I'll have sausage roll, chips and beans please, with butterscotch tart for pudding.

And seconds of cracknell and custard.

Chips, cheese and gravy, salad cream and a buttered bap washed down with a full fat coke probably a spira from the veding machine for after 😄

Sausage chips and beans, with jam sponge and custard. Summer sports camp had a vending machine that had rib nik nails and I never had those anywhere else but there. University canteen did the triple carb threat of lasagne with chips and garlic bread and used to be able to put that away when I was 18. Portion size tolerance has shrunk considerably since I was a student!

Cheese pie, chips and beans for me.
Melting moments ("bird seed biscuits") and strawberry milkshake for afters.
DM was a school cook, so even now I'm 59, I still get to eat the cheese pie, as she makes it for us.

A lovely chip whip ! Mashed tattie, onion and melted cheese mashed through it, then under the grill for a crispy top. Cost all of 75p for utter delish!!

Mash, liver and onions (yes it was on the menu on the 70s) greens beans followed by Manchester Tart,

Mash, liver and onions

That was one of my favourites too. Still is.

Toad-in- the-hole is the only dish I really remember, particularly because it wasn't, as far as I recall, normal sausages just mixed in higgledy-piggledy, but slices of a thicker sausage set into an actual hole in the pastry! And for dessert this did little glasses of jelly with a blob of some kind of stiff cream with a jellytot on top!

I'm always disappointed by school lunches today by comparison!

We weren't allowed to leave the school site at lunchtime until sixth form. At that point I persuaded my parents to give me the dinner money and I mostly went to the shops nearby and bought a hot pork pie from the sandwich shop, a vanilla slice from the baker's and (because I was into healthy eating Grin) an apple or an orange from the greengrocer's. Nothing like a huge carb+fat hit to keep you going through the afternoon!
