I've tried to ignore the news but it's all over the media now and they are saying what I am fearing, ie
massive new and bigger wave of a new variant and back to square one

This, every government are careless and always act the horse has bolted.

At least if we banned flights direct/indirect people that have been in/to China, if anyhting new comes it could be better managed IMO

Would you agree with me?

It's an endemic virus now, any chance of containment is long since past.

Diseases thin the herd, and it really does need thinning, which is why the Chinese are doing this. Short term pain for long term gain. Let's stop pretending we're immortal, shall we? Death and taxes, etc etc etc.

FFFS, no! The last few years have shown clearly that bans, lockdowns and masks are counterproductive. We must never go down that route again.
We now have effective vaccinations and so Covid is no longer a serious illness. Let's just crack on with life as normal.

Most people don't get vaccines though? I've had two I think... I know some people who are eligible for boosters etc but don't think I am as a woman in 30s with no pre existing conditions

Some don't get vaccines. Why do you think it is "most people"?

walkinthewoodstoday · 29/12/2022 11:12

@SoupDragon alright, some. But still a huge chunk of the population. You have to be over 50 or have existing health conditions. If you don't meet the criteria then you don't get the booster but that's doesn't help when you work in a nursery or school when you are very likely to catch everything going.

SirMingeALot · 29/12/2022 11:17

I'd be amenable to offering boosters for under 50s who work in public facing roles but aren't currently eligible. Can understand why people might want them.

Buzzinwithbez · 29/12/2022 11:25

Why?
Have we not spent the last two years getting vaccinated, developing natural immunity through exposure, getting ourselves as healthy as we can, losing weight, eating better and exercising?

We're on a quarter of a million cases per day here according to Zoe, so it's not like we've eradicated it.

Vitriolinsanity · 29/12/2022 11:56

@Doesitmatteranyway so do I, and I really cannot get behind a ban on 🦡 either.

Now, if we could have a productive debate on the parlous shortage of Twirls I think that might help influence the Govt.

I totally agree. Those praising countries for introductions restrictions like the US must not realize it’s only a lateral flow required which can be easily faked and doesn’t sequence the virus for any variants. I can remember the same outcry for omicron variant.

The UK has changed its approach to covid - it is now an epidemic and pretty much everyone has natural immunity or immunity from the vaccine. There hasn’t been a variant that has evaded the protection from the vaccine.

I know people who question if god has been behind the pandemic. We don’t know why but your reasoning is one of many explanations.

No. It never worked in the first place.

I,m the OP, name changed.

Good post.
Some are missing the point here but thankfully the little guy in number 10 has wheeled out his minions t say they are "reviewing" the situation.
As always, too little too late,

IMO, wearing of masks in shops/transport/hospitals and care homes must be reintroudced for the winter.

As @SirMingeALot said I too feel vaccines should be offered to all ie boosters etc

Abigail69 · 29/12/2022 15:10

I'm proposing and have emailed Downing Street that all that come from or travel through china must be at least double vaccinated and then quarantined for about 10 days. This will slow down the impact on the UK.

Abigail69 · 30/12/2022 18:34

Here you go it looks as though emails from me, the group I'm with to number 10, MP's media etc are working

But as always, too little too late
