at what point did you decide to stop fighting the grey ?
and if you’ve already done it, gone for grey are you glad or do you regret it

About 56 after many years of colouring . I originally had very dark hair and started to go grey mid twenties. I actually really love it and my hair is in great condition now.
I don’t think it makes me look older and it suits my skin tone much better but I did have to change what colour clothes I wear and my makeup.

Probably in my late 30s (I'm 43 now)?

In saying that, my hair is naturally curly (type 3b/c - natural ringlets) and I'm not particularly grey, bar a thin Mallen streak that's just off my centre parting.

My hair is most like my late father's, who was salt and pepper by the time he died at 59, so it'll be interesting to see what it does over the next decade or so.

I like it!

I'm 32, started going grey at 15, and reached the point where a dye job didn't even last 3 weeks because the grey just kept coming through at the roots (v dark ashy brown hair naturally, so it's really obvious). I finally gave up dying it when I was 29 - I've started having grey and ash highlights run through my hair to compliment the natural grey, so that by the time I'm fully grey, it won't be much different to how it is now. I absolutely love it, but it does take some upkeep (regular toning in between appointments and once a week wash with blue shampoo). I dont think it ages me (still get ID'd at the pub!), but I do take extra care with my skin and teeth to balance it out. Think if my skin was dull and teeth stained WITH my grey hair on top, the overall effect would be ageing.

I stopped dyeing at 48 while I had very few greys, I'm slowly getting more greys, although it's still mainly around my hairline and underneath so not that noticeable.

I didn't want to have to start dyeing it every few weeks, I'm happy for it to go gradually grey rather than have to grow it out in a few years when it's fully grey.

FortyFiveFitty · 16/01/2023 13:28

Absolutely never.

I have ringletty curly hair with blond highlights and get constant comments about my hair (in shops, nights out, work) so I'm staying as I am!

Went from dyed brunette to natural white/grey in one appointment, aged 46. I get compliments regularly, I don't give a shit about whether anyone else thinks it ages me - I'm proud of my age - although I'm often surprised by just how much it triggers other people's insecurity about their own ageing process.

How did they do this bleach it then tone it with silver

I'm one of the lucky one's- I'm 54, a natural redhead, and not one single grey hair on my head!

TreesAtSea · 16/01/2023 14:04

55, after having dyed my hair for around 25 yrs. Hair originally dark brown and started going grey at 16. It's now been just over a year since I went cold turkey; only a few bits of the brown dye left on the ends. Very happy with the result: lots of different shades of grey and white, plus more of my original dark brown left than I expected. Now I don't know why I didn't do it earlier, but I think either the time is right for you as an individual or it isn't. Would never go back to colouring it.

CandleCandleCandle · 16/01/2023 14:08

I am 53 and have shiny brown hair, i Am lucky to not have many greys. The ones I do have I colour myself. I don’t think I’ll go grey and blond doesn’t suit me so grey/blond combo isn’t an option. My aunt is nearly 70 and has kept her dark hair, I think I’ll copy.

FrownedUpon · 16/01/2023 14:11

I think it’s sad how so many women are worried about whether they look older and what others think of them. I love seeing women with grey hair who just don’t give a s*.

Echobelly · 16/01/2023 14:18

I don't know - I'm 45 and no grey hairs yet. It depends how it looks, I'm quite up for leaning in and enhancing the grey rather than hiding it. My hair is a fairly boring light brown, so it won't be a great loss when it goes!

I saw a youngish guy on the tube yesterday who I think had dyed his grey hair to really metallic silver than looked great. I also have a very cool work colleague wears a grey bob beautifully

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/01/2023 14:46

I was very dark haired. Started getting grey hairs from the age of 20. Got sick and tired of obvious root regrowth in my mid 40s so went lighter with the help of my hairdresser then got just a few highlights and grew the colour out. Took the best part of a year. Best thing I could have done. I get so many compliments about it and looking at old photos my hair was obviously coloured. It also suits my skin tone perfectly now. Liberating not to have to maintain the dye. Was particularly good during lockdown when we weren't allowed to go to the hairdresser's.

InfinityOrUndefined · 16/01/2023 14:51

I am 47 and no grey hairs. I used to be blondish but now my hair is darker. I have no intention to colour my hair when it gets gray.

BigMadAdrian · 16/01/2023 15:04

I am 40 and have a few greys - I don't dye my hair and don't intend to. I don't like how dyed hair looks on most people and you can (almost) always tell. Most people suit their natural colour best. Grey is only a hair colour after all and if more younger women allowed themselves to go grey then it would cease to be associated with ageing. Men don't care (on the whole), why should we?

Motelschmotel · 16/01/2023 15:21

It’s funny to me to read all these posters saying grey is so ageing. It’s the exact opposite to me. To see a woman in her 50s/60s with solid black/brown/blonde hair on skin her actual age just makes her look even older. Somehow the “young” hair enhances the “old” skin.

The only effective way to cover grey hair imo is extremely expensive and time consuming salon dying. And, once you start that, it’s so so difficult to stop. I’m going white now in my late 40s and intend to let nature take its course. The cut is more important than the colour, to me.

CandleCandleCandle · 16/01/2023 15:25

This is my hair, i am 53 and spend £4 per month on the colour.

What age did you or will you go for grey hair ?
PledgeDusterMop · 16/01/2023 15:49

I’ve been going grey since my 20’s. Spent years trying to hide it with dyes. A few years ago when I was 49 , I shaved my head for a charity and decided to embrace the grey. I have kept it very short since . I’m now 54 and can’t imagine going back to my original dark brown hair .

Zippedydoo123 · 16/01/2023 16:19

Never. Unless my hands cannot see to it I will dye my hair until I drop.

WhatDoYouWantNow · 16/01/2023 16:23

I got my first grey hairs when I was 25. My natural colour was almost black, so I spent 37 years dyeing it almost black. It really looked too severe, so a few years ago, I applied stripper stuff to it, stripped all the colour out and went blonde. I'm now a light brown (63)

OldandTired66 · 16/01/2023 16:25

I was about 57. Turned out a beautiful silver white, never looked so good.

Isseywith3witchycats · 16/01/2023 16:59

66 and still waiting for mine to change from strawberry blonde to grey

AlwaysCountYourPennies · 16/01/2023 17:09

I don't wear makeup and my skin is looking ok. I'm 55 and have no intention of going grey yet! I'm very grey in parts and would look like a badger......

slamwich · 16/01/2023 17:13

Never for me. My mum stopped having hers dyed when she was 92 and that was only because she had dementia

Uptheclarets · 16/01/2023 17:16

I'm 42 and stopped using hair dye October 21. Haven't looked back. My hair is in such great condition, so soft and less coarse than before. Looks loads healthier. Mine has gone very 'salt and pepper' now but I have a pure white stripe around my parting - I get loads of complements. I'd just take the plunge and do it!

slamwich · 16/01/2023 17:17

My mum at 90 bless her
