Amazing hotel for DHs 60th. Help??

DH has no idea what he wants to do for his 60th. He loves a great boutique hotel, fabulous food, lovely scenery and walks. We can go anywhere in the UK. We live in the east of Scotland and would like to go further afield. Not Edinburgh. He works there and it wouldn't be the right vibe for his special birthday. Not London either. We are going there in May for things he booked for my 60th. His birthday is October. Any ideas?

Looked at Q hotels? There's 8 or 10
I've stayed at a couple

Or how about a national trust cottage? Some are quite luxurious

Homewood hotel, about 6 miles from Bath. Book one of the proper suites with outside space.

If budget is no option I would second all those above saying Grantly hall,

Other than that we have just done Lake District at the samling which was lovely!

LittleLottle · 28/12/2022 18:37

I think I'd do lakes

I stayed in a fabulous hotel (several years ago admittedly) but the room, view, food, everything was gorgeous. The name eludes me however... I'm POSITIVE it was Something Hall, was right on the coast and was in the North East England... apologies for vagueness, but the hotel was really lovely!

Swinton Park. Amazing spa, lovely food and walks

Headunderthecovers · 28/12/2022 18:39

Lord Crewe Arms Northumberland/North Pennines is in a lovely spot and accessible from Yorkshire and London (via Kings Cross train to Durham) and good food- although I would also head to The Lakes if not peak season it's a little bit more of a journey from London.

Just seen your update about daughters too,

Rudding Park in Harrogate is fabulous and has a gorgeous spa,

Again Grantly hall but that will be a small fortune with 4 of you,

Low wood bay in lakes is also lovely we have been there last year. Lovely, as is the Samling, as suggested above.

itssquidstella · 28/12/2022 18:42

@user88362625 I run past The Samling every time I stay in Ambleside/at the YHA by Windermere - is it worth a visit?

user88362625 · 28/12/2022 18:42

** also rudding park has great golf!

Nw22 · 28/12/2022 18:43

I think the fish has gone downhill. I like the gilpin or another place in the Lake District.

Diplidocus4 · 28/12/2022 18:44

@Everydaywheniwakeup
Swinton ?

user88362625 · 28/12/2022 18:44

@itssquidstella

We only had a day and night as we were passing through but I thought it was just lovely!

Knockinaam Lodge in Dumfries and Galloway is wonderful. The food is amazing, and it is in a gorgeous location. If you sleep in the Churchill room, you are in the room Churchill used, and can have a bath in the concrete bathtub he used.

CoffeeBoy · 28/12/2022 18:45

Lodore falls hotel in the Lakes.

Money isn't really an issue. We are in a very fortunate situation finance wise. I do realise how lucky we are.

My frequent recommendation:

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 28/12/2022 18:47

Seaham hall or Carden Park

user88362625 · 28/12/2022 18:47

@ApolloandDaphne

Have a look at Grantly then, it is heavenly! And would be the ultimate treat, I believe it just won best hotel in the UK or something!

Also maybe Middleton lodge , has lovely restaurants and will have a spa from
2023!

ApolloandDaphne · 28/12/2022 18:52

We went to The Lanesborough for DHs birthday, loved it.

OP said NOT London

TashaBasha · 28/12/2022 19:01

Fawsley Hall was lovely. And Keanu Reeves was there recently.

Or The Gilpin Hotel, Lake District.
