I'll have sausage roll, chips and beans please, with butterscotch tart for pudding.

And seconds of cracknell and custard.

I'll have the Christmas dinner please. One slice of dry Turkey, two dry roast potatoes, one dry stuffing ball, and some rubbery veggies 😁And a rubbish Christmas cracker too, always exciting!

We used to have this insane pizza that was square shaped and super deep. I’ve never had pizza since with such fluffy dough.

We had that. It was delicious!!

Was cracknell nationwide?! I thought it was just Staffordshire!

I live too close to the school. I'm off home for cheese and pickle on white bread and a packet of salt and vinegar crisps.

Poodleporn · 09/01/2023 11:53

Never heard of cracknell, but I'll have a massive slice of cornflake tart please!

BumpyaDaisyevna · 09/01/2023 11:54

My school used to do a sort of quiche Lorraine which was objectively appalling (cardboard pastry plus weird eggy, cheese layer, far too salty and so hot it would take the roof of your mouth off) but actually possibly the best thing I have ever eaten. So I'll have that plus jelly and some ice cream in a paper roll.

Yes!!! @KnitterNat I remember something just like this - quite runny ?

One of my faves and it had chunky bits of ham in that were so salty.

catsonahottinroof · 09/01/2023 11:54

Spam fritter, mashed potato and beans at primary with probably sponge and custard for pudding.
At secondary, sausage roll, chips and gravy was the only reliable option. I loved the puddings though, different cookies, chocolate cracknell, or that cornflake tart (pastry on the bottom then syruppy cornflakes), all with different combinations of custard.

Ooh yes - was that pastry, jam then cornflakes?

🤣🤣 who came up with that one I wonder.

Rebel2023 · 09/01/2023 11:55

Cheese pie with chips and beans

And this piece of cake which nobody else seems to remember
School cake (icing and sprinkles) but then a layer of jam at the bottom and pastry

Hobbesmanc · 09/01/2023 11:55

Our primary in the seventies only had fifty odd pupils but there was a full kitchen and cooks. Leftovers went to the pigs on the farm next door. Everyone stayed for lunch. No pack lunches allowed.

I was a proper fussy eater. We sat on tables of six and the older children dished up. I remember the puddings and the salads being great. And these potato puff things that I've never seen again. Like a pomme soufflé in my memory.

Secondary was awful. If you were on a later sitting there was never anything left. Most kids went home or had packed . I was on free school meals so had no choice

It went canteen style a couple of years in and I lived off crisps and sandwiches. No drink except tap water. My 45 p token didn't cover much

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 09/01/2023 11:57

I’ll skip the mains (as those parsnips disguised as chips put me off for life!) and go straight for the Manchester tart and custard please, miss.
I’ll have 2nds/3rds/4ths too please (cos I’m a skinny 70s/80s child of course).

Not quite - cracknell is cornflakes, chocolate and golden syrup, mixed together into a solid but weirdly flexible flat mass/tart, then served (in case you were worried about the lack of calories) with whipped cream or custard 😳

LindaEllen · 09/01/2023 12:02

I will have a turkey twizzler with chips please, and a piece of tray bake cake for dessert. Thank you!

KateBalesCardi · 09/01/2023 12:03

I'd like a cheese wheel (amazing pasty type thing but shaped like a danish) chips and beans please, and a home made pizza from the morning snack shop. Hungry now Sad

AliceMcK · 09/01/2023 12:04

Omg where do I start….

Meat and Potatoe pie chips and gravy
Vegtable spring rolls - I’ve never found any as good as my old school ones
Egg salad barm
Chip Barm
Hotpot

Manchester tart in primary school, one of the dinner ladies use to make it, she lived in my street and in the holidays we use to knock on her door and she’d have some for us.
Jam sponge and pink custard
Treacle sponge and custard
Tinned fruit and custard- basically anything with custard

From the vending machines, kitkats, marathons (changed to snickers), snacks & a can of coke.

Zipps · 09/01/2023 12:05

Shepherd's pie
Cornflake tart with pink custard

ThreeRingCircus · 09/01/2023 12:27

Chicken and mushroom pie, chips and peas.

Followed by treacle sponge and custard.

Banana milkshake for my drink.

Thanks Miss!

eatdrinkandbemerry · 09/01/2023 12:33

A slice of pizza and sprinkle iced cake with pink custard

RicherThanYews · 09/01/2023 12:36

Half loaf and chips, bottle of Dr Pepper please Dave.

I'll have the same. I genuinely dream of school dinner cheese wheels. Ours were softer and fluffier than a pastry, like a sort of ultra cheesy and hot cross between a pastry and a cheese scone.

For pudding I'm hoping it's that once a year special treat of icecream (in individual cylindrical portions wrapped in paper that had to be taken off before you ate it) with hot raspberry sauce (like watered down and warmed up jam).

Phos · 09/01/2023 13:01

At primary school - Chicken pie, mash potatoes, mixed veg and gravy please and some of that sponge pudding with the jam and coconut on for pudding with custard. Pink if you have it. Thank you.

At secondary - takes one look at the hot food on offer Umm no thanks, I'll grab a chicken salad sandwich some fruit and a muffin from the snack bar.

Handbagsandgladrags81 · 09/01/2023 13:05

Chicken fricassee please, with potatoes on the other section of my tray- don't want them touching thanks!

Sponge square with custard for pudding!

No drink, I'll have some water from the copper jugs !

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 09/01/2023 13:07

Primary school: spam and chips followed by Tottenham cake (and it was just a slice of spam, plain!).
Secondary school: fish burger and chips followed by a coffee donut with a glass of strawberry milkshake.

All things I don't usually like, apart from the chips!

Cheese flan. I never tried that, I didn't like the look of it.
