How much do you have in your savings account?

Just that, really. I am trying to save up for some big expenses (house renovations) but I am worried about blowing up the majority of my savings and starting from scratch again.

Also £50 😂 but I'm debt free finally for the first time in 10 years after an abusive marriage and that will going towards spends for my first
Ever holiday !

Bugeyedowl · 10/01/2023 17:39

About £24k, from squirrelling away bits every month for years and years. But I was lucky enough to get a 6k share payout from a previous job about 15 years ago, which helped get me started. I spent half of that and then put the other half in savings to build on.

ThatsRoughBuddy · 10/01/2023 17:40

I don’t have a savings account.

I have £200 hidden away amongst my hobby stuff. I got up to £500 at one point and felt loaded!

Just over 10k

IHeartGeneHunt · 10/01/2023 17:42

33p.

Coffeetree · 10/01/2023 17:43

I really love these threads. No one talks about money in real life!

I've got exactly £1000, which is just enough to get me through a month, should I lose my job suddenly. Otherwise every spare penny is going towards the mortgage.

You mean cash? Is there a particular reason you don't want to use a bank? I'm just curious!

Just short of my annual salary. I'm making a conscious effort to save and not fritter money away on utter rubbish. I wish I'd saved properly from when I started working I'd be laughing hut sadly I lived the good life

Same here it's so comforting to know you don't have to worry

Got a Masters
Negotiated better pay
Negotiated better bonus
(I also work very very hard - way over full time)

With said bonuses, I invested in the stock market. Lucky timing or whatever, but I made quite a bit there.

I also do not spend money on crap. I am not your 'keeping up with the Jones' type - I don't own anything designer other than what I have bought on Vinted.

Nothing earth shatteringly unique - but I think you do get a bit addicted (was going to say 'invested') in saving. After a certain point, it really feels worth the effort.

Nice! Well done you!

SpaceBunInstaHun · 10/01/2023 17:46

@Usernamesarenoteasy snap! I also have a very poor 11p! If we combine it, we probably can't even buy a freddo!

SicParvisMagna · 10/01/2023 17:48

91p in my ISA.
We did open a help to save account on the gov website when hubby lost his job in late 2019 (only applicable to those receiving UC or other benefits) and have been saving £50 each into an account since then so we have just under £2k in each but those cant be touched until next Jan.
We also have a LISA each but I don't know how much we each have in ours as I've locked myself out of the account 😅It won't be any more than £500 though I don't think.

We have £6k on our credit card and no other debt so any money that came in would go towards clearing that rather than saving but I'd like to think this year or next we can start saving seriously. Preferably in an account we can't touch!

pompomdaisy · 10/01/2023 17:48

About £30k

SpanishSalsaing · 10/01/2023 17:49

To summarise the replies - imagine a range of numbers between 0 and millions. Some true, some fake.

TimeForMeToF1y · 10/01/2023 17:50

Eurydice84 · 10/01/2023 17:12

No real reason why I asked I guess, perhaps trying to get over my fear of dipping too much into my pot.

That makes no sense at all, how could knowing possibly true possibly false numbers from literal randoms help in any way?

Why not just make a list of numbers you can think?

Threebutterflies · 10/01/2023 17:52

I don’t have a savings account .

Woofappreciationday · 10/01/2023 17:52

Ive got £1k scattered about different accounts.
I am also £23k in debt through just utter bad money management and thoughtless spending.
Im trying to build our savings to £5k by July and pay £6k off the debt by July.

Womencanlift · 10/01/2023 17:52

About 75% of my annual salary. I was fortunate enough to help out a family member who hit some hard times during lockdown. Won’t see it back but I knew that when I offered

I didn’t manage to save that much myself last year due to a house move but hope to increase my savings this year

I “pay myself” on payday (ie move money to savings) and then have a reminder for the night before payday to move anything that’s left even if it’s just pennies

I know I am extremely fortunate to be in this position and it has not always been like this

Wiluli · 10/01/2023 17:53

3 k I think , but normally used for holidays so will be gone in a few months and will restart again

emotionalmotionsicknesss · 10/01/2023 17:53

About £3700. Very proud because it’s the first time I’ve had savings.

Shouldbesleeping1 · 10/01/2023 17:54

£2,500. We recently moved house and had work done. We're going to save so we've got a £20k 'float' in savings which makes us feel a bit more comfortable. Anything extra we put in our mortgage, pension or invest.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 10/01/2023 17:56

I just saw you said savings account. Mines all in current accounts.

How much do you have in savings? Are the house renovations essential repairs or more cosmetic? How did you manage to save what you currently have? Do you currently make regular deposits into a savings account so you can calculate how quickly you can get back on track?

Workyticket · 10/01/2023 17:56

Joint account: £17k that we didn't earn - left over from a 56k inheritance. The rest went in an extension and a car

Holiday savings: 4k. We put £150 each a month in on pay day

My savings: 2k. I've been moving the same £200 back and forth between my current account and savings account for about 6 months

We're spending every penny of our wages now because everything costs so much more so can't see us adding to savings for the foreseeable

JamSandle · 10/01/2023 17:57

30k but I own no assets.

BradfordGirl · 10/01/2023 17:58

£25 million. I bid to supply PPE and sent them a few pairs of gloves in the post.
