Amazing hotel for DHs 60th. Help??

DH has no idea what he wants to do for his 60th. He loves a great boutique hotel, fabulous food, lovely scenery and walks. We can go anywhere in the UK. We live in the east of Scotland and would like to go further afield. Not Edinburgh. He works there and it wouldn't be the right vibe for his special birthday. Not London either. We are going there in May for things he booked for my 60th. His birthday is October. Any ideas?

Burgh Island? Haven’t been but looks ace!

It looks utterly fabulous but it is a very long drive from where we are. Possibly worth it?

Went here for my 60th and it was fabulous. Not exactly boutique, more upmarket traditional.
Very, very nice. On the Bolton Abbey estate with brilliant walks on the doorstep.

My brother & SIL went to Cromlix House recently for a special occasion. Said it was amazing & they'd love to go back

Yeah that might be a goer. However it is very close to where we used to live.

Where though? DD1 lives in Leeds so we are fairly familiar with the area.

Scarborough, Filey, Robin Hood's Bay, Cayton. It's all just beautiful, peaceful and everyone is lovely. Loads of long walks coastal and foresty 🌳 I wish I could live here but no job opportunities for me personally x

DialSquare · 28/12/2022 18:27

Le Manoir? It's not close to where you live and has amazing food and grounds. Most of the produce is grown there too.

Another one for Chateau Rhianfa - I’m from the village it’s next to, it’s a stunning place.

or if it’s all about luxury treat-food and drink, Maison au quattre saison in Oxfordshire is very lovely too.

photo is Rhianfa.

Mingary Castle on the Ardnamurchan peninsula is on my wish list.

I just read about it the other day and would agree - it looks amazing!

There’s also the Isle of Eriska near Oban, know a few people who have gone there for significant birthdays or anniversaries.

We've booked Burgh Island for a 60th birthday in July next year. Looks fabulous

ApolloandDaphne · 28/12/2022 18:30

DH has now conceded that somewhere lovely that we can also invite our DDs to would be great. They are in London/Leeds. Lakes or Yorkshire might be the best options.

Actually yes, Le manoir aux quatre saisons is also fantastic - food is the best I've ever had

NothingButAWalkover · 28/12/2022 18:30

I second the Lake District, loads of choice. The Cranleigh Hotel is lovely, few years since I've been but they've got some amazing individual rooms.

Mykittensmittens · 28/12/2022 18:30

I mean Manior not Maison. Both my memory and my French are appalling !!

Linden Hall at Longhorsley near Morpeth ?

RNLI hotel

Stayed here last week. Lovely hotel and slightly as set at RNLI hq. Rooms look over water, plus there’s lots of lifeboats everywhere. Located in Poole.

Another vote for Devonshire Arms, more old school than flashy but very enjoyable and in Yorkshire.
