I've tried to ignore the news but it's all over the media now and they are saying what I am fearing, ie
massive new and bigger wave of a new variant and back to square one

This, every government are careless and always act the horse has bolted.

At least if we banned flights direct/indirect people that have been in/to China, if anyhting new comes it could be better managed IMO

I should have added to my pp that because of the still existing Chinese restrictions not many (if any) airlines are flying direct/non stop between UK and mainland China ATM anyway.

But how can you tell they are the coffee ones till you pop them in your mouth and bite them ?

I was listening to the radio this morning and I had the same thought.

Not so much banning but a concern that we could spring another wave without testing or quarantine etc for inbound flights.

They're in a very precarious position because of their zero covid policy and inferior vaccinations. There's nothing to suggest it's a new variant that is more likely to evade the societal immunity this country has amassed.

Honestly though, what do you think that would actually achieve? If a new variant does arise in China, it's going to come here regardless of whether people have to take a slightly more circuitous route or not.

I'm good at telling whether it's going to be a toffee or a flavoured revel from looking, but the only way to distinguish coffee and orange is by smell... and I only have about a 50% success rate there. Legislation is called for.
