at what point did you decide to stop fighting the grey ?
and if you’ve already done it, gone for grey are you glad or do you regret it

I stopped colouring my hair at 59. It is so freeing and a lot cheaper. My hair colour is a silvery white and I love it. I use the John Frieda shampoo for grey hair. Have a box of the plantur shampoo for silver hair which I may try next. Would love a bit of lavender in my hair so may try that as well but would want it to wash out easily.

Try the Bleach London Pearlescent shampoo and conditioner.

Gives a very soft lavender/shimmery hue.

I'm very silvery blonde and use this on top to get the slight colour Smile

This isn't my hair but the colour is the same.

@pocketvenuss I've actually dyed it back to my original colour, hoping that that will look better as it grows out, instead of having 101 things going on...

Oddgirlout · 18/01/2023 08:01

@Eeiliethya that’s beautiful. I suppose that would only work if you didn’t go grey but went white?

@Hangonhere Your hair is beautiful!

MintyCedric · 18/01/2023 08:40

47 now and more greys have appeared over the last few years.

I'm thinking mid fifties...but will probably have it dyed light silver...maybe with something a bit funky underneath like this...

Mid thirties, I'm probably only 5-10% grey but I stopped dyeing mine 4 years ago. I don't see why I should have to because society demands it. I have the occasional wobble but DH likes my natural look (or whatever I choose to do with my hair) and it's so much easier and cheaper. And I'm not worried about putting chemicals on my head!

donttalkaboutbookclub · 18/01/2023 08:56

The cut of your hair is equally important as the colour!

YukoandHiro · 18/01/2023 09:44

@Hangonhere you look GREAT! My hair is really similar to yours. I want to embrace it but I'm only about 30 per cent grey and I don't know how to make the transition. My stylist isn't being helpful. I think I need to start over tbh

YukoandHiro · 18/01/2023 09:45

@Silverparting LOVE YOUR HAIR! Is that all natural or with colour rinses to brighten?

DinosApple · 18/01/2023 10:37

I'm 40 and haven't dyed my hair since I was a teen. I have very dark, long brown hair, and a few grays.
I never have spare cash and CBA to start a cycle of dying at the moment.

But if I went a lot more gray and was almost white I'd definitely go for some funky colours. At the moment I'd have to bleach my hair before any fun colours showed up.

DinosApple · 18/01/2023 10:38

Very rough estimate, but less than 5% gray at the moment.

QueefQueen80s · 18/01/2023 11:10

I'm naturally blonde so going by my family I will be in my 60s when it comes, I'm going to go funky colours like pinks and purples. I love the silvery blonde look too.

Another never. I have never ever seen anyone look better with grey hair.

I’m going out on a limb here but I think Donald Trump would look better just going grey. See Paul McCartney also and Tom Jones brown dye compared to no dye.

I went grey three years ago in mid 50s. I just don’t want to be heading into my 60s with the dark brown dyed hair I used to have. Naff imho.

It makes your eyes sparkle. Lovely

I am 47 and no gray hairs. My father is 73 and mainly has dark hair. His dad who is now 96 had dark hair until his eighties.

TheFTrain · 18/01/2023 13:17

I'm 48 and stopped colouring my hair a couple of years ago. I love the colour, it's partly still dark brown and partly white- grey. I've had lots of positive comments about it. There's no way I'd colour it again.

66 and still waiting for mine to change from strawberry blonde to grey

I think if you're the same as me, it'll go silver white rather than grey.

People have thought I've dyed my hair all my life, I never have.

That’s the colour I’m hoping for eventually, when the hi lift blonde has gone

@Rebel2023 (and the other poster with red hair - can't hold 2 names in my mind for long...) you infer that redheads go grey later, is that a 'thing'?

Knittingnanny2 · 18/01/2023 22:55

So at my choir tonight ( I guess age range 50-95) I scanned the room and did a secret survey….
About 50% of the women were grey or greyish.
Of the “ grey” group about 50% had well cut stylish hair and looked great. The other 50% not so
Nearly all of the women with non grey hair ( natural or not I couldn’t tell) had well cut stylish hair.
In my opinion the only noticeable difference in the “ stylishness” was the cut not the colour.
Of the women with “ wild” unstyled hair, the majority were grey.
my conclusion therefore after the short survey was it’s the cut not the colour that makes the difference.
Only my humble opinion though and I’m firmly a believer in it’s your choice.

alanabennett · 18/01/2023 23:35

I've not got grey yet but as soon as I do I'll be hitting up the colorist. I dislike grey because it's just the sign of the absence of color, but affirmatively going silver looks pretty good.

one of my school friends (a day younger than me at 46) has stopped dying her hair and it looks dreadful. She looks like she's mid 50s. Not my business of course, but no thank you!

Apparently usually more fading to strawberry blonde then to white and often later in life. Or so google tells me Grin

Isseywith3witchycats · 19/01/2023 21:51

this is what is happening with my hair was definitely more orangy red when i was young its now strawberry blonde and fading but as aunty mabel said gently fading to a silvery colour rather than dark grey, a friend of mine was red when she was young and her hair has gone arctic white and suits her

Thistlelass · 19/01/2023 23:19

I'm 65 and I have my colour done at hairdresser every 6 weeks. I won't be stopping any time soon.

msdiscerning · 25/05/2023 01:25

I'm nearly 58 and no grey hairs yet. Well not on my head at least. I have a couole wiry ones in my eyebrows that drive me nuts though.

Same. 52 not a single grey hair. All my friends are very grey. Am a bit jelous I would like some grey, I am blonde so it would just be a highlight to have a few. My hairdresser says she has never cut anyone elses hair of even over 40 let alone 50 with none. We have combed through intently trying to find one! I don’t have a single wrinkle either. Beautician and a client recently told me I looked in my 30’s. However I do struggle massively with not being able to loose weight and very overweight and I do have dark shadows under my eyes. I would take the grey hair over my weight problem since I got older any day.
