Firstly three episodes in.... My heart is breaking for her. She's so beautiful, energetic, charismatic but wants a voice which she is 100 percent entitled to.
I comparing her childhood to Katie's here.. I believe Kate was raised with the intention to marry a very wealthy man & to be a supporting role. From the word go I get the impression Carol & Michael had big aspirations for their three kids.
However I think Megan was raised to be an activist & leader, she was the leading lady in her life & wanted to quite rightly be Harry's equal.... She wasn't raised to be in a supporting role.. I feel she & they have been deeply failed.

And that's bad why? Kate is a nice upper middle class girl who moves in nice upper middle class circles. She's well educated and sporty. She was never going to marry a delivery driver.

What's wrong with delivery drivers ??

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 23/12/2022 10:25

Op I absolutely hate that phrase " ideas above their station" and says more about the sayer.

Kate AND Meghan went to super super expensive private schools. Meghan grew up very privileged in LA and her dad worked with actors. It was her dream to be famous since she was a young girl. Meghan asked her friend to introduce her to Prince Harry. BOTH women are social climbers.

And yet - only one of them ever catches any flak for it 🤔i guess Kate is the right sort of social climber.

@Littlepuddytat no Kate was ridiculed in the press for years. Her mother got treated terribly.. Remember door's to manual. Parents in Marlborough disliked the Middleton's for being too neat, perfect and having new, clean sports kit & uniform...

@trashypanda I remember reading years ago in the press that Kate & Pippa were called the wisteria sisters for their ability to social climb. Pippa was apparently very choosy about her she became mates with & had a circle of aristocratic friends at Edinburgh University. Kates maternal grandmother was supposed to have had ideas above her station & neighbours used call her grandmother the dutchess.

So, idle gossip. Idle, nasty gossip. Mea girls is alive and well.

Pippa choses her friends. That’s a shocker. How dare she.

as for granny having “ideas above her station”. Wow. Working class granny should know her place and keep her head down. Know your place, woman.

Granny raised a hard working daughter, who is very successful, founded a very profitable business through her own efforts and who has a very happy family.

just imagine someone saying Doria had “ideas above her station”. they would rightly be told they were racist.

Mum was imprisoned for fraud and tried to blame dad because he was the nominal owner of the company. Mum left child to be brought up by dad from the age of 5 to her teen years. Dad admits giving daughter everything she wanted and spoilt her. Said daughter then turns her back on her father and won't even take his calls. Mum admits daughter was 'suicidal' but strangely enough did nothing about it? 🤔. Lovely family.

What? That isn't real is it?

VioletLemon · 23/12/2022 10:33

If 'full potential' means social connections with wealthy people who can be used to further your own aims.

CPL593H · 23/12/2022 10:34

I do find the fact that people believe the "scheming Middletons and bewitching Kate out to bag a prince" scenario very strange. It's all so Wolf Hall, with Kate as Anne Boleyn.

Prince William could have had his pick of the planets women for all sorts of reasons, and he was in no way under the pressure his father was when he married poor old Diana. Is it too difficult to imagine that he actually, you know, loves her? For balance, I am sure Harry loves Meghan, too.

Zuve · 23/12/2022 10:34

Megs is so boring. She is so self entitled.

Unsure33 · 23/12/2022 10:40

I really can’t believe anyone is taken in by her. She is another Amber Heard . Tells lies . Doesn’t care . Puts herself up as some kind of saviour of women so you are not allowed to criticise her . That whole thing about being thanked for her service , 70 days ? The Queen did 70 years and never moaned as much as she did .

TheRedLip · 23/12/2022 10:51

I don't think she's particularly well educated? Yes she has a degree but not in a rigourously academic subject and North Western isn't a prestigious university. If she has always been such a strong feminist then why was she happy to appear in that provocative burger commercial? Or pose in skimpy clothing on the American version of Deal Or No Deal? Or agree to so many provocative shower scenes in Suits?

If she is a strong, independent woman who is proud of her mixed heritage then why did she has plastic surgery to make her nose more Caucasian looking, and why have her hair professionally straightened? And why did she list her ethnicity as Caucasian on her Equity card?

