Bin day. Never used to think about it really. Now I’m proper obsessed with bin day and what to leave out when…

garden birds and feeding them.

it was like a switch flipped and now I’m buying high quality fat balls and ground feeding mixes….

Dh obsessed over insulation, who walks down the street, scratches on the floor, temperature in the house, tea bag supplies, his hobby, moaning comments about everything and everybody.

I'm aging before my time having to listen to him.

Faircastle · 03/01/2023 01:48

I'm feeling slightly reassured that I'm not the only one preoccupied with ventilating rooms and minimising condensation.

Autumnisclose · 03/01/2023 02:48

Stopping water pooling behind the sink on our kitchen island.

Recycling.

Keeping the shoe drawer tidy.

Noise. I am completely noise intolerant. Loud music in bars are a no no. I just can't bear it.

Autumnisclose · 03/01/2023 03:00

Muji cooking and kitchen ware displays. I could spend hours admiring the neatly stacked white plates. I don't even like cooking.

Fluffy socks.

Women’s rights and the safeguarding of children.
If you’re not angry you’re not paying attention.

Yes, that one really upsets me. Happening in plain sight, like the destruction of the NHS.

And also the state of the fucking roof on my house. It’s like whack a mole getting areas of it watertight, but butt-achingly expensive. There are days I feel slightly deranged with it.

It’s all just a bit shit.

Women's rights again. I worry so much for younger women and girls in the family and how the future might look for them. I feel so stupid when I think back to 20/30 years ago, when I naively believed women had equality.

Absolutely. We were doing so well, making real progress in the 80s and 90s, and now we’re hurtling backwards.

TattieBogle12 · 03/01/2023 03:25

Cross stitch and audio books.

🤤

Amybelle88 · 03/01/2023 03:40

Fucking piles.

KangarooKenny · 03/01/2023 06:51

I was very happy to hear a woodpecker yesterday, haven’t heard one for a couple of years where I live.
I also like to hear the owls, to know they are doing ok 🤣

FlamingoSocks · 03/01/2023 07:34

As someone said, garden birds must be the gateway obsession. It started in lockdown and now it’s my main hobby (directing DH outside with the high quality meal worm mix, I don’t actually get my own hands dirty)

My own inexplicable obsession though is how hard or soft the water is in any given location and whether it’s harder or softer than at home/how my hair and skin feels after washing in said location/limescale build up or not in said location. Poor DH knows if I turn a tap on more than 10 miles from home we will have to factor in time to have a conversation about whether or not to
instal a water softener.

BarrelOfOtters · 03/01/2023 07:48

Birds are definitely the gateway obsession.

tidy cupboards…aaah, spent the last few days organising cupboards…crap.

im starting to wonder about crockery too. My mum loved new crockery and I’m starting to wonder if we need to replace our dishwashered to death plain white crockery…

I could use the old plates as plant saucers 😍

Organising cupboards, yes !
if I’m feeling stressed I like a good throw out of junk, a good clear out of a cupboard. Makes me feel calmer !

Ginmonkeyagain · 03/01/2023 07:57

Timing washing with drier days ao I can hang the washing outside.

The humidity inside our flat. We now have a dehumidifier that shows the humidity of the room it is running in and I am obsessed with getting it under 60%.

HandbagsnGladrags · 03/01/2023 08:03

Not getting enough sleep.

How much energy we're using.

Whether the dog is getting enough exercise.

Will we run out of milk.

God my life is boring! 😂

Yes!

KangarooKenny · 03/01/2023 08:07

I would love to clear out my loft. DH won’t help. I’ve actually thought about getting a price from a removal firm to remove it all into my garage so I can slowly go through it !

sorcerersapprentice · 03/01/2023 08:07

Whether we all get our 5 a day. Constant resolutions to eat more fruit and veg

BarrelOfOtters · 03/01/2023 08:09

@sorcerersapprentice its 10 now. Soz.

Women’s rights. The current situation is terrifying and people are too scared to talk about it.

Strawberrycream1 · 03/01/2023 08:15

checking the weather forecast.
trying to declutter and organise.
writing lists of things to do, things to buy.
getting a load of washing done and dried each day - bonus if I get more than one load done!
Planning shopping trips and how to get to all the places I need to go in order (sometimes write a list of the order!)
where the toilets are?

Mentalpiece · 03/01/2023 08:15

If I can get across the road fast enough, then deciding to walk further to the crossing or traffic island instead of risking it.
That I've become an expert on incontinence pads, and should I double up if I'm going on long journeys or to unfamiliar places, just in case!
Am I going down with dementia every time I forget something.

hopsalong · 03/01/2023 08:20

Bins, absolutely. Very stressful at Christmas with the vast amounts of rubbish and day changes!

Moths. Getting rid of them, sourcing old-fashioned mothballs, fiercely monitoring things brought into the house. Getting rid of them took about eighteen months of vigilant attention. We're in zone 2 and most of our neighbours have the same problem.

picklemewalnuts · 03/01/2023 08:26

Re ambient light- my gateway to middle age obsession was actually decent lighting. I started moving near a window to read, and get the rage with inadequate dim lighting.

Sadly DH's obsession is turning things off at the wall, and switching off lights that aren't needed. We disagree about when they are needed!

DoomsdayPrep · 03/01/2023 08:55
