at what point did you decide to stop fighting the grey ?
and if you’ve already done it, gone for grey are you glad or do you regret it

Stopped dyeing at around 49-50.
Was sick of the money and time wasted on the upkeep.
I have a short tousled bob, it looks great.
I've had many women ( last one when I was having a bra fitted) ask me how I found it and said they were too scared to go grey!
I've never cared what anyone else thought.
Husband said " it's your hair" and wasn't bothered.
Bar one or two, everyone in my friendship group is embracing the grey.

ArianahX · 17/01/2023 09:19

My 'grey hairs' are actually bright white & frizzy so I'll keep dyeing it.

Beetlewings · 17/01/2023 09:29

Never! They can prise the L'oreal box out of my cold dead hands.

Love your hair silverparting, it suits you and I wouldn't have guessed your age!

StuckWhereIAm · 17/01/2023 10:39

During lock down, so 66. Now 69 and don't regret it. You get to an age where colouring your hair just looks "wrong", and that's where I'm at. (but I don't mind ... 😀)

My3cents1 · 17/01/2023 10:54

Thank you to all that gave me lovely comments about my hair. Much appreciated.

My3cents1 · 17/01/2023 11:02

@Silverparting. Hair is gorgeous! Can you tell us the products you use.

Notplayingball · 17/01/2023 12:14

Been going grey since late teens. I leave it natural. In my 40s. I don't care if it ages me or not. I have no interest in dying my hair.

DappledThings · 17/01/2023 12:27

Never started fighting it. Had my first greys about 26/27. Now 43 and it's maybe 20% ish grey. Never bothered me.

I think it’s sad how so many women are worried about whether they look older and what others think of them. I love seeing women with grey hair who just don’t give a s*.

I dye my hair for me...couldn't give a shit what other people think.

LitralViolins · 17/01/2023 12:52

Started going grey in late 30s. Gave up the dye mid-40s as could no longer be arsed with it, had a crop and got rid of the darker bits. 50 this year and have long silver hair that attracts lots of attention and compliments. However, I'm bored with the faff of maintaining long hair so will be having another chop this week.

I agree that grey hair needs a good cut and a good purple shampoo to look its best. You do also have to rethink makeup and clothes - I wear much brighter colours now and NEVER grey near my face!

I'm saddened by some of the ageist, misogynistic comments on this thread, though. Fair enough if you don't think it would suit you personally, but all the shit about 'no woman looks good grey', etc. No one ever says that about men and, as this thread proves, many women absolutely rock their greys!

Hangonhere · 17/01/2023 13:15

I let my hair go grey in my 30s and I am now in my 40s.

I took this photo yesterday because I was really pleased with my hair for once, the curls looked lovely. Avoiding the dreaded grey frizz is hard work 😆

I get loads of compliments on my hair from all sorts of random people, so I don't think it can be making me look old and haggard. And interestingly no-one ever complimented me on my hair when it was its original colour.

vicaragechristmas · 17/01/2023 14:09

I went grey at 26 but started dyeing it bright colours at about 35 because I got bored of being mistaken for DD's grandma 😆 (true story)

Orangebadger · 17/01/2023 16:56

Started going grey age 21, started colouring it age 26. Now 50 I'm still doing it. Will probably let it go when I'm late 50's I imagine! Not quite ready to yet!

Thank you so much, and to WolverineBlueyy too.

After a bit of trial and error, I have finally gotten to grips with the Curly/Wavy Girl Method. I now have a (fairly) simple and cost effective routine.

I have fine hair, so need shampoo. Start with Garnier Ultimate Blends, followed by their conditioner, V05 Mega Hold gel applied liberally to sopping wet hair, scrunched in. A quick squish with a microfibre towel then leave to dry naturally and scrunch out any crispy gel when dry.

My hair was frizzy and orange before.

I absolutely love your hair!!

I received a compliment today from a 20-year-old male cashier who told me he loved my hair. I was chuffed because although I'm confident in my grey, I also never received any compliments on my coloured, frizzy and damaged hair.

Buttalapasta · 17/01/2023 19:06

I am almost 50 and no grey yet. I would like to say that I will just go grey when the time comes but so far I have not aged at all in the elegant Helen Mirren way I envisaged so who knows??

pocketvenuss · 17/01/2023 19:12

daffodilandtulip · 16/01/2023 10:13

I'm 43. I stopped dying it for about six months last year because I was sick of the constant cycle. I really am very very grey and have been for years. Everyone was quite honest about how awful I looked. I gave up on New Years Eve and I'm back on the boxes.

Yeah shame. 6 months isn't anywhere long enough to get to the stage where it looks good. It just looks messy at this stage. It's not until around 2 years I think that it looks ok.

I'm 50 soon. I found my first greys at 19. Thanks to MN, I grew mine out 2 years ago and love it!

Absolutely gorgeous 😍

Another never. I have never ever seen anyone look better with grey hair.

I have, when it's done right it can look amazing. I think it's also the whole look though, like if you look trendy/funky. Don't you also think it's a perception thing too? If suddenly grey was sexy, then everyone would want to be grey? It's all just what society (underpinned by marketing) promotes?

declutteringmymind · 17/01/2023 19:53

Never. I am a very warm toned olive skin tone and it would look awful. Think of j lo or Kim Kardashian with white hair.

Calyx72 · 17/01/2023 20:00

50 and have been embracing the grey for a few months. Hate the brown / highlighted blond mid-ends and silver grey roots but I am also encouraging new curls! So I dummy want to dye any more.

Calyx72 · 17/01/2023 20:04

*don't want

Vitriolinsanity · 17/01/2023 20:05

Never. I would look like Miss Haversham.
