Anyone want to add to my ever increasing list of words/terms that are just really bloody annoying?

There are many but this year I've been able to add even more:

Weaponise
Twixmas
You do you

Feel free to add yours!

'...breaks his silence'
In my mind I conflate this with 'break wind' loudly!

Jugomilk · 03/01/2023 14:02

“…springs to mind” It’s just so clunky and usually used about something very obvious rather a more distant connection but thoughtful between two things. Ie, someone without a blue badge taking up a disabled bay is often commented on “selfish springs to mind”. Of course it’s bloody obviously selfish

Crazyinlove123 · 03/01/2023 17:13

when someone refers to a child’s age in months. Fair enough under 1 and maybe up to 2 but saying 28 months? You mean they’re 2.

excelledyourself · 03/01/2023 17:53

'Love language'

DillDanding · 03/01/2023 19:04

Ooh yes ‘love language’ 🤮.

As bad as ‘date night’ 🤮

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 03/01/2023 19:11

Pop of colour.

'I'm protesting X.' Well, are you for or against? and yes, I know there's probably a linguistic reason for it. Don't tell me, I don't care.

SomeChickensAreJustTooBig · 03/01/2023 19:22

Tummy
shit
snog
reach out
gotten
kiddies
littlun
nipper
lived experience
living my best life
fallen for - what does it mean? Fallen in love, or not?
hurting I.e. “they’re hurting”

'Love language'

Oh God yes.
If I heard this I’d need to say “Fuck off” 😀

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 03/01/2023 19:25

'Having children to.' You mean having children WITH.

Mybonnielad · 03/01/2023 19:28

I hate the phrase 'educate yourself.' It's so patronizing.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 03/01/2023 19:30

Mybonnielad · 03/01/2023 19:28

I hate the phrase 'educate yourself.' It's so patronizing.

When I was on Twitter and winding up the NWO types my response to that was 'I am trying to, that's why I'm asking you.'

SomeChickensAreJustTooBig · 03/01/2023 19:45

‘We are pregnant’

LearnerCook · 03/01/2023 19:46

Any Americanisms. Eg 'can I get....' instead of may I have.. or I'd like..
Season instead of series.
Happy Holidays.
I could go on.

SomeChickensAreJustTooBig · 03/01/2023 19:49

Posh
’Smellies’ instead of scent/toiletries etc
Blower instead of telephone
quack instead of doctor
anyone discussing diarrhoea using any terms instead of ‘stomach upset’
pretty please with a cherry on top (for goodness sake. Why?)

Pearl664 · 04/01/2023 07:59

The 'front line'. I'm absolutely sick to death of hearing people talking about working on the front line.

wilddreams · 04/01/2023 08:01

@Mybonnielad I also hate 'educate yourself!' It's usually screeched by people who cannot agree to disagree and need everyone to believe what they say. I always feel like saying, 'how do you know how educated I am? You may have read a hundred books on the subject but I may have read 101 and that's why I think differently.'

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 03/01/2023 19:11

Pop of colour.

I hate that one too

SnowlayRoundabout · 04/01/2023 09:00

"Lose my shit" for getting angry. Have people who use that phrase really thought about what they are saying?

LlynTegid · 04/01/2023 09:01

"living document'

I don't recall such things being able to move about, breathe, speak etc.

SnowlayRoundabout · 04/01/2023 09:02

Nucular feels like nails scraping on glass How hard can it be to say "new" and "clear" and run them together?

Saltywalruss · 04/01/2023 09:08

"Welcoming", a new baby when you have actually given birth to it. Also, "sharing" children.

SinnerBoy · 04/01/2023 09:11

Oh, yes. I hate those, along with baby daddy.

Funnywonder · 04/01/2023 09:15

anyone discussing diarrhoea using any terms instead of ‘stomach upset’

Intrigued by this. I have a 10yo recently diagnosed with IBD. 'Stomach upset' doesn't even begin to describe his diarrhoea.
