I don't mind the grey which is scattered throughout my hair. But I will keep dying because I also get Grandpa Munster grey at my temples and I'll never be happy with that.

Eyesopenwideawake · 16/01/2023 11:13

I got fed up waiting to go properly grey - from mousy brown - last year (aged 58) so went platinum blond which I love!

SingingSands · 16/01/2023 11:13

I'm 43 and have never dyed my greys (natural colour is dark brown).

From a distance you'd think I had brown hair, but close up it is serious salt and pepper. I was late 20s when I noticed my first whites!

@My3cents1 you have naturally beautiful hair - your grey colour is so pretty

wonkylegs · 16/01/2023 11:14

I've never dyed my hair and although I said when I was younger I would dye it when I went grey, I suspect I wouldn't bother now.
I've got used to low maintenance hair (I get it cut twice a year, that's it), I suspect I couldn't deal with the hassle of anything more.

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 16/01/2023 11:14

I'm resisting hard at 55. I don't think grey will suit me, or I'm not ready for it yet, or both maybe!

I'm pretty sure mine isn't a lovely shade of silver, and as I have curly/frizzy hair I can just imagine myself looking wild and witch like. Not in a good way either!

TenoringBehind · 16/01/2023 11:15

51 and no grey hairs yet. Can’t be long though, and I’ll be dying it as soon as it starts.

MamaidhMathMath · 16/01/2023 11:15

My family seem to go grey very late, so there's no sign of grey hairs yet.

I wear my hair very long and very red, and its a bugger to bleach out, so when the red stops suiting my skin tone I'll probably cut it to a pixie and dye it silver.

Several of my pals have gone full grey recently and it really suits them

ohfourfoxache · 16/01/2023 11:15

I’m 39

I’m going really grey, but can’t be bothered to dye/maintain it

BeachesDiary · 16/01/2023 11:21

Never. Grey is so ageing. My sister is only 4 years older than me and is totally grey. She has been presumed to be my mother on a couple of occasions!

Knittingnanny2 · 16/01/2023 11:24

I always said not until the end of my 60’s. But I’m mid 60 now and decided I’m fed up with the 6 weekly appts. So chopped off to chin length and starting the process of transitioning from hi lift blonde to whatever is now my natural! I think unfortunately it’s going to be that horrid steel grey though so might be changing my mind!
Got an appt in a few weeks to have some grey/brown foils put in to “ smudge “ the join a bit.
If any of my little grandchildren look at me strangely or make funny comments I’ll be straight back to the dye however!

MajorCarolDanvers · 16/01/2023 11:25

I'm 48 and only have a couple of greys.

I don't plan to dye it as I think I will be comfortable with grey. Maybe I will change my mind when I get more

Berlinlover · 16/01/2023 11:26

Never, I have been dying my hair since I was 13 and will continue to.

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 16/01/2023 11:27

I’m 40 and no sign of grey. My oldest female relative for me to compare to got some greys in her 80s but only a sprinkle and died in her 90s. Nobody else has lived long enough to get greys.

NeverTooLateToSing · 16/01/2023 11:29

I'm mid-50s with dark brown hair, and just a few greys at the temples. It seems to run in the family. I have never died my hair (apart from a phase of henna rinsing decades ago!) and don't intend to start now - I'm not bothered if it makes me look older, or what other people might think of it!

Sparklefoof · 16/01/2023 11:33

49 and not a single grey yet. Really not sure what I will do when it does kick in - I think long grey hair can look stunning but it all depends on what sort of grey it goes (my mum's is a sort of wiry salt and pepper, hoping I don't inherit!), and whether it suits or not! @My3cents1 yours looks amazing!!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 16/01/2023 11:35

I'm 59 this year, I still have my highlights - I only have a thin streak of grey at the front and a few strands at the side so not much to 'grow out' - I can't see me going grey, perhaps just more blonde 🤷‍♀️

Ldnldnldn · 16/01/2023 11:35
  1. I’m about 40% grey and quite like how it’s coming in. No one has told me they hate it! But I don’t think anyone would anyway. Lots of friends admit to being as grey or more grey than me, but not ready to grow it out.

I may dye it again. I don’t know yet! Will see.

Wexone · 16/01/2023 11:38

40 this year and wont be giving up on coloring my hair. Started going grey in late 20's but it has really got worse since 35 - think it was due to stress also thoough. My grey hair is very wiry and has a life of its own. Its also like witches streaks so don't not look good. I think grey ins incredibly aging on most people. You also need to have it in good condition. My sis inlaw is only 10 years older than me, yet at a funeral recently i was asked was i her daughters many times. She has let her grey hair grow and looks like a witches head now. She put a semi in it for a wedding last year and looked fabulous with it. Took years off her

TheShellBeach · 16/01/2023 11:39

Never. Grey hair is so ageing.

Swordfishtrombone · 16/01/2023 11:42

I'm early 50s. Let my hair go grey during the pandemic. My hair's still pretty brown at the back, with light peppering. I've been dyeing my hair since my early 20s: its been platinum, dirty blonde, dark brown, red & Barbie pink. Its the longest it's been one colour since my teens 😀. I was hoping for more silver/white by now as I'm getting married this year!

IggyAce · 16/01/2023 11:42

I’m 44 stopped dying mine 3 weeks after my 40th birthday and I love my hair. It’s now in such great condition, my grey sort of frames my face and is underneath. I don’t regret it.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 16/01/2023 11:43

I seem to have the same hair as my Dad. His hair started to lighten when he was about 60 and just uniformly got lighter and lighter until it was silver by the time he was 75. I'm cool with that as it's easier than dealing with random greys sprouting here and there. I might be tempted to play around with toners, similar to Helen Mirren, for a more platinum look.

Ansjovis · 16/01/2023 11:47

I don't dye my hair as I have a sensitive scalp so my entire head would be covered in red sores. Therefore my only option is to embrace the changes. My view is that at least I have hair - I lost my hair twice as a teenager due to stress so I'm happy just to have hair and no bald patches.

hennybeans · 16/01/2023 11:47

I’m 43 and I let my hair grow out over lockdown for about a year. It’s maybe 70/30 brown/grey. But I have lots of tufts of all grey around my face. It looked awful, just washed out and older.

I think when my hair is mostly grey I might let it grow out and encourage a nice silver colour with the purple shampoos, rather than dull grey. Maybe in ten/15 years?

I have ditched the brown/ grey for blond highlights where some of the grey/brown is still visible on the roots. I think people would describe me as blond now, but funnily enough, I miss the brown hair. I feel like a different person and colours and makeup look different on me than they did before. I still have mixed feelings about the blond as I’ve always been a brunette.
