Just that, really. I am trying to save up for some big expenses (house renovations) but I am worried about blowing up the majority of my savings and starting from scratch again.

OP posts:
goodmorningsunny · 10/01/2023 15:37

Half a deposit for a decent size house.

Needmorelego · 10/01/2023 15:37

£50
Yes. Really.

fatsinglereadytomingle · 10/01/2023 15:40

Are you saving for anything in particular? If not it sounds like not a bad idea to have fun for a while at least rather than just save money.

I have enough saved for anything that might crop up but definitely would have a lot more if I had had less fun in life.

HumptyNumpty76 · 10/01/2023 15:42

£4.75.

SallyWD · 10/01/2023 15:46

Just over £3k in my personal account. In our joint savings I think we have £10-15k. However, the cost of living is so high at the moment that we keep dipping in to it!

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 10/01/2023 15:48

£1000 but that will be spent on ground rent and service charges in April

FrostyFox · 10/01/2023 15:48

Deposit and fees for the house we’re trying to buy, plus another £8.5k. Some of that is going on moving costs, furniture etc. We are continuing to save to build up an emergency fund.

Our finances were a mess for years so it’s a big deal to be able to say we’ve reached this point, albeit at a comparatively old age. I feel a bit embarrassed as so many people already have it all sorted.

MrNook · 10/01/2023 15:50

£1 that I had to deposit to open the account

Fantina · 10/01/2023 15:50

Nothing and £10k of credit card debt which I’m slowly clearing (interest free credit cards)

I used to have a few thousand but then I got a divorce.

orangegato · 10/01/2023 15:52

£13k, however boiler is on the fritz and need various plumbing, building and electrical work so not for long.

BMW6 · 10/01/2023 15:52

Around £45k

eldorado02 · 10/01/2023 15:53

About sixty grand. I recognise my good fortune everyday and feel grateful for the buffer.

Pleaseaddcaffine · 10/01/2023 15:55

3 months expenses is what my financial advisor says you need. So I keep that as a buffer and have some savings but thats for my house purchase.

FairyLightAddict · 10/01/2023 15:56

46p.

barneshome · 10/01/2023 15:56

25k

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 10/01/2023 15:57

£82. This was my help to buy Isa but I had to use it to pay something off. There wasn't that much in there though. Hoping this year there will be.

thecatsthecats · 10/01/2023 15:57

£28k, mostly due to a very fortunate belated "inheritance" (selling of a shared family property).

Just as well since I'm quitting my job to retrain.

My mum did snark at my savings when I mentioned that my husband and I had 60 months of bills money saved, but I retorted that she should be glad her daughter had the money to quit a job that had me so ill I was signed off for 7 months.

Sometimes you just have to take the attitude that money is FOR things.

iloveyankeecandle · 10/01/2023 15:58

About 10k. A third is going soon and it's making me twitchy.

SweetPetrichor · 10/01/2023 15:58

Approximately half my annual salary, give or take. Some earmarked for a new (to me) car when my old ‘09 plate becomes uneconomical to repair. The rest is just accrued cause I don’t spend money I don’t need to.

DuchessOfDisco · 10/01/2023 16:02

£212.22
i was very ill last year and ended up out of work for quite a few months. Also with a bit too much debt so my savings account was drained. However I have cleared that debt now and I’m back in work so that should rise considerably this year.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 10/01/2023 16:03

How is this thread going to help you OP?

goinback · 10/01/2023 16:04

14k, but have had to get a roof repair done, Roofer can't get same tiles so have different ones patching roof , it looks awful so may have to look at replacing them all,

MyMachineAndMe · 10/01/2023 16:05

£0.00

They're actually shutting the account as it hasn't been used in so long because I have no money to save. Happy days.

Usernamesarenoteasy · 10/01/2023 16:06

11p. Sad but true.
