British English also used "math" until fairly recently, linguistically speaking. Then, for some unknown reason, the S was added while in America, the original form was maintained.

I've always assumed that 'maths' is short for 'mathematics'. Hence the 's' at the end.

Following on from my post about psueudo medicalising feeling a bit off/worried, I read on a declutter page that someone seemed to diagnosed herself with 'overwhelm anxiety' presumably meaning she had let everything get on top of her and she didn't know where to start.
Does overwhelm anxiety even exist?

Agree with this! Everyone's a blinking armchair psychologist these days, diagnosing personality disorders left, right and centre. I cringe when someone calls anyone a narcissist. Fair enough to use it in the casual sense of someone being vain, but people using it in the medical/therapeutic sense is a bit embarrassing.

My 10yo's latest one is 'I'll search it up', as in 'search for it', referring to an internet search. Sometimes he corrects himself when he sees the look on my face. Other times he just likes to wind me up!!

My DC's say this as it's what their teachers say at school. Really irritates me!

Well, maybe 'dislike intensely' would be better, but 'gotten' does seem to evoke strong feelings of some kind. I've noticed because it's a word I use.

On these sort of threads people have said they hate it, that it's vile, it makes them shudder, it makes their skin crawl and somebody once said that it gives them an insight into the nature of the sort of person who uses it...
