Amazing hotel for DHs 60th. Help??

DH has no idea what he wants to do for his 60th. He loves a great boutique hotel, fabulous food, lovely scenery and walks. We can go anywhere in the UK. We live in the east of Scotland and would like to go further afield. Not Edinburgh. He works there and it wouldn't be the right vibe for his special birthday. Not London either. We are going there in May for things he booked for my 60th. His birthday is October. Any ideas?

Burgh Island, Devon. It is amazing!!

warofthemonstertrucks · 28/12/2022 19:06

The Eastbury in Sherbourne was also nice. But it's no Burgh Island!

Ditto Le Manoir but it’s ££££.

Crazy Bear ? I loved our stay there !

Really??? I stayed there and thought it was mediocre at best. The food was average, service poor and it was so so dark even with the lights on in the bedroom I couldn’t read the paper let alone out make up on!

The Black Bull in Sedbergh, lovely rooms and amazing food, between the lakes and yorkshire.

The Gilpin in the Lake District which I recommend to everyone. You can get rooms with hot tubs in the decks, there are llamas and an amazing Michelin starred restaurant. It’s fantastic!

@Robin60
It was over 10 years ago so possibly changed ? Thai food was really good and the room was fabulous.

Probably too far for you but we spent a weekend at burgh island last year with our whole family and lots of friends and it's incredible Burgh Island

New forest? This place is lovely www.limewoodhotel.co.uk

We were at The Gilpin last weekend, at the Gilpin Spice they were having problems as the head chef was apparently walking out, to be swiftly followed by other staff.
We wouldn't go there again after it being so good previously.

Mingary Castle on the Ardnamurchan peninsula is on my wish list.

Going there in April - can’t wait! Currently have an offer on…

Went to the Peat Inn for DH’s birthday few months back. Amazing! Food, rooms, service - all impeccable! Not far from St Andrews for a lovely beach walk.

CuriousMama · 28/12/2022 19:51

www.westgatemanor.co.uk/. Wensleydale so not too far? You'll feel so special here. Fantastic walks nearby. The river has little waterfalls all the way up. Food is cooked by the wife and is amazing. A famous singer was staying there last time we went. It's very out of the way.

ApolloandDaphne · 28/12/2022 19:51

@OllyBJolly we have been there several times (we live in St Andrews). It is fabulous.

Northcote manor or one of Simon Rogans places in Cartmel.

Or the Black Swan at oldstead. Great destination choices.

Or you could go to Whitby. Hire a seaside cottage. Fish and chips in the Magpie. Amazing walks.

You can stay in a suite inside Warwick castle which is such an amazing experience. You get to explore the castle alone once it's shut. You also get lots of vip extras like champagne, a private history tour, afternoon tea etc.

Yippiedoo · 28/12/2022 22:18

Have a look at The Tawny Hotel, Consall, Staffordshire. It's near to where I live, has a beautiful restaurant, amazing countryside location (and walks) a heated outdoor pool. Its not cheap but beautiful!!
