Has there ever been an AIBU thread where the other party have found it and responded?

Not really ATAAT but just reading a thread where the poster was renting an inherited house out to a friend for well below market value and then the friend moved out when asked to pay a higher rent.

For some reason it got me wondering if the friend found the thread, what would their response be? And subsequently got me wondering if there's ever been a thread where a poster was having a moan about another individual and that individual had found the post, realised it was about them and responded?

OP posts:

So should I not be allowed to post generic factual information about my school, then?

No! You’re the fucking head teacher!

Cuppasoupmonster · 01/01/2023 22:32

Not that I’ve seen as such, but there was one thread about a BBC program where the participants in the program angrily stormed the thread as they thought the posters were unfairly slagging them off 😬

Greyarea12 · 01/01/2023 22:32

Always wondered this aswell.

There was a thread a while back where the OP PM'd me asking for advice after i posted on their thread. The next day she messaged to say the family of the person in which she was speaking about had found the post and never messaged me after that. It felt abit like she was accusing me of knowing who this family was and 'tipping them off'. Was quite strange.

I think it’s fair for parents to rant/seek advice anonymously re school issues on here. Posting on Fb I have an issue with but I don’t understand why a head teacher would be so annoyed. Just because you don’t believe it to be factually accurate, someone’s perspective is still valid and the responsibility of the head teacher to understand and manage accordingly. Stating your own facts smugly doesn’t demonstrate good leadership imo.

OhamIreally · 01/01/2023 22:37

I read one where a woman said that cats don't stand up. Something about a cat standing by a gate and she said cats don't stand. Her sister recognised the post as being her and posted as well it was quite funny and good natured.

There was two yesterday! One about an author and the author came on the thread. And another where someone has changed their policy in on TRAs and had written an article. She posted on the thread too.

Tamarindtree · 01/01/2023 22:41

There was one about a greyhound rescue and a poster made disparaging remarks and the owner of the rescue appeared and was able to prove the poster had lied.

Fladdermus · 01/01/2023 22:44

I posted about a really upsetting communication with the National Autistic Society. They found the thread and thought it appropriate to 'put their side' which was blatantly just more of the PR manipulation which was the cause of my upset in the first place. Mumsnetters saw through it and took them to task. They didn't hang around long.

I just searched the thread stand corrected, it wasn't that the OP had cropped the photo, it was that they'd edited the photo by blacking out 'identifying info'...that info being the clear label that it was an archery club 😂

I just searched and found it...hilarious!

Oblomov22 · 01/01/2023 22:44

Can't remember that many. In theory there should be more.

Rinders · 01/01/2023 22:45

I was found out on here once and it caused a huge rupture in my family. Someone had intentionally searched all of my posts - it was obvious who I was as I was going through such a horrendous time. I received such amazing support from MNers (far more supportive than my actual family as it goes), but I ended up leaving for a good few years. The family is still pretty fractured, but that’s far more to do with us than it is to do with MN!

Absolutely. But identifying a school and making factually untrue statements (before raising them with the school) is not about viewpoints, smug or otherwise. Those things, IMO, are better dealt with through discussion, which is what I suggested.

Wasn't there one about a children's party that was spotted by the party host a few years back?

MotherOfMonkeys0 · 01/01/2023 22:49

The lemon drizzle cake PTA one from years ago. It's in classics. I don't think the person came on to the thread but had clearly read it from her actions. It was brilliant, ran for days with updates.

Pumperthepumper · 01/01/2023 22:00

That was incredibly unprofessional of you then.

So it's alright for people to tell identifiable lies then, but not for the person or place they're flagging off to respond then?

Stuff that!

Newyearnewfuckitatethecheese · 01/01/2023 22:57

I browse for entertainment reasons also in case anyone makes a thread about me! I've recognised a few OP on here but never outed them

Yes. One is an anonymous rant on a forum, and the other is confirming a school and the staff within that school. It makes the headteacher look ridiculous and petty, when it could so easily have been ignored.

Yes, I think I remember that one.

I think it was that they'd had a joint party and there was miscommunication between them, and they each thought the other was unreasonable.
It was fairly clearly both had a bit of right, both had some unreasonableness and both were exaggerating to make themselves look good. However it did start getting with people taking sides and get rather nasty.

I suspect more aren't seen because either the person posting changes enough details to make the other person think "that's like, but can't be because this is different", or is exaggerated so much that the other person won't recognise it as it's nothing like the reality.

determinedtomakethiswork · 01/01/2023 23:00

I remember a thread about a woman who took a massive container of expensive soap from a hotel room. I'm pretty certain that the owner of the hotel came on to put their case. It was only at that point that we realised how big the container was!

MeJane · 01/01/2023 23:02

I was just going to say that there are countless posts where a teacher or a dinner lady or a governor or a head just happen across the thread. Allegedly Absolutely loads of them.

Not that anonymous clearly.

If you have that much of an issue you deal with the school not take to social media.

Don't worry, it didn't happen.

Exactly. Which is why the head teacher shouldn’t then reply.