There are several years where Doria completely disappeared and it's a mystery where she was. It's strongly hinted at on Blind Gossip and places like that, that Doria was in prison.

purpledalmation · 23/12/2022 11:12

@ancientgran Yes, it's true. Doria and Thomas were separated and he set her up in a business. I think it was a travel agency? He had nothing to do with it and she committed fraud (cooked the books somehow) When it was uncovered she tried to offload the blame onto him as the business was in his name. However the court saw through it and convicted her. Im sure she served jail time. I'll look for a link

The queen? Well her hands weren't exactly clean herself were they?

FrippEnos · 23/12/2022 11:39

Didn't Meghan's mum disappear from her life for 10 years (ish)?

Meaning that Meghan was well educated to be etc. by the father she now hates?

I have zero respect for Kate. She was raised and trained to catch a prince and pop out a few kids - no more, no less. Always perfectly groomed and trotted out for whatever occasion. Never seen her state an original thought, or her use her voice for anything that doesn't further her own prospects. She's not worked a day in her life. I've never seen anything of her displaying hard work, integrity, courage, standing up for her convictions or anything other than having babies and waving while we are supposed to be distracted by her pretty dresses and nice hair. She is not a face of a progressive and modern royal family, she's the prim and proper face of someone who is very happy with the status quo, thanks.

I didn't really have any opinion on Meghan before but as a direct comparison between the two, Meghan comes across as far more relatable, warm, independent, and willing to use her voice for things she believes in.

Fucking hell, do we really have to sink into misogyny on these these threads. It's surely possible to be a fan of Meghan without talking about Kate like this. I do remember Kate attending the Sarah Everard memorial, and I did like her for that. But really, Meghan and Kate have nothing in common apart from the (mis)fortune of marrying William + Harry.

They probably don't like each other much, they don't seem to have anything in common, but so what? How many people would choose to be friends with their in-laws?

I think years of wallowing in nasty, mindless gossip has destroyed your brain. Probably a good idea to find something better to do, you may feel happier about life.

And isn't there a Royal family section for this bollocks?

bakalava · 23/12/2022 13:38

Well, here's the thing. She knew that there were all sorts of incompatibilities and tensions building up long before the engagement was announced. She chose not to walk away knowing that these were not teething problems but actual problems. She also chose service even though the royals were strongly hinting that they should go off and she should carry on acting (on screen rather than as part of the family). A lot of thought would have gone into that suggestion.

Did she want the prince, the power, the publicity, the platform? She made these choices for a reason.

bakalava · 23/12/2022 13:46

That said, I prefer Meghan to Kate and I don't doubt that she is more interesting to converse with. I get what she did and why she did it. She is not the only woman to have gone there and it often works out for the best. 😜
I feel sorry for her that she never realized that the princes are not the pinnacle of social/material achievement. They represent an average level of high net worth in exchange for a lot of criticism, scrutiny and judgment. The fairytales do not convey that.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 23/12/2022 13:58

Baklava true about net worth and social achievement however to be able to say to Archie and lilly...this is your lineage....

That's quite a story.

Kate is doing her best. She doesn't put a foot wrong and yes the media hashed over her history as well...

But Kate is not a natural on camera or talking to people. It's not her fault but she looks totally silted and stiff.
Megan on the other hand is totally relaxed talking to people/on camera...she does extremely good speeches.
It's her profession after all!

Completely agree it always does doesn’t it.
ultimately they both benefited from parents who wanted the best for them, both benefitted from expensive educations.

equally both men benefited from parents who wanted the best for them, both benefited from expensive educations.

Yet it’s Catherine who gets the bashing for it.
if I could afford to take mine out their shitty state school and put them in a swanky private, damn right I would. Is it to marry them off, christ no - that’s quite the sick mind game. It’s like people think downton is a current documentary

That's a horrible thing to say about someone if it isn't true, poor woman. Actually it isn't nice to gossip about if it is true, everyone is entitled to move on.
