagedBird · 22/01/2023 13:49

I used to go twice a week when I worked- amazing bacon and egg sandwiches and doorstep ham and cheese toasties. Fresh, generous, wonderful. The Turkish owner used to do a great secret menu kebab too.

I’d take a caff over costa or the like any day. My local caff was usually empty apart from builders, but the Costa next door would be heaving with people eating £6 shite dry toasties and bland paninis.

although, you couldn’t get an ok cup of coffee in the caff…it’s only downfall

LaFemmeDamnee · 22/01/2023 13:50

DH and I have breakfast in our local caff after dropping the kids to school about once a month. It is always rammed.

Fluffy40 · 22/01/2023 13:51

A cafe in York.

had a lovely lunch there, early December

HandbagsnGladrags · 22/01/2023 13:52

I go to our local one about once a week. They do amazing lunches.

DuplicateUserName · 22/01/2023 13:56

I go for breakfast once a week.

There's 4 to choose from around here, although only 2 are really lovely.

beguilingeyes · 22/01/2023 13:57

Yesterday. We tend to go after Parkrun. There are loads near us (East London). Most are Turkish run these days rather than Italian.
For a treat now and again we go to E Pellici in Bethnal Green. Been in the same family for 100 years and is a real experience.
I wish they wouldn't all use oven chips though. They taste of disappointment.

Dartmoorcheffy · 22/01/2023 13:57

This is one of the things I do miss after moving from sw London to rural lDevon.

Ordering breakfast by it's number, mugs of tea, massive fry up to fix a hangover.

We regularly go to the cafes where we live but it's not quite the same as a good old greasy spoon on the high Street.

DuplicateUserName · 22/01/2023 13:58

When was the last time you went OP and if you're concerned, will that make you go more often?

Longwhiskers · 22/01/2023 13:58

Pre pandemic. There was one near my daughters nursery and when she was settling in and I had to disappear for an hour id go there for beans on toast and a pot of tea. Heaven!

megletthesecond · 22/01/2023 13:59

I don't think I've ever been to a greasy spoon. Being veggie and then gluten free ruins eating out.
