@LastOfTheChristmasWine thank goodness there's something in place now. These cases are around 9 years ago now.

Yes concurrent planning or twin tracking now happens in England...not in Wales though (not sure of Scotland or NI).....so baby can go to the foster carer who knows they will then adopt the baby.

This doesn't happen enough though, and the majority of babies still go through the usual route of birth, family, foster care then long term FC or adoption 😔.

angela99999 · 26/01/2023 09:29

My DD adopted siblings who were taken from their birth mother due to neglect, drug taking ++++. They were in pretty unsatisfactory foster care for a year and then came to her. When it came to the adoption hearings a birth family member (who had also had a child removed) applied for custody which was considered, dragging everything on for almost another year. Drug tests were positive and my DD eventually adopted them. The whole thing was extremely traumatic for everybody involved.

In our case the birth family was given a great deal of consideration, including support at the start to help them to improve the care that they could give the children in order to regain custody, and several court hearings before adoption to ensure that they had a fair hearing. It's not possible to say that this happened in the case of this woman's other children, but in our experience this is what would have happened.

Seems the story has gone quiet no one seen any updates anywhere?

LastOfTheChristmasWine · 27/01/2023 17:15

I just ran a search on google news and there hasn't been a thing in the last 2 days.

Honestly, the story is wild overall; if someone came up with it as a plot for a tv show it would be dismissed as being totally unrealistic. I'm surprised the media hasn't made more of it than it actually has.

vinoandbrie · 27/01/2023 22:31

I just hope they’re indoors and warm and with hot water. Even a squat would be so much better than a tent in the depths of winter. I feel so sad for her and the baby.

Andypandy799 · 28/01/2023 15:41

How anyone can have empathy for this women is beyond me. @angela99999 is right she would have plenty of opportunity to get the baby back had she have followed the care plan.

The reason she is not working with ss is she knows that she won’t change her life to be a good mother. 🤦‍♂️ Like I’ve said before some women and men really do need sterilising.

I’ve seen this with my own eyes

At least we all agree that we hope the baby is ok.

It may be wild but this is peoples lives, not a drama.

There have been developments but they’re not in the media.

I feel the answer to her behaviour could be based on what might have happened to her in Africa investigating that cult. She changed after she came back, wasn't the same and lost contact with friends. She was possibly low on self esteem, took up with her current partner and lost her family in the process.

Such a sad demise.

I bet her low self esteem and or possibly drug use can be the answer for her actions. Just wish she was able to get help, it's the least her baby deserves.

How do you know there have been developments? You stated that as a fact?

I doubt they know. People post any old crap on the internet.

I dont know whether there has or hasnt but assumed there had been a development from the fact that the media has gone quiet.

I guess as it's involving social services perhaps we'll hear nothing further if they've been found. Surely because they asked the public to look for them they could put out they're no longer searching for them, or would they not normally do that?

Hoping it all has a good outcome anyway 🤞

LaTangerina · 28/01/2023 18:49

If they're in Ireland though they wouldn't have needed a passport to go over there. Just any form of ID. Might not even need that if they got on the boat in a bus.

LastOfTheChristmasWine · 28/01/2023 20:24

No news could mean anything - perhaps they have a good idea that they're in an area but don't want to spook them by saying they've been spotted in X area. Perhaps they've no new leads at all.

The police normally put out something when a missing person they've been looking for is found - "The missing person we were looking for, Fred Smith, has been located safe and well" or "officers looking for Fred Smith have found a body. Formal identification hasn't taken place yet, but his family has been informed".

Sometimes no news is just no news.

You don’t need a passport to go to Ireland ? Is that correct I had no idea ? Any part of Ireland ?

Definitely was last time I travelled. Pretty sure it would still be the same now? I'd be coming from the other way though. So if you travel from the south into NI & board a ferry, you just need some form of ID with your name on to match your ticket. I think if you board on a bus there are no checks though, you'll probably get your ticket checked by the bus company though.
So I'm assuming that someone from England or anywhere else in the UK can manage to get to NI without a passport? Surely you could board a national express from London that was heading to Belfast. Then board another bus in Belfast that was heading to say Dublin & included the ferry boarding?

LaTangerina · 28/01/2023 21:32

@WellWhatsThepoint if you travelled by plane you'd definitely need a passport. The ferries are another story particularly if you board on a bus. We've had family without passports come over here to us before.

ShakespearesBlister · 28/01/2023 21:43

There was a missing poster in my Drs surgery about this. I wonder if she thinks the baby will be taken away from her because he is a sex offender. The thing is all she appears to be showing is that she's not prepared to leave him in order to keep the baby regardless. Or could she be being controlled and coerced by him? It seems they first vanished last September before the baby was born. It's hard to know what is going on in their minds but there's very little chance she will be considered responsible enough to keep the baby after exposing a newborn to sub zero temperatures and a life on the streets. She must be pretty desperate to have taken this decision. The cash won't last forever and they can't remain invisible forever after all the press coverage. I doubt they would have been seen buying tents and sleeping bags of they had friends to stay with. It's hard to know how this will end but I expected them to be found long before now.

The images of them buying tents & sleeping bags was from weeks ago though. Could they be sleeping in a car or van? Hopefully not on the actual streets. I think if they were still in London they would have been spotted by now.

No way ... even on a plane?!
Seriously if that's true that would be helpful to me.
I'll read through the link tomorrow (too tired now).
Do you know offhand what other forms of ID are acceptable for flying on a plane to the UK from ROI or vice versa if you've no passport or driver licence?
It would save me having to renew 3 passports in a hurry this year 😅

liveforsummer · 28/01/2023 22:56

The airport dont require a passport but these days the airlines mostly all do.
